This restaurant in the trendy Distillery District isn't afraid to experiment with dishes that aren't on their menu. If you do want to stay with what is on their Italian and Mediterranean-based menu you can sample some of our specialties like grilled veal chop, seafood pasta with lobster, mussels, crabs, shrimp and calamari. The warm, casual space also features a wine bar with vino from all over the world.

"Delicious food, lovely room with a good vibe. I only gave 3 stars on ambiance because the resto needed staff (eg. host) to ensure the door is closed. People waiting for tables were leaving the front door wedged to stay open: but it was cold, windy, stormy night and we were seated right by the door opening with strong cold damp drafts blowing on us. Had to ask passing waitstaff several times through the night to ask waiting guests to close the door (all but one were helpful - the one had given up and was as frustrated by it as me). Could have ruined the evening, fortunately didn't. Problem could be solved with host managing the door (there didn't seem to one stationed or I would have asked them), or curtains to protect the entrance."

"The food was very good & our waiter had a very good sense of humour, considering how he had to move around the tables. Just be prepared to sit really really close to each other. The tables were so close that the waiters were not able to manoeuver their way in & out very comfortably. And when the waiters were moving around they were partically sitting on our table."

"It probably doesn't help this review that we ate dinner at Momofuku Daisho the previous evening and had an absolutely fantastic meal. At Tappo we felt rushed, the food was just okay and definitely overpriced for what it was. Tappo has an attractive room, but it felt dark, crowded and loud by the end of our meal. I hope the Distillery District gets some more restaurant capacity soon."

"This restaurant is great for a romantic date for 2 and versatile for friends to sit and chat over food and drinks. Service was efficient and on point for a weekend dinner. The wait staff was friendly and cheerful. I felt that the appetizers were better tasting than the main courses; however, presentation wise, all dishes were plated beautifully."

"Lovely space and good food but... Our server mixed up all 4 of our entrees and did not come to check on us until we were finished eating. Service was a little unattentive for the price we paid, was often looking/waiting for our server for food & drink orders etc. Had to ask twice for things a couple of times as they did not arrive. I do not think I will be back as there are so many other choices of restaurants and service is very important to me."

"It is definitely not a quite place where you would have a quite dinner, but the ambiance is vibrant and energetic. The food was great. It is a small place so the tables seem very close together and if you don't get a seat against the wall you are out in the open very close to each other. A couple times so close that the Waiter bumped our table with his behind while serving the table beside us. But other than that, it was nice."

"Beautiful location and ambiance inside the restaurant. The tables are tightly packed inside resulting in the waiters having to squeeze themselves through your table which was not very attractive when you are trying to enjoy dinner. The food was good for sure and nothing to complain about, except I found it expensive for what it was. A plate of risotto with sausage for $25?? Seafood linguine in white sauce for $25?? A small piece of whole fish on some greens for $34? In all, we paid almost $300 for dinner for 4 with one bottle of wine which was $50, and although we had a nice time it was not the worth the cost. I would come back but not for a full dinner, perhaps just drinks or dessert."

"The building is really nice, open beams with modern fixtures. Food was good, and staff were welcoming and friendly. It's a small space though and entrance, dining, bar are all crammed together. The noise level was such that I struggled to hear my friend across the table. People waiting at the entrance for tables, were blocking coat racks, and pathways and diners seemed to be bumped constantly. If they changed the layout to respect diners comfort a bit more, I would consider going back, but would not recommend at this time."

"Tappo is definitely not one of those typical Italian restaurants down the street. One thing I must applaud is their pasta (linguine ai frutti di mare). The sauce has a seafood taste that is smooth and aromatic, and is mixed perfectly with the al dante pasta - not too saucy and not too dry). I love the combination of historic and romantic environment Tappo has. This unique and irreplaceable environment is definitely something that differentiates itself from others making it a memorable experience. The most important thing that brings everything together is my server's genuine greetings. Without a doubt, I will return for a second round!

"We went to Tappo with no expectations as we were first time diners who had gift cerrificates. It is a beautiful space in the Distillery District with a good menu and wine menu. The acoustics of the space made it feel very private, no one was in our conversation and neither were we a part of anyone else's. I found it funny that it was all men who worked there when we went, and also kind of old school because I was the one who ordered the wine, yet my boyfriend was the one to taste it's quality. We enjoyed our evening, our cocktails were tasty, his fish was beautifully cooked and the tiramisu was one of the best I have ever had. Good service too, despite the quirks, it just made our experience that much more charming. We'd go back for sure."

"I had my birthday party here. Loved the atmosphere and service! The staff were genuinely friendly and NOT FAKE! Their romaine salad could have been more fresh but I was very happy with my entree which was grilled salmon (not over grilled and loved finishing touches with mango and other fruits on the side). The interior design is gorgeous. Typical Distillery District vibe with brick walls, high ceiling, and fire place. Can't wait to go back in the summer and eat at the patio."

"Loved the scenery! And loved the food...a great selection of interesting and out of the ordinary choices...and FRESH! But...a noisy restaurant. Needed to scream while talking to my husband. Tables way too close.... Dont know if it was beacuse of the saturday night...winterlicious...we were given about 1 hr or so to have a full bottle of wine and our meal ...felt totally rushed...these dinners dont come by often when you have 3 small children at home... Dessert was served while wine was still in our glasses...the bill was served and dessert was not even started. So busy that were told to "help ourselves "when we ask the guy who took our jackets to get them back.... Would go back...love the district. Our waiter was also great!"

"We had reservations for 8pm. Our table was not ready and we had to wait almost half and hour. (It was really busy) But the manager brought us wine while we waited and the waiters went over an beyond to make sure we were ok, when we sat on our table the service was incredible , food was amazing. Worth the wait. I highly recommend this restaurant."

"A group of friends and I decided to indulge our tasting buds to the seasonally known Winterlicious event. The overall experience was absolutely amazing. The setting of the restaurant is a perfect collaboration of romanticism meets historic industrialism. The ambiance felt very warm and inviting. Our waiter was very friendly, approachable and was well-informed with the menus. The food was outstanding and cooked to perfection. Definitely will be returning to this restaurant again. "Went for my anniversary which also happened to be during Winterlicious. Love the exposed brick walls and beamed ceilings. Enjoyed a 3 course dinner. It was busy, good atmosphere. The waiter was very attentive when at our table and we didn't feel rushed, but could have checked in with us more often.Overall a good time with good food and would go back."

"The only disapointing part of the entire evening was that we booked for winterlicious dinner thru the winterliciouse link listing all the participating places , we selected yours .Went to your web site to book online everything was approved , so we thought we were ok for winterliciouse menu ....only to find out once we were seated that it started the next day... We had to select off your regular menu costing us much much more than we wanted to spend ... it would have been nice if your reservation program would have blocked us or warned us that winterliscious started on Fri Jan 25 so we could have chossesn a different day"
