"Decoration and atmosphere's wonderful, a little nostalgia. People talk with moderate voice. So it really is a good spot for a small group of people meeting tgt. We were a group of six. We had steak tartar and octopus for appetizers. Very tasty. For entrees, pasta, pollock and steak (that day's special dish) were good. We ordered several desserts. Most were okay. Brulee's the best. Also, it's great fun to have the birthday special."

"Those who appreciate classic NYC restaurants--and don't feel they must run to the latest hot restaurant--appreciate Raoul's. And there must be many of us, for Raoul's is always crowded and noisy--and rightly so: the bartender makes a perfect martini, the host is gracious, the waitstaff efficient and pleasant, the food cooked to perfection."

"We enjoyed Raoul's and would recommend to others. It is truly a Paris bistro experience, cool neighborhood, smaller space, tight tables and noisy. That being said, like Paris, people enjoy their food and savor the ambience. Ask for a table in the rear of the restaurant though, ours was out front by the bar, loud as well as elbow to elbow(my wife had her foot stepped on moving through the gauntlet to leave.
Food was very good, read about the steak au poivre and it was a winner. Good menu and wine options(nice range of varietals and prices). Our waiter was top notch and the sommelier very helpful and made a great recommendation on a bottle (at the lower end of the price point range!).
We will definitely return"

"The ambiance + the atmosphere were outstanding . The food was great. I didn't have a chance to try out the wine because Maple mojitos did it just fine for me. Raul's doesn't overdo- nor under-do anything: food, ambiance, service... they are very successful in keeping a perfect balance. I also enjoyed the tarot reading by Elaine:) If i lived in the neighborhood I would be a regular. One of the classic NYC gems, that became rarity this days..."

"Really nice place. Food was amazing. Highly recommend the octopus salad if it's on the menu when you go. It's really tight in there. Don't expect to have a private conversation. But the tightness also means there's a nice, warm, intimate vibe in there. Highly recommend."

"Terrific old world classic set in the middle of trendy Soho. Food is fabulous from meat to fish. Wine list well distributed between high and medium, no low. Only argument is the close quarters and tight fit. Would definitely return."

"All around great experience. We had not been there in awhile and decided to take another couple who visited NYC for a month. They said it was their best meal of the entire visit."

"A classic French, bohemian bistro with great service and a lively crowd. Some fresh, briney oysters, tasty steak frites, hericot vert and Sancerre. . . perfection! Oh, and I almost forgot. . . the profiteroles nestled in a gilded sugar cage with one candle for my husband's birthday? We love Raoul's."

"This is a nice place to go with a date, though it has rather crowded seating and pretty noisy. I definitely would not say that the food was memorable, but not bad."

"You should make a reservation well in advance if you want a particular night and time. This restaurant gets crowded and with good reason. The staff is attentive and the menu well thought out. Try the oysters...We will be back."

"Among my favorite NYC restaurants--and for good reason. The staff is welcoming, the service attentive and professional, and the food excellent. Know that the menu is limited, though there is something for everyone. Hyped hot restaurants come and go: Raoul's is a classic and continues to stand the test of time."

"An excellent restaurant recommended by a friend. Tucked away but well worth a visit. The food was excellent with a good choice and the deserts were to die for. Will certainly be returning on our next visit to New York"

"This is one of my favorite places in NY and certainly the best in SoHo. Great atmosphere (always!) Nice, friendly and efficient service. Cocktails were quickly and properly served. And great food!! Though nicely presented, the Tartare is not the best in town, but the rest was incredibly well prepared and temperatures perfect: new recipe for the skate, delicious and a point spicy. Dorade as in France. Thank you!"

"The food options were creative and the meal was excellent! However, the restaurant is cramped and you don't feel you have any privacy or space to relax. The booths were short of legroom and it was hard to fit in them, let alone sit comfortably. Even thought there are several beautiful paintings hanging on the walls, the restaurant needs renovation to make it more contemporary. All in all, slightly overpriced relative to the total experience."

"Great meal at Raoul's...everything was wonderful. Our waiter so knowledgable about the food, pairing perfect wines with our meals. And the food itself was as terrific as all of the reviews I've read. Signature steak au poivre was terrific, the warm octopus salad spicy and delicious as was the dorade. Celebrated boyfriend's birthday with the sugar cage dessert...yummy and fun! Will definitely come back for more."

"Last experience moved this restaurant much down my list. Clearly popular -- but prosaic. Steak most popular dish and solid desserts. Overall, a yawn. Service truly without merit."

"We really enjoyed our meal at Raoul's. I had their special a lobster risotto which was very good, but my husband had the pan-seared halibut and it was excellent, better than the risotto. The only complaint was we were there in Feb and it was very cold outside, but they couldn't seem to regulate the heating and it was uncomfortably hot - to the point that we couldn't wait to leave. Maybe the summer and spring are a better time to go when the AC is running."

"This is one of the most authentic French restaurants in NYC. Great atmosphere, as Sam Sifton once said “Raoul’s is the place people are looking for when they walk off the campus at State for the last time and make the move east. Steak frites and a vin rouge can — just like that — become the taste of home. “ This is quintessentially SoHo at its best… since the 70’s. Everything is delicious, surprisingly humble and simple. Steak tartare, salmon, salads.. Just go!"

"Although we had a reservation, and I checked in before the other person arrived, we had to wait for them to set a table when the second person arrived. After ordering, it was 20 minutes before bread came, and we ended up having to rush our entrees. The atmosphere is nowhere near as nice as the website or prices would suggest- basically a loud bistro."

"We first starting going to Raoul's when Serge opened it and have returned many times, including just this past Christmas for steak frites. This time as last the staff could not have been nicer but the other dishes weren't as good as the steak frites. My duck was fine. However, the mignonette sauce with the oysters was just vinegar, my wife's Dorade was tasteless as was my daughter's octopus salad and Skate with horseradish sauce. I guess its really a one-dish place."

"Spent a night in SOHO with my wife and knew about RAOUL's through friends. When entering you will see that it seems old but very true to the neighborhood. It was a Sunday night in January and the place was full. My table was ready and there was no waiting. Food was excellent. My one and only complaint was that my poached egg on my salad was over cooked. It didn't have that flowing yoke that you want when it's presented on a salad. Other than that everything was perfect. Staff was great, owner just as nice and the place was fun. Go and try it. Read all the reviews and you won't find one that doesn't say positive things about the place."
