Shortly after the original Sant Ambroeus opened its doors in Milan in 1936, a devoted following emerged. This celebrated pasticceria and confetteria became the meeting place for the local intelligentsia, whether beginning their day with Sant Ambroeus’s legendary cappuccino and cornetto, savoring panini at lunch, or spending their evening enjoying refined cuisine in the restaurant’s elegant dining room. We translated these old-world sensibilities of Sant Ambroeus to modern times, and imported our rich culinary traditions to New York. Each of our restaurants remains authentic to our Milanese origins, and we continue to serve our culturally inspired delectables in a casual yet elegant environment.
"Food was Good Annoying thing happened Still drinking coffee and they took sugar away for another table Can't afford table settings for every table what if you wanted more coffee For the price service is average"

"Very popular place that has withstanded the test of time. Beautifully decorated - almost as pretty as the people and the staff! Service is welcoming and warm. Food is great. Prices are steep but well worth it for a terrific lunch filled with smiles, energy and people watching."

"We went at 11 for brunch but were pushed out at about 12pm. The reason they gave us is that they needed to prepare for lunch. Had they warned us when we made the booking, we could have chosen a different restaurant."

"Ambroeus was a nice restaurant. Very pricey. Especially on Valentine's Day. The food was good although you did not get a lot of bang for your buck. Overall, a good place, but not a place to frequent due to prices. Good food and good atmosphere."

"We found the food to be overpriced - $26 for an appetizer salad with mozzarella, Spanish olives and avocado? We went on a Sunday evening so it was quiet which was pleasant and the sommelier was lovely and helpful. His first suggestion was a reasonably priced wine which was a nice surprise. Of note according to my fellow diners was the apricot pastry dessert which received rave reviews as did the artichoke appetizer salad. The food was good but I have a lot of trouble justifying the price-point. A humorous side note, there were quite a few young children in the dining room - lucky children indeed though all very well behaved."

"At our request, Christian (Manager/Sommelier) crafted and walked us through a two tremendous, completely different three-course meals. Each meal came with exceptional wine pairings. His truly passionate approach to this request made an great dining experience into a perfect one. Following dinner, we given two excellent suggestions for after dinner drinks."

"Unless you are known by the staff, do not expect to be treated nicely, despite the overpriced menu. (I presume regulars are treated better) From moment one we felt the desire to leave due to the lack of a cordial reception. We Hag a reservation but were forced to wait a considerable time despite the fact we were early on a Saturday night and the restaurant was nearly empty. The staff was pretentious for a neighborhood joint filled with elderly patrons."

"I would strongly recommend Sant'Ambroeus for its pastry, gelato and coffee bar - all excellent and authentically Italian. This was my second visit to the restaurant, which unfortunately I can't recommend with equal enthusiasm. I had previously had a nice light lunch. However, dinner was a disappointment, particularly at the price. The food was decent, but nothing special, and would not be considered of a high standard in Italy. The entrees needed seasoning and more flavor generally. While reception was gracious, service in the restaurant was inattentive. Stick to the excellent pastry and gelato."
