Chef/Owner Hector Ruiz welcomes you to Café Ena: A cozy intimate restaurant located in the tangletown neighborhood in south Minneapolis. Chef Ruiz pares his classic French technique and South American palate to present an exciting menu of Latin-Fusion cuisine. Begin your meal with a south american style ceviche, shrimp, fish, scallops and shrimp in a aji sauce. The many entrées include, scallops, halibut, pork tenderloin, Argentinean style steaks finished in a savory chimichurri. The wine list focuses on a wide range of varietals from Central and South America. Weekly Wine Flights are a great opportunity to sample the many styles offered on the list. If wine is not your thing, perhaps you would enjoy one of the many cervesas, always served in a frosty mug with a lime.

"Outside table was lovely with planter's boxes blocking the street. The restaurant is located in a neighborhood with a four way stop, so traffic is quiet; plane noise from overhead, not so much. Once we got our Sangria and guacamole, all was forgiven. Hands down the best guacamole & best homemade chips. Everything is freshly prepared, favors marry perfectly, no ingredient overpowering the other. When our sandwiches arrived, the huge piece of bread was screaming carb coma, but it was light, airy, soft, and crunchy. We entertain a lot with out of town guests and Cafe Ena is on the top of our list. I think the inside could become quite noisy as it's small with a lot of tables. Service was just the perfect time between courses."

"My husband & I have been there twice - once on a date night and we enjoyed it so much we went back with friends (who all raved about it as well). The guacamole is a definite must-have, as are the empanadas and the steak w/Gorgonzola. The waitstaff are excellent - attentive, friendly & knowledgeable. My only complaint would be that they only serve beer & wine, and a mojito would taste so great with the guacamole. However, the beer/wine list is extensive enough that you will certainly find something to complement your meal. Overall...outstanding! We will definitely be back."

"I brought my parents here when they came to visit. They thought the food and ambiance was great. My mother likes to garden and she thought it was great that the restaurant had flower boxes outside with fresh herbs and vegetable planted. I wish it wasn't raining so we could have sat on the patio."

"My daughter and I went to Cafe Ena for the first time for an early dinner on Mother's Day. We love latin cuisine. Very quaint interior - it was 6:30 and still light out, but imagine this would have a very romantic vibe after dark. Service was good. Food was very good - I never imagined guacamole could be so good - honestly it was other worldly. My daughter had the beef medalions - generous portion of beef, risotto was a bit gummy. I had the Miaz, cornmeal coated salmon. This was the down side of the meal - tasteless, and when it cooled off, it tasted of old oil - strange. We skipped desert as we had no room, but definately will return and recommend to others!"

"My husband and I went to Cafe Ena shortly after they opened several years ago and at the time we weren't that impressed. We had gone for dinner as well as lunch. However, it is in our neighborhood and we decided to give it another try this weekend. What a difference! The food was excellent and the service was great as well. We sat outside at one of the sidewalk tables with our 3 year old (at his request) and he loved the food as well. He said everything was "yummy". We will definitely be adding this to our list of regular spots."

"Our party of 6 this past Saturday night had a ball. We split 3 appetizers and all were delicious - calamari, ceviche and the camaron Caribe - with those last two making it onto my "best of" list for starters. Wow! 3 kinds of seafood entrees and the beef medallions were all very different and all prepared and plated beautifully with taste results to match. Next time, will try to have room for the intriguing looking desserts as well - I'm sure they're great. And, it's good value for this level of food and service - roughly $50 pp including 2 bottles of wine for the table, a few assorted other beverages, tax and tip."

"Overall I don't have any complaints about Cafe Ena. Thank goodness for reservations because it was apparent how busy the restaurant became as the night went on. The only note I would make, is that although to food seems fresh, it lakes flavor and spice. The prices are high for the flavor and originality of the dishes."

"This was our third trip to this restaurant in three months. After we discovered it we have returned with friends twice. The food is terrific and beautifully arranged. The Campesino salad, sea bass, scallops are our favorite dishes - so far. Each time we try something different and have loved every dish. Word is getting out about how great this place is. The place was packed on Saturday night and folks were still waiting for tables at 9:00. Service is very attentive and very knowledgeable!"

"We went here to celebrate hubby's birthday on a Sunday night. It was very quiet, so we had a nice intimate dining experience. The server was very attentive and helpful. "Wonderful mom & pop neighborhood joint.. the staff was kind and friendly but not as attentive as they could have been for a slow Sunday night. We asked about a salmon dish and was told they were out (should have mentioned when they handed out the menu); we asked for fresh cracked pepper and they said the mill was broken and handed us a shaker; we asked for coffee and hot water at the end of the meal and got barely warm coffee and no water. ever. Not attentive but at least not rude??
The food was good. I am a bit of a foodie so of course some things could be better but it was good and I'd come back for the food, but be worried about the service..."

"This was our second time at Ena. Our service was outstanding both times, but our food this time around wasn't as good. My husband was very happy with his steak but his fries were greasy and under seasoned. My pork was tough but other than that the rest of meal was delicious. My sour cream potatoes were fantastic and my veg was cooked well. I was disappointed with how many people they attempt to seat in a small area. We were less than 12 inches from a post and two other tables around us. We felt very cramped at a small two-person table with flowers, advertisements for brunch, and full set of plates. While maximizing profit is important, we probably won't go back until we can sit outside again to avoid being crammed into another tight space."

"This was our third trip back to Cafe Ena. This trip did not live up to previous experiences there. Our server was friendly as is usual for Cafe Ena but she was very inattentive. We waited for refills, had to ask for bread, and in general she seemed disinterested. This was a stark change from previous servers we have had. The food there is always good and there isnt anything on the menu that doesn't look good. Normally we love everybite of what we order, however this time the sauces seemed salty. Two of three in our group liked the basic flavors but due to saltiness they did not finish their meals. We will certainly return but will be paying attention for inconsistencies."

"There were three in our dining party. We all ordered something different and all enjoyed the food. We shared the guacamole appetizer. Portions were ample and we had enough to take home part of the sandwiches. Service was great."

"Outstanding food and service. We had 3 appetizers, and although all were good, the Guacamole was out of this world--the red and yellow tomatoes and red onions added great flavor; the guar had enough body to served it in the shape of a cored pineapple standing on end. More homemade chips please.
I had the covrina and my wife had the salmon. Both were great but I have to say the beet-apple risotto with the balsamic reduction with the salmon was beautiful to look at and very tasty. The giant sea scallops were amazing. They came grilled to juicy perfection with a light passilla (pepper) sauce that was perfectly balanced to complement rather the scallops.
Lava cake was nice but fairly typical.
I will certainly be back."

"Cafe Ena is a nice little restaurant near the Tangletown neighborhood. The food was creative and delicious, and the price/value relationship was very good for what we got. Their wine selection is a little weak, but maybe it reflects their standard clientele. We had the steak entree, which was terrific and also the chicken raviolis. It is difficult to pin a certain cuisine to this establishment, but everything was very good. When we first were seated it took a very long time for a server to greet us and the restaurant was not all that busy -- we ended up flagging someone down in the end and then the service was a little better."

"I cannot think off cafe ena without starting to obsess about their ceviche and when can I have it gain? It is sublime! In fact, I have introduced several friends to this friendly and cozy restaurant and they have never been disappointed. Whether we are there for lunch or dinner, order only appetizers or full dinners I leave completely satisfied."

"My husband and I split our meal. We started with the ceviche - really excellent flavor with just enough lime and acidity. However, I would really love it if the dish would come with fried plantains instead of chips. We had the beet salad which was lovely and then we split the beef with chimichurri sauce which was wonderfully cooked red in the middle and seared on the outside - ummmmmm! We ordered a nice bottle of red wine and the meal was completely satisfying! The only downside was the waitron encouraged us to have the ceviche and salad delivered at the same time and in retrospect I would prefer to enjoy and savor these dishes one at a time. Bottom Line: We have been here many times and love the food!"

"Best guacamole we have ever had. Less reliant on garlic and spice that seems to be a recent trend at other restaurants. You can taste all the fresh ingredients. At the time you are being seated just let them know you want to start with a caraffe of sangria and an order of guacamole.
We make a point of going here because we want to support something that we never want to go away.
All the menu items taste great and are presented beautifully and right on time.
We'd be remiss if we did not emphasize what a good value Cafe Ena is. For the quality of the food and service you'd pay 1/3 more per entre in a downtown location."

"For the first time we found that both the seabass and pork loin dish were to salted, what really surprised us. But it was still very good but could have used a little less salt. Regardless Cafe Ena remains one of our favorite restaurant."

"Easter brunch at Cafe Ena was great. Good menu selection, and very reasonably priced. The smoothies are wonderful!!
The only downsides: it was pretty packed and we waited about 10 minutes for a table, even with a reservation. Also, our food came out warm-not hot. Normally I would have requested a quick zap,but the pace was pretty frantic due to the holiday so I give them a pass.
I am planning on returning on a normal day to try more of the menu!"
