"Service was exceptional and the food was good. We went for brunch and it was nothing over the top but was good, no complaints. Would like to go back for dinner to see what their chefs can do. The setting is beautiful and definitely an experience."

"This is one that will be remembered. It was a very good choice for brunch on Mother's Day. A gentleman played the piano while we enjoyed the delicious meal. Later an opera singer come in and she sang so beautifully along with the piano accompaniment. She was so good I thought it was a record or recording playing until my son pointed the singer out while she was singing. Absolutely fabulous!"

"Our evening at The Whitney was outstanding! The wine in the bar. The table location. The dinner wine. The meal. The server and the tour of the restaurant conducted by ther server. Even the interaction with the parking valet was pleasant. Overall one of the best dining experience my partner and I have had. She was very impressed with everything as well."

"We were trying to find a different place to celebrate my birthday and we were not disappointed with the Whitney. We first went up to the Ghost Bar for a cocktail. We were a little disappointed in the lack of experience our waitress had although she was very pleasant. With the price of those drinks, you would think they would have an outstanding staff. We were seated for dinner in the "library" in a corner table that was perfect. Our waitress here was able to answer all our questions about the menu and give some good suggestions. The food was outstanding: crab cake appetizer was delicious; eggplant bruschetta was very good; Beef Wellington was cooked as ordered; carrot cake was to die for!"

"While saving those pennies for that trip to Hawaii, if you find yourself with a few extra, the Whitney is a good choice. It is not a "hey, what's for dinner" event. High prices (may I say over-priced) for sure. If you can get your head wrapped around that, it's a great experience. Our server, can't recall her name, was very friendly with an enjoyable knack of gab. My oldest daughter, a vegan, was able to make liberal substitutions. The portions were small and ala carte. Food was very slow in coming. We hit the 3rd floor ghost bar after dinner which is still youngster friendly. Enjoyed Sonny and the piano bar who put on a nice interactive show with the us and the small wedding party in the back dining room. $6 valet to avoid headache."

"Very disappointed! Our first time at the Whitney - and our last. We were seated right around the corner from the piano and there was little in the way of acoustical dampening, which made conversation at our table very difficult. Service was mediocre, at best. Three of us ordered the signature Beef Wellington, one ordered the fillet. The fillet came cooked as ordered. However, the Beef Wellingtons were ordered medium-rare, medium, and medium-well, but all arrived medium. Little, if any, difference between the three. And everything is ala-cart. The $36 fillet was just that - a filet with a few onion shavings on top - with no veggies, no potato choice, nothing else. We would have been disappointed at half the price."

"I would love to think that this was an off day at the Whitney, but unfortunately this is my third experience of poor service there. Two of which visits were brunch, one was dinner. The poor service is really a distraction from the excellent food. We showed up an hour off from our reservation and the staff did very well at accommodating the last minute time change. It went downhill after that. I have experienced more prompt drink refills at Bob Evans.
The house, history, and atmosphere is really wonderful. I learn a little something about the history or architecture on every visit. We go to the Whitney for the experience. This was a special occasion for us. Decent servers are expected. Three strikes and you're out."

"I hadn't eaten at The Whitnet in a long, long time, so since it was Detroit Restaurant Week I decided to treat myself and my grandmother. We have the duck taco and scallop for our appetizers. We received a complimentary bite of salmon mousse from the chef that was delicious. Both of us were very satisfied with our entrees & dessert. The customer service was very good. We arrived too early, but that allowed us the opportunity to tour the house. The only thing our server forgot was our bread. But I don't really need the carbs anyway so I didn't complain. Other than that, it was a very delicious meal, on a rainy day at a warm and beautiful location. I'm looking forward to dinner at The Whitney again soon."

"My wife and I went o the Whitney for our 50th anniversary . We had a wonderful dinner and our service was excellent. My only complaint if I had to come up with one would be the piano player was to loud for my husband who is hard of hearing and wears hearing aids. but I repeat we had a wonderful dinner and great service."

"The Whitney home was a great place that evening to have dinner for the Detroit Restaurant Week.
My only complaint was that the dish I ordered wasn't too good. The trout was pan seared. I felt that it was old and not freshly cooked. I will not order that dish again.
The entertainment was excellent."

"Good experience. Was there during Detroit Restaurant Week. Great choices to pick from. Service was great. Didn't feel hurried or sitting too long. The former home it is in is fabulous! Pricey but well worth it for a special occasion. It probably deserves a 5 star experience but I never give anything 5 stars."

"My girlfriend and I found the whole experience first class! All of the employees were both informative and ready to,serve with a smile. The wait staff was especially detailed in his service to our table with comments like " Are you folks in a hurry or do we have time?" After dinner, we enjoyed the Ghostbar upstairs for dessert and Sinatra. Great entertainment. We'll be back for outdoor Garden themes!"

"Came here for Restaurant Week. Service was excellent, everyone was courteous and attentive.. They even let us switch to a corner table. Food was okay, although we only chose from the limited restaurant week menu. Would recommend for girls' night out. After dinner we went upstairs to the Ghost Bar where there was a live Motown cover band! It was great energy! Would definitely try another Friday night here."

"We had not been to the Whitney for dinner in over 20 years. It was always beautiful inside, but the food and service always seemed to be lacking. Because of restaurant week and the fact they have new owners, we gave it another try. Well, needless to say......it was WONDERFUL.. We arrived early for our reservations, so we went up to the Ghost bar and had a drink. We could not believe they had a 5 person group of singers playing Motown and 50's music. We loved it!! Our dinner was superb, service was excellent, did not feel rushed at all. We were impressed that John, the manager came over to introduce himself. He was truly passionate about his job and took pride in the Whitney. Piano player was the icing on the cake! We will retur"

"My experience at The Whitney was fantastic. The mansion is breathtaking and you get a definite vintage, classic feeling just entering the door. My waiter was friendly and answered any questions we had and the food was phenomenal. I would recommend the Lump Crab Cake and Duck Confit Taco for starters - just lovely. Will go again many times over."

"This is a great "special occasion" restaurant. The lighting, the small rooms, and music created a very romantic setting to celebrate a special event as a couple. The Whitney itself is a beautiful mansion full of rich character. The food was delicious and the service was exceptional."

"Ran out of the dessert I wanted, put bacon on one of the dishes that was requested to not have bacon, and never brought out the bread with our appetizers even after asking about it. Food was good though and the building is really cool. I would never go if it wasn't cheaper because of Detroit Restaurant week. When you spend that much money you expect everything to be perfect."

"I have wanted to eat at the Whitney for years and thought that restaurant week would be a great time to try it out. We had tickets to the Fisher Theater and came after our show. The restaurant is beautiful and I enjoyed reading the history of the mansion provided as we walked around after our dinner on a self guided tour. Our meal left a lot to be desired. My meal was served cold and when it was sent back to be fixed, it was apparent that they heated it up quickly because the greens were no longer fresh. I ordered the wine paired with my meal and it was not available. The dessert that was part of our meal had three choices on the menu, but only one was available. Not too eager to return."

"Nothing overtly wrong; it was just a normal nice brunch. Which isn't bad, I guess, but our expectations (aided by the premium price) were much higher than that. The service was also good but not jaw-dropping. The facility was as beautiful as always."

"It had been awhile since I had eaten there and the food was even better than I remembered! The server was a little gruff and in attentive, but the water guy more than made up for it, I would have rated this perfect except for the waiter's in attentiveness and gruff responses to questions- I asked if there were a vegetarian option to the 'Restaurant Week' menu and he just snipped backed "No". I found this to be out of character for the restaurant and he followed up with "Oh yeah, we can make the Risotto vegetarian ". It was the best Risotto I have ever had!"

"I enjoyed the ambiance of this place. I always wanted to go to the Whitney but never made the time to do so. Q was our waiter and he was excellent! Really personable and kind person. He even took us for a brief tour. I did Restaurant Week. I had the Duck Taco Appetizer and the Trout over Pasta. The Trout was excellent but the pasta was not so good. I also tasted my dates Chicken. It was just ok. We went to the Ghost bar afterwards. Once again, this place is beautiful and I would recommend it just for the environment."

"A wonderful opportunity to visit again after 20 years (having moved from the area, and returning). This was during Detroit Restaurant Week. Portions were quite large. I did not get a sense as to what prices were during regular business, but I saw a few meals which were not part of Restaurant Week - they were pretty generous, too. The bar on the 3rd floor looked inviting."

"Rating the food as fair is being a little generous. My steak had more fat than meat, the dessert tasted like it came out of the frozen foods section, and the wine had virtually no flavor. The Whitney's amazing location is quickly becoming its only redeeming quality."

"I have had the priviledge of dining in some of the best restaurants in the world. I would consider The Whitney among them. However..although "Jules" gave us excellent service, her backup staff seemed distracted: cold decaf, cold rack of lamb, etc.
At our predinner drink in the upstairs bar, Lou treated us like Royalty!!!!"

There was also a wide variety of food to choose from. We had everything from chicken to shrimp to prime rib to salmon as well as a custom omelette. The Whitney is always spectacular with its gorgeous atmosphere. Truly a wonderful dining experience!"
