"The meal was a delight for the palette. The combination of mint, shredded carrots, and mussels in wine sauce was a wonderful first course. The rest of the meal was also delicious. Service was excellent and attentive. We sat outside near the fountain, wonderful. Everyone else was inside that night, so it was as if we had the whole place to ourselves."

"Our service was acceptable, our oysters/mussels, amberjack/sirloin, and desserts were delicious. The tables were too close together for my liking. The couple next to us was friendly, but the couple that sat after them was so loud that we had trouble following our own conversation instead of theirs. I don't like to sit 18 inches away from a loud person when I eat."

"Really disappointed in this restaurant. The service took forever! It took us 45 minutes to get our appetizer then another hour to get our entrees. The desserts were terrible. The fish wasn't very warm when it was served. Would not recommend this restaurant."

"Our waiter couldn't have been nicer - very pleasant, very patient as we took a long time choosing food, explained dishes well. But. I'd remembered they did fish simply and beautifully. This time all the fish was fresh and skillfully cooked, but 2 of 3 different main courses were heavily oversauced and the sauce on my trout was biting and odd, esp paired with trout. Calamari came with an electric orange sauce dribbled on top. What's with all the sauce? The Key Lime pie was excellent, however. Blu, you're a lovely restaurant.. Please return to your previous classy and simple presentations of very fresh fish."

"My girlfriend and I ate here this past Saturday. Got there a little early and sat at the bar and had a couple drinks. Bartender was excellent! Girlfriend had a Classy Pirate, which she loved! Got seated as soon as we were ready and the service was great. Waiter was present but not annoying. We were able to enjoy our meal and conversation without being interrupted by a waiter every few minutes. Highly recommend any of the fish. Very fresh and delicious. We will definitely be dining there again soon!"

"the food was, as always, superb! This is my favorite local restaurant, hands down. We sat on the patio which only has a few tables but it was lovely, quiet, and the perfect place for a celebratory meal. The staff is attentive without hovering, and we loved every dish. The fried oyster caesar plate is always a favorite, as is the fried calamari. My husband had catch of the day and I had the scallops. Both elegantly presented on the plate, hot, and delicious. A feast for eyes as well as palate!"

"This was my second visit to Blu, and as good as the first one was, this was even better. We sampled several types of raw oysters that were fresh and delicious. The New England Clam Chowder was perfect in both its flavor and thickness. The cornmeal-breaded fried calamari was perhaps the best I have ever had, and I have had plenty! It was so good that we had it for dessert too rather than any of the delicious-sounding pastries. It is topped with a delicious slaw and has a wonderful smoked chili aioli. The Carolina mountain trout was cooked to perfection, with a red wine glaze topped with an herb butter that was outstanding. I will absolutely visit again."

"We were both quite pleased with the entrees we ordered. The food and service was very good. The exterior of the building made us wonder about how good the restaurant would be. Parking could be a problem when busy and the parking area was gravel and not paved. This was not a big deal especially after experiencing the delicious food! A great place to eat prior to a concert or performance at DPAC about 2 miles away. They also give a 10% discount to people who have tickets for an event there."

"Well, I was far from impressed and nothing really shone through this average dining experiences. the Oysters had a nice pure of spinach and cream on them reminding us of a dollop of bland baby food heated atop some otherwise good oysters. On to the scallops which looked amazing until I realized that the perfect brown and caramelization was only on the side that could be viewed so once the cook got that color they flipped it for 2 seconds steaming the other side and overall they were cooked perfectly on one side and mush on the other. My wife had the seafood soup which was a nice offering of overcooked mussels and broken clams but the shrimp saved the day and gave it a solid Good rating. And as far as the Service they closed around us."

"Four of us went for lunch as we've been hearing lots of good things about it and we were not disappointed! We all split the yummy clam chowder and agreed that it was one of the best clam chowders we had ever tasted. The special of the day was a striped bass on a bed of sauteed spinach with fried onion strings on top. The fish was cooked perfectly and the accompaniments were great choices. Two of us had the oyster poboys which were delicious- especially with the tasty remoulade sauce.
At the end of our meal, not one of us had anything left on our plates, so I would say that the meal was certainly a success and we will definitely return!"

"The night we were there, there was a LOT of smoke from the kitchen. Not sure if this is a regular thing or not but that seemed to throw off service. (Staff were opening doors to air the place out, etc.). A table next to us was really upset about the service - ours was just fine (same waitress even). Bottom line is that the food was outstanding. We were visiting Durham but would definitely go back."

"The food is always outstanding! I definitely recommend ordering at least one of their specials, whether it be appetizers, entrees, or better yet, all of them. The regular menu is solid but cannot compare to the quality of the daily specials.
The atmosphere has a NC beach feel. It's rustic but if you want to dress up you'll feel just as comfortable as the patrons who are wearing jeans and t-shirts. The servers are a little too unpolished for the caliber of the food, however, that is easy to forgive since the overall experience is always wonderful."

"Our dining experience was great.
My only concerns were:
1) My reservation through Open Table were not in the system. Open Table promised to look into it and make any changes necessary to remedy the problem. I haven't heard anything up to now to address this concern.
2) My fish entree was almost overdone. It was slghtly dry but not enough to send back. It was delicious anyway served with a superb cauliflower puree and roasted veggies.
3) Our dessert was the same. We had a chocolate souffle that arrived at the table extremely hot and was on the edge of burbubg to the bottom of the ramekin. It would have benefited if it were removed from the oven a minute or so earlier and the ice cream allowed to soften just a little bit before serving."

"This was our first visit and it was Valentine's Day with a prix fixe menu. The choices were finer and bioth my wife and I have food issues and cannot have anything with dealt or a lot of oil. They were most responsive to our needs,food was tasty and presented beautifully . We plan to return and sample for a more extensive menu."
