Charlie Palmer Steak - Reno
Progressive American cuisine pioneer, Charlie Palmer, continues his West Coast trail with Charlie Palmer Steak, Reno: a contemporary steakhouse that feels more like a clubhouse wrapped with blonde wooden walls and textured fabrics in midnight blue, deep terracotta and espresso.
In the kitchen, Executive Chef Dave Holman continues the clubhouse feel with neo-traditional steakhouse fare such as Oregon Wagyu Beef Short Ribs with Garlicky Gremolata and classic tableside service of Steak Diane. The trademark eclectic wine list is strong in America bottlings focused on the Northwest and including rare single-vineyard bottles.

"While the food was excellent, the service staff seems disorganized. The services wasn't bad, food was delivered in a timely manner someone was close by if you needed anything, but it was a bit annoying. They assigned three servers to our table. One to take the order, one to server the food and one to ??. During the meal, each of the three servers asked us is we were enjoying the meal multiple times, a total of 7 or 8 times. I get it that they are concerned and want to make sure the food was prepared to our satisfaction,but I would rather only be asked once or twice, by the server who took our order and not his helpers. There was a mix up with the wine and it took a long time to get our wine."

"A well decorated dining area off a casino floor is not the best environment to dine soberly. Food was good in the typical chain steakhouse over salted and over sauced steak cuts but not exceptional or memorable. Good service and very attentive but the particular environment of the casino may appeal to some but for fine dining does not mix well."

"The food, wine and service was excellent. We had requested a table in the back to be away from the casino noise. Surrounding was also very nice until the party of guys in the back room became super loud and obnoxious. This had a ricochet effect on other dinners and they in turn started to talk and laugh louder to be heard. Management did take care of the problem but only after we pointed it out to them."

"Wow! The food was awesome! I ordered the Fois Gras appetizer and almost fell off my chair! It was delicious especially since my wife and I live in California and can no longer get Fois Gras. I ordered the Duck entree and my wife ordered the "natural" prime filet..both were very good. Service was good as well. It was a little on the expensive side but I would definitely recommend this steakhouse.."

"The food is excellent and their attempt to keep the prices down by including a house salad and a side with the entree makes for a very nice meal. All portions are generous and nicely prepared. The Staff treats us like old friends although we only dine a few times a year. The little extras that arrive for the table makes the evening even more special. A very nice wine list that truly includes reasonably priced bottles as well as wines by the glass. The CP champagne is exceptional. A lovely touch was the Banana's Foster prepared as usual tableside - but with an updated preparation of an old, but in this case not dated steakhouse favorite."

Server got our steaks mixed up one was medium and one was rare but was given to wrong person on table. Baked potatoes served with only butter and sourcream. For the money we spent it wasn't worth it!"

"What seemed to be our primary waiter, they work in teams here, had a lot of attitude. He was a bit disrespectful. I like the food here, but I wouldn't return just because of him. There are too many good options on the Reno dining scene to bother with the risk of getting him again as out waiter."

"It's been a couple of years since hubby and I made the trip here.Since our last visit, they have now changed format to a side and salad or soup being included instead of an add on. Food and service was exceptional as always. The only issue was the fact that there was a table with 3 adults and about 5 kids and the kids wer enot on their best behaviour for the environment. Of course being in a casino hosting a conference/event where many children are involved, it wasn't exactly surprising.

"Service was exceptional. Food was plentiful and delicious. The sides are definitely large enough to share and the variety is such that you feel that you have been at a buffet. Our only comment was that the steak were very flavorful but a bit chewy-both the filet and the rib eye. Although we ate in the dining at night, our server was kind enough to allow one of the children to order off the lounge menu. We all agree we would definitely return when in the area."

"Group of 4 guys on for a business dinner meeting. 1 ordered filet medium and it was a little over cooked and it had a peice of grissel in it. I ordered the lamb chops at medium and they cam out also a little over done. For the price level of these items we should have gotten better quality. The truffle potato was great and the creamed spinach was good. Wine was good but not a very good local beer selection and no draft beer at all. Seafood appetizer also good but should have had a little more food for the price per person."

"This was our second visit and we chose to have the same thing, a 42 oz Porterhouse steak dinner for two. The steak was perfect! We ordered a side of fries, mushrooms, and brussle sprouts. The sides we're Okay, not great like they we're last time. The house salad was yummy. The service was very good. They have multiple people serving the same tables, a little weird and not as intimate as one really good server but t it does make you feel pampered."

"We've eaten here many times and always have a great meal. This time, though, Charlie Palmer himself was "in the house," and we did notice an improvement in the presentation of dishes and the service--just much more tip-top than usual. We tried the natural, grass-fed filet mignon (exceptional--grass-fed is so much better) and the Colorado lamb (perfection). Salads and dessert were fantastic--even the bread and coffee were great."

"Very disappointed this time! You used to have the best steaks I've ever had, this time I didn't even finish my meal! The wait time was ridiculous, if my reservations don't get Me my table on time, maybe a complimentary drink is in order? We will not eat there again! Sad to say, but the steak was better at the buffet next door!"

"The staff was absolutely impeccable! Chris the manager that night helped us with our 2 small children, when I messed up the reservations by only putting down 4 and we actually had 6. It was very croweded due to the SCI event and both My family and my friend's family were very impressed. Thanks to everyone, even the kitchen made a special pasta dish for the kids (3.5 yrs and 17 months). The waiter that filled water even took the little one's bottle and filled it with milk twice. Really Really wonderful kid friendly experience, even when the place was packed and overwhelmed!!!"
