"At this time in my life, Black's is my favorite restaurant. I can trust it to make my special event a really special occasion. I love the food, the service, and the decor. The staff is sweet, attentive, and willing to make your experience wonderful. The presentation of the food is great, and the food itself is very well prepared. I love attention to detail, and Black's hits it out of the park. Great American steak and seafood. Give Black's a try and enjoy yourself!"

"We've enjoyed Blacks before.
Quiet Sunday evening dinner out. I made the mistake of ordering a salad of local greens. I should have known better. That stuff looks like someone's lawn clippings and tastes spiky, bitter, and altogether inedible. I thiught this kind of silliness was left behind a few years ago. Pretense over taste.
My wife and I both ordered the seafood sttew, which was neither cioppino nor Bouillabaisse. Heavy on the potatoes and a very peppery spice but also very generous quantities of a variety of seafood. Hearty and generous but not great.
Time to get other things or go other places.

"our waiter was playing hide and seek. if he said he'd come back in 2 minutes, it would be 20. Would have liked a second glass of wine, but was finished with meal by the time he resurfaced. My 2 friends had the Addie's Mussels. I had the rare tuna, which was excellent. Food and ambience, and conversation were great, the evening was somewhat spoiled by the poor service. my husband and I have dined here many times, in the restaurant and at the bar area, so I was disappointed since I recommended the restaurant for a girls' night out."

"We spent our Mothers Day brunch at Blacks and we were impressed by the quality, variety, and quantity of food available for the buffet. Everything was scrumptious and the brunch drinks were tasty, too. The crepe station was well stocked with fresh fruit and freshly made whipped cream. We will definitely be back the next time we're in Bethesda."

"We've always enjoyed the Black's restaurants but this was our first time at the Bar and Kitchen, and it did not disappoint. All three of us ended up ordering seafood dishes and shared the Thai mussels for appetizer. All four dishes were uniformly outstanding. The combinations of the seafood and its accompaniments were very imaginative, e.g., grilled mountain trout over a bed of greens and mashed sweet potatoes. Service was cheerful and friendly but not overbearing. Great dining experience. We were there on a rainy evening but I imagine outdoors dining on the patio by the rock pond would be quite enjoyable given the right weather."

"All our food was excellent. Thai Mussels were outstanding. Sword fish filet (Market fish) and the night’s special Black Fish entrée were very good as well. Sword fish was grilled just right. Made our 35th wedding anniversary very special."

"The fish dishes are sublime as are the oyster choices. I had Wolf Fish! Had never heard of it, but I will look for it on menus in the future. It was excellent! It was prepared sautéed with clams and mussels in a delicious broth over lovely vegetables. If you get the opportunity - order it. The oysters were excellent - briney and sweet at the same time. I love oysters from the Northwest and these did not disappoint.
The restaurant is noisey - but I knew that prior to arrival. This is a favorite!"

"I went for my birthday to Black's Bar and Kitchen. I read the reviews beforehand and they were on point about the food being very good but the service lackluster. There was nothing technically wrong with the service, just that the timing of it was extremely slow. Between the waits for the server and the food from the kitchen, our meal was drawn out to almost over two hours. The food itself was very tasty. We ordered the mussels and oyster selection appetizers which were very fresh and delicious. The Addie's mussels were in an 'herby' and bright tomato based broth which i could hardly get enough of. The scallops, which are their specialty were extremely flavorful but a tad on the salty side. The same can be said for their duck dish."

"We went early and remembered Blacks from about 2 years ago and it use to be excellent. The rib-eye was chewy, the special salad was just OK and the "fish stew" was tasty but spicy and it wasn't listed as spicy

"My lunch experience was okay, not memorable. Adequate waitress. Brought food, left w/o asking if we needed anything else. Had to get her attn to get hot sauce.
We ordered fish tacos-fish portion was very skimpy. Fish was warm, but seemed like it had been prepared earlier, then assembled for the order.
I live in Northern Neck,drove 80 miles to lunch w/ friend. Picked Blacks b/c website said some food comes from VA's Northern Neck & Southern MD. There was no reference to that on menu, suggest you highlight that if it's true."

"out of the party of 5, 4 people had great food. I had mussels and freits and the mussels were fair and the fries really bad. also the blueberry/orange sorbet was left on the table. Just not good. The other meals were reported to be very good thus the rating. The noise level made it very difficult to talk. I will give Black's another try."

"Our server tried to tell us that the we would like a certain wine but he really did not know how to describe it. He should have asked someone to come over who knew wines- it just seemed like he was yessing us to get the order. then someone in a suit brought the wine and said he had not tried any of the wines we had asked our waiter about. He was probably a manager and was very pleasant but with a busy restaurant that charges high prices you should have a sommelier or someone who knows wines."

"The Black's small local "food empire" is a real gift to this area. Urban, hip and always interesting food selections prepared impeccably. No complaints, just wish servers would get used to a single, woman waiting for a friend and/or eating by herself. It's a cultural thing not a restaurant problem. Love all of the Black's locations. "The Sunday menu was very limited unless you chose to have the brunch. I wanted to order a side salad with my Shrimp and Grits but it was too expensive to have as just a plate of mixed greens. "This was our second visit to Black's after frequenting their sister restaurant Addie's numerous times. Good was EXCELLENT as we've come to expect, atmosphere was lively, and the wait was decent. What was atrocious was the wait staff's service. Our waiter all but ignored us and, although it was busy for a Saturday night, the man had less than 1/2 dozen tables. It's ridiculous when I have to drink my wine w dessert bc he took forever to take my wine order. It's not that the bar was backed up, the drinks came quickly.....once he finally took the order. And he didn't even bother asking about dessert, he simply brought us our bill. I normally tip 20%, but left only 10% this time. Maybe that was too much in retrospect."

"Our meal was good but the service was surprisingly inept. I had arranged for a nice bottle of champagne ahead of time but had to remind the waiter of this after we were seated. We were slow to decide on our orders, but instead of returning to check on us we were completely abandoned as diners around us were seated, orders taken, drinks served, etc. I guess if you are going to ask if we are celebrating a special occasion, it would be nice if the service would reflect the same sense of celebration. We have often enjoyed nice meals at Black's, but I guess if we want something special to celebrate, we should go elsewhere next time."

"We had a wonderful dinner. Our Martinis were superb, our dinners superb with perfectly cooked steaks (as ordered). It was my husband's birthday and we received some take home treats as well as a copy of the menu with a Happy Birthday wish at the top.

"Lunch service is usually great. It was AWFUL for us on Good Friday. It was a business lunch and several tables were seated, ate and left in the time it took us. It took forever to order, to have the table cleared, to get coffee and the check. Each step was painfully long. Something is wrong. Nothing can compensate for horrible service. Despite having been a regular, I think I'll be moving my business to Food Wine and Company."

"Black's is one of my favorite spots in the metro area. This time I brought a first-timer who says Black's is now his favorite spot. We started with a glass of prosecco. Very good. Then, always, we had Addie's mussels. LOVE THESE MUSSELS! Serving it with a loaf of warm bread to sop up the perfect juice is genius -- I wouldn't want to miss a drop! The sommelier helped with a nice wine selection, we shared some oysters, all perfectly presented and served. Our server was attentive without being pesky - a difficult line for most. I ordered the fillet and my friend the tuna and both were delicious! The sides of mashed potatoes and asparagus were also exceptional.
Black's is a don't miss. Go, take your time and satiate your senses!"
