"Food and deal was good. Service was terrible. Made us wait 45 minutes in the bar for our reservation and then I had to go to the front desk to get seated. Of course then they said our table just opened up. It was just there way to get us in the bar for drinks and it worked. 60 bucks with tip for 4 drinks."

"Mozambique has a complimentary shuttle within a 3 mile radius. Laguna Beach is beautiful but the traffic is a nightmare. We made the reservation on Open table. We thought about walking...it was only 1.6 miles but we had walked all day. I decided that I wasn't going to get back in the car again until it was time to leave for the airport because traffic is so awful. I called the restaurant and told them I had a reservation at 6pm and if the shuttle could pick me up. The shuttle picked us up at 6pm because of traffic and our waiter had the shuttle waiting for us when we were ready to leave. Just excellent service all around."

"We had a great Mothers Day dinner this past weekend. Something for everyone. 2 of us are vegetarian and we had plenty of choices while the others enjoyed their steaks. Good kids menu. If you get the option to eat outdoors, do it. We will be back."

"We got to the restaurant a couple of hours early. The hostess was very cordial and was willing to seat us. We decided, however, to spend some at the bar for happy hour. I had an excellent martini for only $6; can't beat that! When we were ready for dinner, we were seated next to the fireplace as requested. I ordered my favorite entree, the seafood curry. Delicious! Service from our waiter was outstanding and the service from the hostess was outstanding. My only regret is missing the entertainment for that evening. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant."

"We are so sad that this once good restaurant has now turned into a night club and is no longer a place for a fine dinning experience. The hostess staff was horrible, the room was so noisy that we asked to be moved. Our waiter started out promising but left us to wait on a large much younger and demanding table. We never got our dessert. So sad to say that after many great visits to this restaurant we will not be returning."

"This was our first time in that building since it used to be Tortilla Flats. We always liked the multiple room setup in that building and still do.
We were very pleased that they offer "small-plate" versions of many of their dishes -- great for those with small appetite. The prawn scampi dish was excellent -- loved the special sauce (pere?). Others at my table were also quite happy with what they ordered."

"Group of 7 ladies staying at a nearby hotel went to celebrate a birthday. We picked Mozambique because it has a unique menu, live music, AND they will give you ride home within a few miles if you've over-imbibed. I like that it's got a great bar, live bands and some social responsibility. Food - mahi-mahi was outstanding. Grilled perfectly with a drizzle of some awesome sauce on it. The calamari peri-peri appetizer was tough - would not order or recommend it. A couple of dinner mates ordered the curry dishes. I tried the Durban Curry (lamb) - very good. Curry and other spices were nicely balanced, nothing overpowered; flavors were melded and complimentary. You can order small size plates which is a great option too. I'd go again."

"We had an amazing experience at Mozambique! I took my girlfriend for her birthday, and we both loved it!!! She had never been, and not only was the food excellent, but the service was also stellar (unfortunately, I can't recall our server's name)! In addition, we had a deal voucher and for a change, the establishment was helpful and accomodating, as though we were paying full fare for our meal (not the norm). This was very refreshing! I would highly recommend Mozambique and we will be back!"

"The restaurant seemed highly understaffed and mismanaged for Easter brunch. It took a long time to be waited on and receive food or drinks, and we had to remind them that we hadn't received everything we ordered. We waited 45 minutes after finishing our meal to receive the check after having to request it. The waiter was nice but we could tell he was very busy. The food was not up to par for an Easter brunch and the crab omelet was not good."

"The bar and happy hour was great and worth a return. However, the food in the restaurant may be a little pricey for what you get. On the particular evening we visited the restaurant, the waiter appeared either overtaxed or not observant. First, we finished our appetizers before he ever came around to take our order for entrees leaving a long wait before the next course. When our entrees were served by other than our waiter, we had to ask for utensils. Lastly, we received two totally incomprehensible checks at the end which were supposed to represent the bill with and without the Travelzoo coupon but had no obvious association. Though restaurant was notified of a BD, no recognition was given."

"We went to this restaurant with friends and family and had the absolute worst experience EVER!!! Our waiter came over took our drink and entree orders and after receiving those items we never saw him again! After an hour and a half goes by and other parties are seated and served their dinners, we asked about our dinners. The waiter said that he was aware that we had been waiting for over an hour but did not apologize or offer any explanation. "This was our first experence at Mozambique and it started off with the hostess not being very friendly or helpful. We had a drink in the bar while waiting for our reservation at 5:30 pm. The bar was loud and dark. We asked about sitting out in the main room to get an ocean view and nothing was available. When we went to ask our hostess to seat us she was rude about telling us we should have checked in downstairs. It was odd especially since they must have first time guests that don't know their drill.
The server was okay.
Probably won't go back with all the other great dining choices in the area."

"The waitress was either all over us or completely ignored us. The restaurant was not very busy as we were eating early as our guests were returning to Pasadena and we had a very early flight in the morning. The selection of wines was excellent and those from South Africa were the best that I have seen and fairly priced. The food is primarily Southern African curry dishes or grilled. We all had curry dishes and the serving sizes of either small or regular plate were generous. When the bill arrived, we were disappointed to see that we were being charged for a full bottle of desert wine even though only one glass had been ordered. The bill was subsequently corrected without apology."

"Mahi was excellent, but Meat Platter (chicken & pork chop)was DRY/tough, even though server assured me it would be moist. Nice atmosphere, but a bit loud for casual talking. Medium entree prices ($20-$38). Convenient bar/music upstairs, but TINY space too crowded to get into (not even standing room), so had to dance elsewhere. Would recommend with qualifications. Might return."

"Group of 8 for dinner at 7pm on Saturday 3/9/13. Reserved table was upstairs with a live band to perform at 9pm in the bar area. Very crowded bar [cover charge]. Music level was acceptable and not too loud in dinning area. Monitor on wall to see band play. Above heat lamps were necessary and nice. Very nice cushion bench seats. Food took very long to arrive (8:40ish). Cocktail drinks were great.
There appeared to be two gratuity charges on the bill.
$3 valet parking. Do not park in the neighborhood after 9pm unless you are a resident with a sticker or you will get a parking ticket.

"Great restaurant and entertainment, but disappointed that we had reservations at 7:30 and weren't seated until after 8 pm. They served us wine while we waited but that cost us an additional $32 (their least expensive bottle of wine)-- something we wouldn't have ordered if we had been seated promptly. We were hoping at the very least they would comp us at least a glass each for the inconvenience, but no such luck."

"we arrived just before 7 for our 7PM reservation. Seems reservations arent actually reservations, we were told there was a wait. Went to the bar for a drink and there was a high school reunion, a mad house. Went back downstairs and waited for 30 minutes before our table was ready.
Ordered the piri-piri prawns app, they came out VERY quick. Too quick.. it was obvious they were made some time ago, cold... not very good. Ordered NY Steak, wife had Durban curry. Steak was good, curry was good.
overall experience not positive due to upfront extended wait and outside atmosphere.. was a cool evening and they turn on every heater full blast, was like a sauna on covered patio area where we were seated.Jury still out on a return visit .."

"This place has consistently good food, very tasty and unique. The mixed grill is the best. Ahi tuna appetizers and wedge salad starters were surprisingly fantastic. the kids' steak meal for only $9 can;t be beat!"

"We have had dinner there many times and always had great service. I don't know what happened Saturday night, but it was horrible. We sat for 15 minutes before we were approached by our server. She looked overwhelmed at the time and we should have know that it wasn't going to be a good night. After we ordered it still took a significant amount of time for our food to arrive. Dinner was good, but the wait was just too much. Our server wasn't very friendly, and we were taking friends there for the first time. Not a great first impression for them. I will try the restaurant one more time, but if the service isn't better that's it for me!"

"I took my daughter here for her 23rd birthday dinner. We ordered an appetizer, salads, main course and dessert. She also had the white wine sangria. Everything was made and presented very well. Service was also great. I love this restaurant and will continue to dine here."

"My wife and I both had the Filet Mignon and it was a very, very good steak with Yukon gold mashed potatoes & asparagus. The salads were both very good, my wife had the wedge blue cheese salad and I had the Caesar salad. We had the banana bread pudding and cheese cake & both were excellence. This place is in Laguna Beach and has a beautiful view of the ocean. They offer free limo service to and from your location, depending on how far away you are."

"While the food was outstanding, the service was completly absent, 3 different servers came to ask me what wine we ordered, bottle water refilled with tap, server never show up to the table for refill the wine, to check on the food. for the whitetable cloth prices on the menu i`m expecting better service, than to pour wine and water my self, and grab random passing server to order anouther bottle or to clean the empty glassware and chine from the table. No tasting glass for the second bottle, just pour into the old ones, no deser was offered and the worst thing was when i acctualy said something to the manager after i paid my check, he seem did not care. not going back there for sure."
