Cinghiale - Osteria
The Osteria at Cinghiale has the feel of an elegant tavern with white table cloths and mahogany and leather banquettes. It features a large farm table for a special family-style dining experience. The menu is complimented by an over 500 label wine list that features Northern and Central Italian wines. There are approximately 40 wines available by the glass, each available in full and half pours. The restaurant was recently recognized by Food & Wine magazine as having one of the best new wine lists in the country. Outdoor seating is available, weather permitting.

"Great deal of attention and care given to selection of ingredients. Pasta is perfectly Al Dente, salads precisely dressed Vegetables are often the star of the plate. Cannellini beans with a rabbit confit were perfectly cooked. Flavors are subtle allowing natural elements to shine through. Misto of salamis, although of excellent quality (esp. fennel salami) could have benfited from a side of arugala to balance out strong flavor. Wine represents all regions of Italy; a matched flight option with courses would be appreciated however. Cheese selection is regionally diverse, but once again could benefit from some grapes or figs to balance out flavors. The appearance of rabbit on the menu was a pleasant suprise."

"Food was fine and different than the normal so it was a nice experience to have some different fare. However, it seemed to take an abnormally long time for them to reset our table when one of our party had to cancel at the last minute.(how long does it take to remove a place setting?)
Also our server passed by our table very often but the time in between his visits to our table also seemed to be unneccessarily extended. Also main dining room was very noisy and not great for hearing anything your dining companions had to say."

"Lots of energy floods this restaurant but it doesn't wash away the wonderful taste of the food. I had a pasta dish that I will dream about. Perfect portion size, great service. We enjoyed having cheese entree, as most restaurants do not accommodate this.

"The helpings were not so large as most restaurants which was a nice change. The food was excellent. I left with a full stomach but not stuffed as I often do. There is a step up/down to the large dining room to the right. My friend almost fell going down even though he had been advised of the step when entering. This is the major thoroughfare and not easy to see!"

"After a long absence, I returned to Cinghiale a few evenings ago for a client dinner. It did not disappoint. Service was over the top - perhaps a little too much service, as there were two people taking our order! The food, which is why I go there, was excellent. An egg and asparagus soup was deliciously "herbed" and even on a warm night it was delectable. The breads, especially the foccaccia, was terrific in the tasty olive oil we received. My main course of soft-shell crabs was as good as they come, with fresh asparagus underneath. I like this place and I like the owners, but I find that it is somewhat over-priced and no wonder, given the number of service personnel on the floor. A good special occasion restaurant given the prices."

"We decided to spend Mother's Day enjoying dinner and a movie, and got a reservation for four at Cinghiale at the last minute through Open Table. We had heard great things about Cinghiale from foodie friends. The service was notable-- we were joking that each person had a personal server and each course had a different server. The food was delicate, fresh, seasonal, and flavorful. We all loved our choices and argued that they were the best, but the bruschetta with mushrooms of the forest and the rhubarb cheesecake were unanimous favorites. The atmosphere was understated -- elegant, yet casual & friendly. The view from our table was like a bright painting of colorful yachts with flags flying. Really, really good. We will definitely return."

"Cinghiale is one of those very contemporary restaurants where the writing on the menu is better than the cooking in the kitchen. The service was brilliant and the ambiance is fun, but the food is a wanting. Rabbit with porcini mushrooms came without the mushrooms. The cinghiale ragu was dry and tasteless lacking any hint of tomato or red wine. The rabbit terrine was boring. Apparently the kitchen needs to buy a new shaker of flavor."

"Chicken tagliatelle was inedible: overdone, oily meat with no discernable flavor. A collapsed and savorless strawberry zabaglione. Two paired wines out of four that were undrinkable. Appetizer sampler, halibut, and strawberry-rhubarb sorbet were excellent. Menu heavy on red meat. Overall, a disappointment compared to the same owners' great Charleston Restaurant."

"We have eaten here before and returned for a special anniversary dinner. Very nice atmosphere, great wine selection w/ advice, and great service. Disappointed w/ food this time-expensive, small portions and nothing exceptional, in fact somewhat dull. Small bruschettas and pastas were boring; dessert was much better. "Did my study well since it was for my wife's birthday and we loved the fixed price options for 3 or 5 courses at a very reasonable price. Since the owners also ran one of the more traditional and best rated restaurant next door, I knew I could expect quality. They have half portions for the pastas and since my wife like to share plates, it was auspicious. Th flavors were defined but not overpowering. The service was knowledgeable, (they had a preservice meeting to discuss the menus of the day), they were courteous but not intrusive, never felt rushed.. My table had a gorgeous view of the bay. Our guests from NY were impressed and that's not easy to do for New Yorkers."

"Cinghiale-Osteria is my in my top three list for fine dining in Baltimore. I love this place. The food is impeccable, and the fabulously trained waitstaff is the icing on the cake. Every person who approaches your table is excellent: observant, attentive, informed, articulate. The staff notice everything, and anticipate much. They collaborate extremely well. It's too bad this is so uncommon as to be worth noting, but there you have it. Bad service can ruin an otherwise great dining experience, and that's not likely to happen at Cinghiale."

"Cinghiale is the spot for a special occasion splurge. Everything we ordered was executed perfectly. Portions were not overly large but were more than adequate, especially if ordering a multi-course pre-fixe meal. The wine list is very extensive and all -Italian, as appropriate. The wait staff was attentive but not cloying and was knowledgable, particularly the sommelier, who helped us select the perfect accompaniment to our meal. Don't expect to get off lightly in terms of your wallet, but the entire experience was memorable and well worth the money!"

"Easter special was a real bargain...crowds were minimal, tone subdued....a great evening to enjoy the food, service and person you came with! Love skate -- haven't seen it on a Baltimore menu and coupled with spargel (white asparagus)...wonderful surprise as part of the prix fixe menu and the deserts were excellent too. "As always, dinner was delightful. From the prosciutto to the gnocchi to the duck to the sorbetto, the meal was delicious. Service was prompt, server was fun not stuffy. I always leave looking forward to the next visit."

"I can count on Cinghiale to have fabulous food, great wine and excellent service. I love introducing this restaurant to friends. Free valet parking is a plus, although I found street parking with no problem for an early dinner. Although some items on the menu may be unfamiliar, in my experience it's safe to try something new here. I've never had a bite of food I didn't love."

"We went as a group of four young professionals. The menu was difficult to read/understand despite having a translation - many of the ingredients were authentic Italian and foreign to us. The waiters were very on point, coming to our table to see if we had questions. I did not like my dish and put it closer to the middle of our table so the others could try it (they thought it was okay). Our waitress asked if something was wrong with the dish, I explained no, I just was not a fan of it. She apologized and offered to take it back and bring out a new dish of my choice. We were running late to a movie, so I did not order something new. The restaurant removed that dish from our bill as well. Excellent service, I would go back!"

"Given its cost, Cinghiale is good but not great. The food very good. The service is fair. Plenty of people work there, but they spend more time talking with each other than focused on customers. The servers and bus staff are excellent - its the wait staff that are lacking. Foreman Wolf's other restaurants are better."

"The bar located just past the lobby of the restaurant drew a large working crowd after 6 p.m., where it was moderately noisy. After being seated in the side dining room it was much quieter. The prix fixe options offered a great selection of the menu as a whole and paired well with the extensive wine list. We particularly liked the calamari and tuna tartare. The short ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender and melt-in-your-mouth awesome. Portion sizes are manageable and allow you to make it to dessert. The service was timely and professional; the restaurant also offers complimentary valet."

"We were there in Feb 2012 and had an excellent experience. In Feb 2013 we were in the Osteria room and the food and service were about a 6 out of 10 compared to 9 previously. The bar had people eating so it was hard at first to get a seat and we brought 2 other couples to the bar early for a drink prior to our dinner reservations. My wife and I will come back and go to the dining room at the other end of the restaurant next time. However, it is not our first choice now in Baltimore."

"Had not been here in a while, but took my friend here to celebrate an important birthday. We were given a great table and had the best service that I have had in a while!!! he was a professional. The food was and the olives! were glorious and they brought my friend a gorgeous dessert in a martinet glass. The evening was so lovely!"

"First time at Cinghiale & it won't be our last! My wife & I loved all aspects, starting with the charcuterie & cheese offerings. My main course of spaghetti with lobster was very good, but paled in comparison to her big eye tuna selection, which was memorable!

My one quibble was with the wine list, which has an overwhelming number of Italian wines. We enjoy drinking wine, yet are not truly on top of current Italian wines. Our server was helpful & we tried 4 different servings (which come in 3 or 6 oz. sizes). Three of the 4 wines weres good & the other was really good, but it would have been nice if they had a few high quality house options to narrow the field."

"Most likely would not recommend Chingale to my friends as it's too pricey for what you get and the Charleston is so much better ! Went recently to celebrate my Birthday with family of 4.
Slow service to begin with and not as much explanation from waiter as one would expect with such a complicated menu. We went with the 4 courses with wines..over 90 dollars per person...honestly I enjoyed the desserts the best !
My prosciutto which was to be served with pineapple came out with none..when asked for some, was given 3 tiny little pieces and had to ask for more. Told Chingale when made Reservation that is was a birthday celebration..that was mentioned upon arrival but nothing ever done to acknowledge that and that detail not picked up by staf"
