"Good choice when downtown to see a play. The food is basic American and old school Italian fare. Steaks, fish, pasta. Nothing extraordinary but well prepared. Service is attentive. The room could use a bit of updating, carpet is old and stained. Decent wine list and cocktails. The prix fixe is a good deal."

"We really enjoyed our time at Petterino's. We've been before, and each time is consistently very good. Wait staff is outstanding! Our waiter in particular was VERY good, and really sweet and helpful! I also appreciated not feeling rushed. Love the booths, very comfy and elegant. Overall, I very much enjoy dining at Petterino's! If I were to say one thing, its just that I wish there was a bit more to the menu, a bit more diversity, particularly in the appetizer section. We had the clams and they were absolutely delicious! I just wish I had more of a selection. Other than that, Irv K salad was divine, my steak Diane was perfect! Big Yum and thanks!"

"We arrived at 6:30 and were seated outside as requested. If I ever return to this resturant, which is doubtful, I will not sit outside. Very close to the street at a busy intersection, so lots of street traffic makes for a pretty noisey experience.

We placed our order and shortly thereafter the the waitrees came back to tell us that sadly BOTH entrees we had ordered were "no longer available" - Salmon and Ravoli.

The waitress was pleasant enough. She did bring us chocolate mousse cake, (after we declined dessert?) which was delicious and complimentary... the high spot of an otherwise diappointing evening.

Not at all what we expected from a resturant that had come highly recommended by several co-workers."

"this reminds me of Sardi's in NYC with all the sketches on the walls of celebrities, and the servers in classic black suit attire, and the white tablecloths, and all the old style elegance"

"We had tickets to a 2:00 matinee and made reservations for 4 people at noon. We were seated promptly. Our server arrived, looked over my shoulder and said "you have the wrong menus. They gave you lunch menus and we are on dinner menus " (it was noon!). She was annoyed and unfriendly. When we ordered, we asked for 2 separate checks. Again she was annoyed and said "that will take longer." The food was adequate although part of the order was missing when our lunch/dinner arrived and we had to ask several times before it finally came. Our water glasses were not refilled without us asking. We will try a different restaurant next time."

"Excellent location for dinner before a show. We ate at 5:30 and had no problem getting to our show on time. They also had no problem giving us separate checks for our group of 5 women. Chicken pot pie was actually more like chicken a la king but good."

"We were seated efficiently in a comfortable booth in the main dining room which our preference versus the energetic (noisey) bar area. Our waiter was professional, attentive yet reserved (no superficial chatter that so many waitstaff feel compelled to have customers these days). The food was excellent, perfectly prepared. There was not even a minor misstep. Petterino's is frequently our pick when we have theater plans but also when we have family or friends in town. Great for lunch or dinner."

"I went here with a friend before a 7:30 show on a Tuesday. The place was packed, I assume with other theater-goers as it cleared out just after 7pm. We were seated without menus, perhaps due to the crowd, but our waitress was great and we made it to our show with time to spare. It's a perfect spot to go before heading to the theater, or if you aren't going to a show I imagine it would be a nice quiet night out on a weeknight."

"Chicken skin was tough/dry/leathery. Rest of chicken was good. Cooked vegetables were greasy, almost slimy. Caesar salad dressing was BLAND; the parmesan was tasteless; the romaine was limp/wilted. Crab cakes were alright, but would not order again. Parmesan scallops were good. Desert was very good... Cheese cake and milk chocolate moose. Do they purchase desert from outside sources? The quality of desert was vastly better than meal. Place was so noisy we could not hear each other talk! Service was good."

"A classic restaurant for a before-theater meal. The server knew of our theater recommendations and served in a timely fashion but with little time to spare. Blackened scallops were quite nice though salty. Husband's steak Diane was acceptable though not special. There is nothing extra special about this restaurant, but it was not extra high in price either."

"It was our first time at the restaurant. We chose it because it was near the theater. We were pleased that it ended up being a very good choice. The menu had a good variety of choices. I had the blackened scallops and it was extremely good. The service was very attentive. The food arrived quickly and at the right temperature and the wait staff was very attentive at refilling water glasses.
The tables were a bit close together so it was not really a romantic, quiet spot but the food and service was very good so we would definitely return."

"The staff is not very mindful of those of us who are headed to Goodman. We allowed plenty of time for our meal -- two hours! Still, we waited so long between courses that we had to make a dash for the curtain. One would think since it is next door to Goodman, they would be very sensitive to the timing issues for theater goers."

"We knew Petterinos' would be good, but it even exceeded our expectations! It was fabulous!! "Always a great experience - both food and service. The Fritzel salad before entrees is unique and better than any 'side' salad I've ever had. Celebrating my friends birthday, our server, Jayson, brought a surprise piece of decadent chocolate cake with sauce for dessert. For a nice meal in the Loop, or a bite before or after a show, Petterino's is tops!"

"We've been happy here a number of times. This time was not good. Waited at mostly empty bar to be served. Bar drink tonic was flat, had it remade but was the same, no check back to see how it was. Seated and 15 minutes before waiter approached table. Drink served in tumbler should have been in martini glass, was not "very cold' as ordered. Waiter left menu on table through whole dinner "in case we wanted to order dessert". forgot originally ordered side dish. We asked for refill on bread-basket and got 3-rolls on a plate dumped on side of table. Portion of salmon was minimal-sized, pasta was ridiculously huge. All in all perfunctory and careless service in a not even half full restaurant."

"We dined at Petterino's before seeing "The Book of Mormon". The service was great. We both had the prixe fixe menu and the scallops and Homer's ice cream (yum). This is our destination before the theatre!!"

"We had one person in our group who had not been to this restaurant and found it very enjoyable. He particularly enjoyed the gnocchi he ordered. He is a vegetarian and liked the menu choices. I liked the restaurant and would recommend to anyone dining in the loop."

"This is a great place to dine when in the theater district of Chicago. Food and service are always great. Valet parking is also a plus because you can dine and pick your car up after the theater for a fee of $14.00 - which is a great rate for downtown Chicago parking. Tomato Bisque soup is always a pleaser, and I am partial to the Irv Kupcinet Salad!"

"This was my second visit at Petterino's and I really enjoy the service and the food there. My sister and I took my mom there for Mother's Day and she really enjoyed her food and service. I also enjoyed the fact that they gave Mother's Day card to all the moms in the restaurant. I would recommend this place to anyone that is looking for good food and great service."
