The Sushi Ko food philosophy is Cuisine of Subtraction. According to Creative Director Daisuke Utagawa, subtraction allows chefs to reveal the essence of each ingredient in it's most honest yet refined state. By subtly combining other ingredients, a taste sensation is created that demonstrates the complexity and beauty of nature for the eye and the palate.
"Chef Handry did an incredible off-the-menu Omakase for six of us, and it was outstanding! The lobster sashimi was the highlight of the meal. Annie is a terrific wait person too. We had a lot of special requests, and she handled everything brilliantly."

"the chefs at the sushi bar were very welcoming and helpful. we ate sushi off the special menu, live scallop, white tuna sashimi, etc. no uni on the night we dined, but everything tasted great. we arrived at 7:30p, the patio was crowded, but fewer diners inside. Only one other at the sushi bar. By the time we left, the restaurant was crowded. Nice dinner."

"We sat at the sushi bar and just asked Chef to put in front of us what he thought we'd like and he did not disappoint. Just let him create and you'll be happy about what you get."

"This place has really cranked up the level of the seafood ever since Chef Handry took over. Amazing and original sashimi dishes, plus an interesting wine list. They recommend red Burgundy or Oregon Pinot Noir to pair with sashimi, and it's a great combination!"

"I found the prices to be high, but reasonable relative to other mid to high end sushi restaurants. The service was excellent, and the cocktails were generous. The wild mushroom soup and tempura vegetables were delicious. The fish was... Okay. It was fresh, bit seemed slightly warmer than I generally prefer. Generally it was nothing special, and similar fare of similar quality can be had at many area restaurants."

"Sushi Ko was always one of our favorites, and now it's even better. Whether the rumors of a new chef are true or not, there are some splendid recent additions to the menu. Best is Tune Element (or is it Element Tuna?) which absolutely sparkles with flavor."

"Of all the DC area's Japanese restaurants, Sushiko Chevy Chase is consistently the best. Amazing cooked dishes, like the soft crab Kara-age and the eel are fabulous if you don't want raw fish, but the sashimi small plates are phenomenal. Totally recommended."

"Sushi Chef Handry is a Michelin-star-worthy creator of phenomenal fusion dishes. Just sit at the sushi bar and ask him to do whatever he wants. You will be amazed."

"They have a new Sushi Chef named Handry, and he is a total wizard. Forget the menu. Just sit in front of him and ask him to create whatever he feels like. It's an unbelievable experience. The Ankimo is amazing."

"I took my wife for mother's day. We enjoyed the food and overall dining experience. But to feed a family and not feel hungry when you leave you end up ordering more. The final bill ended up as a bit of a shock. The opentable rating system needs a value category. Sushiko would only get 2 stars for value. Even though I enjoyed the food I will probably pick a different sushi restaurant next time."

"we were seated in the lower dining area, along with quite a few very young children Its not an attractive room to begin with, and the ambience was substantially reduced. would not want to sit there again.
don't like their a la carte menu that much. $4 for miso soup? $2 for a bowl of rice."

"There was a bad odor emanating from the carpet we think in the area in which we were initially seated. We asked for another table and while there was still a faint odor of mildew, it was better. Sushi was just average. Disappointed given the reviews. Decor needs updating!"

"We decided to try Sushi Ko because we were looking for a 4-5 star Yelp restaurant that was open for lunch and we are so glad we did. We sat at the sushi bar and ate amazing sushi and sashimi prepared just for us. It was fresh and flavor-packed. My husband liked the wine list, and he is hard to please. He likes wine lists that include wines that are good values at all price points. The service was amazing - attentive without being instrusive at all. We had a fantastic time and plan to go again even though we do not live close by."

"Excellent food, gracious service, and a beautiful setting. What more could you want?!! We shared a lunch of seaweed salad, crunchy spicy salmon roll, and hamachi roll. Ginger ice cream was a refreshing way to cap the meal."

"They have a new Sushi chef named Handry, who is coming up with some amazing dishes. Sushiko now also has ankimo (monkfish liver), which is sushi's answer to foie gras (but you have to ask for it -- it's not on the menu)! Phenomenal stuff."

"The new Sushi-bar chef Henry has created a bunch of new dishes, including a seared Suzuki (rockfish) that is out of this world. Sushiko has really stepped up the level of its sashimi and cooked dishes. Major kudos!"

"The food is very good but very expensive. We went for lunch and there was no lunch special except for a 3 course $24 meal which is not what most people want for lumch. The place was empty and I would guess that is why."

"Pristine fish and attentive table service have made us Sushi Ko regulars. We especially like the crunchy spicy tuna rolls. The DC area is chock-a- block with restaurants but precious few to which we want to return again and again."

"food was excellent, although service was terribly slow. both my appetizer and entree orders came out more than 5 minutes after my husbands. they did apologize several times and i know they were busy, but it was still more than slow service and made the meal a little awkward. still would go back as the food is fresh and delicious!"

"Having tickets to see the Kodo Drummers of Japan at Constitution Hall, SushiKo was the perfect spot for an early dinner. Food and presentation were very nice, but going so early on a Saturday is definitely "children's hour." Though we had someplace to be, we never felt rushed and service was prompt and effective. Will return at a later hour to enjoy with even more leisure time."

"We had an off-menu item -- the Burikama, which is a roasted yellowtail jaw. Think of it as the seafood equivalent of big meaty ribs. Amazing preparation. We were a group of 7 and spent probably 4 hours at dinner ordering course after course. Fabulous place!"

"Our server Kellie made our visit to SuskiKo amazing. Her recommendations were spot on and she was so good about making recommendations that were things we hadn't tried before but that were SOOOO good. The tuna tartare was my favorite dish hands down, but we didn't try anything bad. YUM!"
