Gaslight
Gaslight is a French Brasserie celebrating our 4 year anniversary and our Boston Magazine award for Best French Brasserie. Starting in early spring, we have a wonderful heated patio, which is offset from all traffic and enclosed to create a romantic atmosphere. Inside, we have a full bar, 100% French wine list and free parking. We serve dinner nightly and brunch every Saturday and Sunday morning. We were voted "Boston's Best Brunch 2012" by Boston Magazine.

"It was a very busy Tuesday evening. The dining room was full making it difficult to hear my dinner companion. The waiter was extremely friendly and helpful with suggestions. The only flaw in the service was when a side that was ordered was never brought out during the course of the dinner, completely forgotten. The food was good, well seasoned and perfectly cooked. Very nice wine list."

"Visited on a Monday night with my mother. We ordered 3 mezze (muhammara special, octopus, chickpea terrine) and 1 entree (lamb). Enjoyed every dish, but couldn't pick a favorite from them, which might be a good sign that all top-quality. Octopus was particularly impressive, as it's so hard to get right. Our server was very gracious--attentive, but not intrusive, and wonderful at offering recommendations. (Helped select a great glass of Lebanese red--who knew?) Finished w/ an almond milk gelato which was the perfect mix of "sweet/rich enough to count as dessert, but light enough for the end of a summer meal." Reservation backlog always makes it a challenge getting in here, but hope to return."

"This was my second time eating here, both times with wonderful food and service. We had a party of 7 this time, celebrating a birthday. The escargot, fondue, pasta special, tuna, mussels were all big hits. The waitress was great. She noted the birthday card on the table and brought over some molten chocolate cake for the birthday girl. It was so good and prompted a few more orders of the cake for others in our group. The other bonus is the free parking in the lot next to the restaurant. Where else can you find that in the South End!! We'll be back."

"The bar is a great place to wait or even dine as the service is excellent. The dining room is bright with high ceilings. The service was a little slow on this particular day and it did bother one of our guests. It didn't help that his meal was also incorrect. It was addressed and fixed in short order, but this particular person won't be back. I will be though because the brunch was excellent, the drinks classic, and the vibe very friendly. Relaxing and long dinners here are excellent as well."

"We enjoyed a delightful dinner at Gaslight. We started with cocktails, selecting them from Gaslight's featured cocktail menu. For starters, we had beet and walnut salad and kale salad. Both were fine choices. Dinner selections included steak frites and rotisierre chicken. Again, both were nicely prepared selections. The atmosphere is very French, warm, and inviting. Our server was exceptional, friendly, and attentive."

"One of the best-kept secrets in town is Gaslight's early-bird prix-fixe. Steak (excellent), chicken (very good) or trout (sublime!) with an appetizer (great onion soup and tow other choices) plus dessert and a complimentary glass of wine for under $30. It's a steal. And Gaslight is more fun to be at than most other places in town."

"We recently had brunch at Gaslight with our elderly parents and aunt. The average age was about 86. The staff was very nice and accommodating. The waiter was engaging. I wish I could remember his name. He was wearing black rectangular glasses.
Everyone enjoyed their food. Having the parking lot next door made for easy drop off and pick up. I am looking forward to going back. Thanks to everyone at Gaslight for an enjoyable and delicious brunch!"

"Wanted to go to Gaslight for awhile. Finally went before the Pops. Wonderful drink at the bar and then seated in a booth. Service was excellent and fun. Food was terrific. Had Pork belly and the most delicious tasty potaties for an app, the Prixe- salad, Steak Frites and a wonderful Apple Cake with vanilla bean ice cream and caramel sauce. A wonderful evening. Can't wait to go back. Have already recommended to friends and family!"

"We went to Gaslight simply because I'd walked by and thought it looked nice inside. I had also read some good reviews. We were not disappointed. The service was on point. Not only was our waiter attentive, knowledgable and personable, but the bus-boys (is that what you'd call them?) constantly refilled our waters and brought us fresh bread and butter. The cocktails were quite good. The escargot was yummy. My meal of the braised rabbit pasta was incredible. And my boyfriend liked his dish very much as well, although I can't remember at the moment what he ordered. We both left very happy, and will certainly return. The prices were also very reasonable."

"We had 9am dinner reservations on a Saturday for 2. Although there were empty tables, we didn't get seated until nearly 9:20. No one came to take our order until after 9:30. By 10, still no food. Finally got served at 10:10. Just steak frites (which were pretty good). Overall evening was ruined by such poor service."

"The wait staff great - gave great descriptions of the specials and any items on the menu we had questions about - definitely made a good representation of the restaurant. Unfortunately, the food did not live up to the tantalizing descriptions. I had an appetizer of Charcuterie, a main dish of Ravioli and the chocolate balls for dessert. Each of the courses left something to be desired. It wasn't bad food, but it certainly wasn't something I would travel back for."

"I went there for the first time for Sunday Brunch. The food was fabulous! That was the best part. I had made a reservation and was disappointed to be squeezed into this tiny area where I could hardly breathe. The waiter was not attentive and the service was slow. "I should preface this review by saying I am a regular diner at Gaslight. I find it lively and the quality of the food is good and pretty solidly consistent. That said, I went Sunday night for an early reservation (6:30) and the service was painfully slow. Not the norm for sure. It took forever to get our food. The restaurant was pretty busy, but that's not unusual for Gaslight. They must have been way understaffed in the kitchen. It was an hour between salad and entree. We were absolutely starved and grumpy by the time our dinner finally made it to the table. Food was good when it arrived, but I expect better from a seasoned favorite like Gaslight."

"Had some co-workers from miami visiting Boston -- me and another coworker suggested Gaslight as a good place for them to eat while in the city, and it turned into all of us going out for dinner. The Manager kindly put a table for our larger group together, the waitress who help us was amazingly fun and friendly, despite our antics, and the food made a huge impression on our guests. He ordered the pork chop and was blown away. All of our food was amazing, and half the group who hadn't been to gaslight previously were all impressed from our great drinks down to the nice atmosphere and kind staff. I've never been disappointed."

"In a group of five, everyone was satisfied with their drinks, dishes and desserts. Our waitress took time to explain things when we had questions and made recommendations. We were there for several hours and never felt rushed. Also, helpful was the big parking lot for the restaurant right next door for free. Overall, good experience and I do plan to go back."

"I am a huge fan of this one - especially b/c of the free parking in the South End, BUT you have to make a reso to be sure of a table. One downside: hadn't been there in probably 6 months or so, and the portions have clearly gotten smaller during that time. Still delicious and enough to be filling, but definitely less food for the same price."

"I went to Gaslight for brunch to celebrate my birthday. We had made a reservation but when we got there, the place was packed. Fortunately, they opened a table up for us and were seated quickly. Our waiter was friendly, professional and very capable. It was a hard decision on what to choose from the menu since everything looked great. We ordered the croissant basket which went over big with the table. I ordered a crepe that was out of this world. Even though the restaurant was busy, our server never rushed us and allowed us to enjoy ourselves. A great time was had by all and between the service and the food, I couldn't have had a better birthday!"

"We have been going to Gaslight off and on for years. We love the food and the atmosphere. We do get tired of waiting so long for the food. I don't think it's the waiter. I think its the kitchen."

"Once again, an awesome meal and great service. However, a staff member jacked the lights up and it changed the atmosphere. Our bartender tried to get him to turn the lights down, but I heard him say he walked into a trash can, so it was some sort of safety issue. It was near closing time so we understood. Interrogation lights aside it was great as usual."

"We went early on Sunday night. It was Mothers Day and they were not prepared for the crowd that arrived shortly after we were seated. Service was extremely slow. We had to yell to get our waiters attention. Food was fine, but the slowness was nerve wracking because we had to get someone to the airport, and in general took away from the experience. No one was attentive to our needs."

"It has been a few years since I was at the Gaslight, and the same old problems still exist. They still have done nothing to rectify the noise issues, and the food is a little salty still. The fondue was very good, the staff was helpful, but overall it was just okay."

"It's not fancy but has that perfect combination of casual yet you still get cloth napkins, a proper wine glass and knowledgable attentive service. The booths are very cozy. And the food is stellar. Had the pork hash with fried egg and croque Madame and split with my dining partner. Ask for a bit of their lime aioli to add another level of unctuous brightness of flavor on the hash.
Chocolate beniets are hot and molten inside. It's all good. Next time will try the French onion soup with short rib."

"Two people celebrating birthdays were recognized and honored by the staff - not only by our waitress but everyone we came into contact with. Our server, Kelly, did an excellent job and when a piece of lamb was chewy it was immediately attended to and a replacement dish brought, on the house.
We have been several times and were really made most welcome and allowed to celebrate two birthdays in a perfect way. Apart from the piece of lamb, all of the food was excellent and the wine was great."

"This is a great classic French bistro--lovely food, good wine and cocktails, great desserts. Try the creme brûlée or molten chocolate cake--you won't be dissapointed! I had the special, which was delicious; my mom said her croque monsieur reminded her of Paris. Atmosphere is great, if a little loud; very cool place!"

"Even though we live in Arlington, it is incredibly convenient to just drive down, park in the FREE parking (if you are dining at Gaslight) and pop in for a very civilized brunch or dinner. For brunch, high quality pastries balanced with traditional French-inspired brunch offerings make this a new regular on our rotation. Dinner, again traditional French fare perfectly done at this price point, can be either romantic or laid back. At both dinner and brunch we have seen large groups of friends or families and the restaurant handles both very well."

"I repeat, this is my favorite restaurant! The hostess was very gracious and courteous even when there was a mix up with our seat. The manager was very vigilent and on the ball when a member of my party was cutting the loaf of bread with great difficulty - dull knife. He swiftly took it away and brought back the nicely and evenly sliced french baguette. That is what I call service! They really make an effort to ensure that their patrons have an all-around enjoyable evening."
