Purchased several years ago by Dan Wesolowski, the former Valley Tavern was completely remodeled and renamed for the tiny Cedar Hollow village where it has stood for more than 100 years. The "bones" of the old building remain the same, with three comfortable dining rooms including an enclosed sun porch plus a large bar area. But the new decor is impeccably fresh with hardwood floors polished to a high luster and walls brightened with the work of local artist Barbara Grant . The menu reflects the energy and creativity of the kitchen staff headed by CIA trained chef, Stephen Giuseppe. The cuisine is Continental American, but more accurately it should be described as delectable. Generous portions, friendly staff and the casual, fine dining atmosphere keeps people come back for more.
"The food is average, a little overpriced for what you get but it is the service that will keep me from going back. The wait staff is nice enough, but SLOW SLOW SLOW. To be fair, it may be the kitchen that is slow, but the time we had to wait for all of our food was was too long. For example, it took us 15 minutes to get our after dinner coffee and then we were able to drink 2 cups of it before our dessert finally came. We were ready to cancel dessert and ask for the check."

"Cedar Hollow has some thing for everyone... A great bar scene, high tables for 2 and 4 people... white table cloth dining on the porch.... Complete menu, great specials...(gotta try the roast beer) and the big winner, a great selection of oysters."

"I chose the restaurant as a half-way location to meet a friend. It is an hour away for each of us, from opposite directions. I was seated in the front room while waiting for her. The area was full when she arrived and we could not hear each other over the noise. We are seniors so that probably contributed to the problem. The waitress was happy to move us to the room at the back of the restaurant. We were now very comfortable in a quiet location and able to hold a conversation. We had a new server, Kathy, who was delightful and accommodating. We were able to stay as as long as we wanted even though we were the only diners remaining. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch, plan to meet there again, but will request seating in the back room."

"Upon Googling "Dinner & Dancing in Chester County," the first 3 hits were for Cedar Hollow. We wanted to celebrate my wife's birthday on a Friday night. Everything started fine. The location is secluded yet convenient. The building is picturesque outside & in. The porch dining area was romantic, the service & hospitality were impeccable. Our waitress was knowledgeable & the Rock Fish delicious. We lingered over dinner waiting for the music to start. It never did. When we asked about it, the hostess said they just spoke to the musician on the phone & she had the wrong date in her book. She thought she was scheduled for next week. We met some nice people at the bar and will return for another try."

"Our little group had a lovely dinner here. The food was all very tasty, service was very good, seating on the porch was perfect. This was our first visit and I am sure not our last."

"Friendly service, nice ambiance (on porch). Food was a mixed bag: some very tasty (pan-roasted rockfish), some undistinguished (lamb shank), and the toughest brussels sprouts I have ever encountered. Side salad with dinner would have been $4 extra. Our bill for three meals - two dinner entrees, one roast beef sandwich, one beer, one ginger ale, three desserts, and three coffees: $99. We've had better meals for a lot less."

"Went for lunch in a group of five men and found service, food and ability to converse very good. Would certainly recommend. Have also eaten on the porch with my spouse and found that very pleasant also."

"The location threw us as it seems to pop out of no where. The staff people were professional, but a bit too stuffy in that instead of making us feel comfortable (preferred), we felt uneasy. There were 7 of us, 2 of them under the age of 13. The kids didn't like their food at all and the others of us felt the high price did not equal high food qualilty. The presentation of the meals was great but the trip was not worth our while. We were looking for unique/distiguished experience but all agree that heading to a chain restaurant would have been preferred. We wouldn't recommend this little place. it wasn't a good experience. Hope this helps!"

"Another great dinning experience. The menu has a varied selection with something for everyone. The beer selection is very good for a restaurant of it's size. Our waiter was very helpful with choices and made our dinner enjoyable. There was no rush to the dinner and we ate in a relaxed atomsphere. Definately will be returning to dine again."

"It was my birthday celebration and, as always, it was a hit! Great food and they kindly honored my request to sit on the porch. It's one of my favorite local restaurants and I am never disappointed!"

"Generally speaking, I'd rate it as "just OK"; we were glad we had a Groupon, giving us a $55. credit on food (Sunday), as we thought the wine prices were on the high side, considering what choices they offered. Entree prices were, for the most part, reasonable; appetizer prices also seemed high-ish, altho' portions for these appeared generous. My partner's filet mignon, requested to be cooked medium-rare, clearly came out medium; and, my braised short ribs, altho' pleasantly served boneless and nicely tender, were overly salty-tasting. The bar area, right next to our enclosed-porch dining area, clearly attracted a sports-loving, sizeable crowd, and they were rather noisy; but then, it WAS "March Madness" time for NCAA basketball."

"Cedar Hollow is 2 1/2 miles from our house, so we are regulars. The food is very good - try the lobster ravioli. The bar menu is quite good as well - the crab and avocado stack is awesome. We had outstanding service from Connor the night we took my parents there for a birthday dinner. The whole place has a romantic vibe and they have music almost every night in the bar. Just accoustic so you can still hold a conversation with your date. The crowd is 30's/40's and up. Overall, we love this place!"

"Probably would have missed this gem of a restaurant if it hadn't been for the Groupon offer as it is tucked away in a beautiful, off the beaten path location. Food and service was excellent-looking forward to returning! Loved the mussels & clams appetizer!!"

"This place is fantasic. The old house is beautiful and the front dining room is lit perfectly to compliment the music we enjoyed from the bar. The food is absolutely delicious - the tuna steak was cooked to perfection! If you're a dessert lover you are in for treat - they have some unique selections guaranteed to satisfy any craving for sweets!"

"Nice building, good ambiance, service was very attentive. Food left much to be desired. My wife and I both had the pan seared trout, and both the amount of food and the flavors were very disappointing. I literally went home and ate leftovers. Will probably not return."
