"While the food itself was good, the margaritas were sugary sweet and the food came out of the kitchen in rapid fire. We ordered appetizers and entrees and everything was served within moments of each other...the entire meal took less than 30 minutes. Would not return."

"Good food. Ordered two $10 margarita's each that absolutely zero tequilla in them. What a rip off of $40. I told everyone in my neighborhood and posted on yelp, ect. so that they can go elsewhere if they are celebrating during the lunch hour. I sent an email to the restaurant to share my experience...no reply - they could care less."

"It was a little hard to find a spot at the bar during happy hour but the drinks and food were worth the trouble. Cool corner couches if you are lucky enough to get them. The food was fantastic, great food from all the regions of Mexico. Extensive tequila selection."

"Food was great. Fish tacos and Torta were great. Beef and chicken tacos looked a bit plain. Love the decor. Server was kind enough to ask whether the food was satisfactory when he saw that some in our party did not finish their food (it was b/c they were full not b/c they didn't like the food)."

"I thought that Mexico DF was a pretty nice place, and with some very good food. The ceviche appetizer was amazing, although my bigger plate, the enfrijoladas, was really kind of boring. Also, they had run out of some of the featured drinks on the menu. I would suggest asking the waiter for recommendations, and maybe telling them whether or not you're interested in something with strong flavors.

The atmosphere was great; the decor was beautiful and they had some amazing art in big digital frames which created a cool effect. The service was great. Even though we got there at about 9:30, the place was still empty, and it didn't start filling up until 10:30 or so, at which point it got quite loud."

"Went for Cinco de Mayo and the place did not disappoint. My only complaint was that the music was way too loud. It was difficult to hold a conversation with my dinner companion. It should be noted that they had a DJ playing that night so it might have been slightly louder than normal.

I left with a happy stomach and a pounding headache!"

"For Mexican food in San Francisco, Mexico DF is one of the best of the higher-end places to dine (along with Colibri IMHO). The after-work scene is pretty typical, but if you're downtown for any reason, it's worth a trip. I love that some dishes come with fiery-hot salsa - and they don't warn you - it's just how it's done.

The ceviches are all terrific, the huarache (typical street-food dish in Mexico) is outstanding, the salmon pipian is really tasty, and the cocktails are fun. And if you just look at the kitchen - clearly visible from the dining room - it's filled with chefs making their favorite dishes! Highly recommended."

"we love mexico df..have gone many times..however, it seems they are definately getting hit by the bad economy. The last 2 times we've gone, it's been EMPTY! We went sunday after the giants game and there were a few people at the bar but the restaurant portion was DEAD..we were literally the only couple there for about 1 hour..The hostess basically doubled as a waitress while the manager handled the food service and credit cards. Really sad..The food was phenomenal as usual. Great guacamole and wonderful quesidilla. My husband enjoyed his steak tacos. We really hope this place doesn't go under. We do love it so much. The margaritas are still top knotch too"

"Mexico DF is a good quality Mexican restaurant with a good menu and very good service. My only complaint is that the food is almost too basic. I ordered two carne asada tacos and what came is two corn tortillas with nicely grilled chopped steak on top of each one -- and that's it. No other garnish or addition except salsa. We had ordered guacamole so I added that but I would have liked to see tomatoes or lettuce or even some cheese. Other than that, I liked the place very much. I also hear they have a happy hour so I am planning to go back and see what they have in the way of appetizers, something I always enjoy with cocktails."

"Would recommend this place for drinks and/or dessert. This restaurant is noisy. So if you're picking a place where you can talk during dinner, I would not recommend this restaurant. The bar area pumps out very loud music. The dining area is better and the music is more muted. However, the people get loud. Was really disappointed in the ceviche. We tried the Seafood Cocktail and California Hamachi, and these do not taste like ceviche. The entrees weren't bad. I think it's best if you stick with the standard Mexican food like tamales and carnitas. Service was great: friendly, food came out quickly, frequently refilled our water, and didn't rush us out."
