Wolfgang Puck's second restaurant opened in 1983. A unique blend of Chinese and French fusion explodes with flavors unheard of before. Imitated but yet never captured to this day this fusion of flavors keeps you craving and coming back for more. The food is served family style, creating a fun sharing experience that brings people together. The trend setting open kitchen where you can sit and eat while you watch the dance of the chefs working in unison. ***If you are interested in reserving our dining counter please make a request while making a reservation since seating is very limited***

"chinois a classic; food remains a constant as does the very energetic noise level; would be nice to have kasuto back in the kitchen...but where was the front??? a minimal human interchange on arrival and NO ONE to say "goodbye" "thanks for coming on by" "look forward to seeing you again" "how was the meal" on departure...pet peeve alert; if you can"t treat me as a FUTURE customer on arrival AND departure and some human contact (or maybe just come by the table at some point) why should I?"

"While the food was very good, our 6:30 reservation was not honored until 7:25. We waited standing at bar which was the pathway for waiters with serving trays. Too many tables were crammed into room making waiters literally serve and remove plates over people's heads. Service was slow. Consider ONLY reserving during weekdays."

"was famous, until I had a free night in LA and decided to try Chinois on Main. I was dining solo, but felt entirely comfortable there due to the energy of the place, and the servers and other staff who were all very engaging. I actually struck up a conversation with the couple sitting just across from me, because we were all so excited by the food.
I grew up on lobster in New England, so it came as a bit of a shock that the best lobster I've ever eaten was here in L.A. -- the lobster with curry sauce and crispy spinach is one of the best dishes I've ever had in my life. The chicken salad was also delicious. Everyone around me seemed ecstatic with their own choices. I'll be going back whenever I can bring my wife with me."

"I have been visiting Chinois for special occasions since it opened. The food is always outstanding, and I am grateful that my favorite dish, the fried catfish, has remained on the menu since the beginning. I was also pleased that on Mothers Day Night - when I know restaurants tend to be overbooked and service and food quality suffer - we were seated immediately, the service was good, and the food as great as ever."

"It was our first time to Chinois, having been to Spago a bunch, and wanting to check out Wolfgang's take on Asian fusion. It was nothing short of spectacular and brilliant, and we are not ordinarily drawn to this cuisine. But we are now when Wolfgang is doing it! We thoroughly enjoyed the Shiso tuna crisps, sizzling calamari salad and Shanghai lobster plate for sharing. The Chinois martini rocked as a pairing. The only drawback was that it is a small storefront, easy to miss and the parking is cramped and confusing (welcome to Santa Monica) with lots of restrictive tow away signage. But as it turns out, they own the parking lot, so park anywhere you want in the small lot or on the street if you can find it."

"When I looked at the menu I thought - oooh pricey. They very wisely do not post their prices online because I would have been scared away. But it is worth every penny. The dishes you get are very large and absolutely delicious! For example, the Roasted Duck was 1) cooked to perfection and 2) you are served the whole duck. Do not think you are only getting a regular sized dish. No no no. The crabcake appetizer could have been the meal. Those were my two favorites dishes: The amazing crabcakes with giant shrimp and wonderful asian sesame flavors. And the roast duck. To live for!!! Our favorite desert was the Floating Island. It wasn't floating but it was a cloud of lemon goodness. We will definitely be back many times"

"We stopped in to have dinner with friends while we were transiting through Los Angeles. We hoped for a evening of conversation and connection before we flew overseas. I was completely disappointed with how LOUD the restaurant was. It wasn't just about the crowd--it was badly designed acoustically. I left the restaurant with my ears hurting and a headache on the way. It is hard to enjoy a proper meal with wonderful friends when you cannot hear each other speak. Literally, we were yelling to hear one another. Very disappointing."

"Had a very nice dinner here with a couple of friends visiting from Australia. Particularly enjoyed the ahi tuna, Cantonese duck and lamb chops. Excellent for sharing and our waiter made recommendations as to what was good for sharing amongst three people including adding a lamb chop. However, we waited quite a while for a new bottle of water and we missed the third bao (served with the duck) and had to make a second request. All in all, this was an excellent meal."

"My family and I go there for all special occasions. This was a birthday for a very dear and old friend. The food is always super delicious and the service is very good. The one and only objection is the noise level. It is overwhelming. I know many people do not mind the noise, but I have through my whole life never apprecited the noise and have always enjoyed a quiet and restful atmosphere. I have always made it a point in eating at Chinois to arrive first and order quickly and try to finish before the noise level gets unbearable. Saturday night is not the best night for that to happen. We arrived when it opened and within fifteen minutes the noise level was to the point where we had to talk very loudly to communicate."

"We have not been for several years and the food is still excellent, but dated. There are now many Asian fusion restaurants in Los Angeles and I think Wolfgang Puck has to update his menu. The dessert menu is particularly uninspired. The service is excellent and the restaurant decor is still lovely."

"Our food and service was outstanding. We arrived 1/2 hour early and they were able to seat up right away. They had a great wine list to select from and both of our entres were fantastic and dessert was perfect. Definitely going back."

"we were disappointed. We went for lunch on the LA Dine Menu.Food was very disappointing.Overly sweet sauce on the tuna tartar.Szechuan beef was not good. better at our local chinese restuarant. Accompanying vegetables were good.The best part was the chocolate fondant dessert and pear sorbet!We will not go back."

"The appetizer (tuna tataki)was ok, not great. Tuna was chewy, not soft.
The red snapper tasted good and the dessert (chocolate fondant) was amazing.
In a restaurant like Chinois I don't feel it's ok to spill coffee on the coffee plate while serving the coffee.
I'm not sure if I would go again. Sorry."

"Ridiculously overpriced and dated, this WP oldie needs an overhaul! Table ordered 1app, 3 entrees and 2 sides - said we were sharing. First entree was delivered incomplete ( no bao with duck) and had to ask for it. Bao was delivered with second entree ten minutes later. Waiter came to ask how everything was...and when we said that we were still waiting for 2 sides and an entree, he told us that since we were sharing, the kitchen staggers food. Huh? Were we asked? No. Asked to have the rest served ASAP. 15 minutes later last entree arrived - still no sides! After another 10 minutes we cancelled sides. End result was $180 for 1 app, 3 entrees and one drink (that had to be sent back to be remade). Awful dining experience."

"We went for lunch during dineLA week. It wasn't long before every table was occupied. The restaurant tends to be on the energetic side. we both very much enjoyed the Tuna tataki appetizer. we liked the cocoanut curry chicken more than the red snapper fish--my wife didn't care for the sauce. For dessert we ordered a flourless chocolate cake and the Yuzu lemon tart--both were spectacular. Both the waiter and the maitre d' remembered us and welcomed us like old friends, which is always nice."
