"One of our favorite, consistently reliable places. Brought a friend from Augusta Georgia--she was delighted with every aspect of the meal, from the arugula salad through the ravioli to the key lime pie with coconut graham crust and said she'd come back any time she is in Chicago. Service was timely and unobtrusive."

"South Water Kitchen is great in all ways, but the food shines the brightest. I truly loved the Cubano sandwich with sweet potato fries and my friend had the barbecue pulled pork with regular fries. Both dishes were exceptionally good. Our server was attentive and friendly and the room had a laid back ambiance. It was a wonderful lunch experience."

"South Water Kitchen is a gem. Our food was wonderful. I had the day's special, pork loin stuffed with sour cherries and pistachios, accompanied by sweet potato gratin and kale. Delicious and creative. My friend had the pappardelle with lamb ragout, also delicious and interesting food. The wine list is interesting and different, which is a pleasure. We also shared an appetizer of pierogi stuffed with lamb belly and accompanied by meyer lemon creme fraiche. We didn't know what to expect, but wanted to try it, and found it refreshing, light, and yummy. Same for the outstanding dessert, which we also shared: rosemary apricot panna cotta with lavender cracker. YUM YUM!!! Restaurant is elegant and quiet, service great. Wonderful!"

"This was my second visit, and the second time I ordered and was impressed by the prix fixe menu. Not only is it a fantastic deal ($35 for three courses), the portion sizes are quite generous. South Water Kitchen is a upscale American; comfortable food with a more elegant setting and presentation."

"South Water Kitchen is a nice brunch spot. The atmosphere is old school cigar bar sophisticated. The furniture is more classic than contemporary. The staff was pleasant and inviting. I had the french toast with a side of eggs and bacon. The french toast was Delicious! The combination of the maple whip cream and bananas was divine! I will say that the eggs were a tad bit dried out. When I asked for eggs and bacon, I was shocked to receive an egg and bacon scramble as oppose to a side of eggs and a side of bacon. I would suggest if you specify when ordering those sides. My mother had the omelet and thoroughly enjoyed it. She thought that the portion was just right. We would definitely go back!"

"Wehave eaten here a few times and love it. Fresh, healthy green salads, delicious main dishes that are not overly greasy or salty like most restaurants, just nicely flavored. We had salad and scallops with ginger carrot purree- really great. Cocktail menu is fun, too. I find that it's hard to find restaurants with truly wonderfully, freshly made food, no matter what price range, but this fit the bill. We'll be back."

"Was looking for somewhere to bring some work colleagues from out of town. They were staying at theWIT and wanted somewhere they could walk to. The prices are high and the food tasted like it was warmed-up frozen entrees. The location was great but that's about all there is to recommend it. I think it caters to out-of-towners who will never come back. Pass it up!"

"We reserved an early dinner to make our concert curtain at the State and Lake Theater. That gave us time for a leaisurely walk after a relaxed meal. The food was very good but the scallop portion was skimpy and prices were steep. No rose' x a sparkler but Hendricks for his gin martini so the bar was batting 500. The asparagus spring pea soup was interesting, and the braised bison shank was flavorful and substantial Key lime pie and a german chocalate cupcake to die for!"

"It is a restaurant based in a hotel. From the reviews I expected a lot more from this establishment. Food was not any better than a favorite of mine "Off the Tracks" which costs a lot less money (no alcohol however, if you are in champagne mode!). We had eggs benedict, the 2 egg special and an egg white omelet. The food was not cold exacly, but not warm either. Our server was fine but it seemed she had too many tables assigned to allow her to be efficient. Won't be going back."

"The food was quite good and a fit for the diverse area. The mushroom ravioli was excellent. The wine list could use a few more mid level choices. The costs ranged from almost $60 for a base bottle of wine to $130 for a Freemark Abbey. The desserts were yummy and devised eggs relish!! Our server was solicitous and helpful. Definitely a return if I'm back at the Hyatt."

"Had expected better from this restaurant The oatmeal was cold, and when we mentioned that fact, it was replaced with hot, watery oatmeal. Hard to decide which was worse. The service was rushed without reason. Something strange perhaps going on in this place the day we were there because we had heard good things. "The three J's were the wonderful staff that sat my teenage daughter and myself in a cozy booth downstairs. Jill, the greeter, Juan the maître, and Jair the waiter. The food was superb, I had the salmon and my daughter a salad with chicken. We came early and could see the different types of people enjoying lunch from workers to daters girls lunch out to general guests. We then walked to Macy's (Field's) a couple blocks away and enjoyed a Michigan Avenue walk.
This is a great place for anyone to enjoy a fabulous lunch and see the great downtown Chicago. Sitting upstairs let you look at the passersby on Wabash and Wacker Dr., but we enjoy the ambiance of "downstairs". Kudos to the chefs and the staff!"
This is a great place for anyone to enjoy a fabulous lunch and see the great downtown Chicago. Sitting upstairs let you look at the passersby on Wabash and Wacker Dr., but we enjoy the ambiance of "downstairs". Kudos to the chefs and the staff!"

"We went to South Water Kitchen for easter brunch. There was a prix fixe meal which looked appetizing but we were also able to order from the main menu. The bagel and salmon was wonderful. The eggs and ham were so-so. The waitress was ditzy and kept forgetting us. We had to flag her down to get drink refills. It's in a nice location and connected to a hotel."

"For me, service can make or break a meal. We were greeted with confusion and a little hostility - they couldn't find our reservation and it caused an unproportionate amount of distress. They later found the reservation. Then our waiter was surly and inattentitive. He never refilled our drinks and only stopped to take our order and drop off the check. He was quite put out. I was very disappointed as I had been here for brunch before and had a good experience. I am no longer sure I will return to the restaurant."

"This is a good spot to get a quick glass of wine and an appetizer before the play.
It's avery short walk to all the downtown theatres. We did not have dinner though.
Server was very friendly, and knew his menu. The manager was also very attentive.
I t was my daughters birthday, and they brought out a little gift and a very nice dessert.
It made our visit special, and she loved it.

"We enjoyed this place prior to the renovation and were glad to go back to still be able to highly recommend it. The quality of the service is outstanding, everyone was personable and attentive. The beer/wine/liquor list was very thoughtful and included items not found at other places. We did the prix fixe menu and were not dissappointed.
My partner had the mixed green salad that went beyond the ordinary thanks to the addition of fennel. I had the deviled eggs that looked almost too elegant to eat (and better tan my mother's). Highly recommend the white fish, my partner orders it regularly and is never disappointed. I had the lamb with these amazing gnocchi-like dumplings. It was all I could do not to lick the plate."
