Blink Restaurant
Built as a Saddlery in the 19th Century, this rustic building situated on historic Stephen Avenue is now the location for Blink Restaurant & Bar. Extensive renovations in March and April 2008 combined natural elements, contemporary design and an open kitchen concept to create an atmosphere which is both inviting and elegant. Recently awarded #9 best new restaurant in Canada, by enRoute magazine and people’s choice award best restaurant in Calgary, by Avenue magazine. Blink’s knowledgeable and hospitable staff present a modern bistro cooking style and which draws heavily upon local, sustainable ingredients. Popular dishes include, salt spring island cheese soufflé, beet and goat cheese tart, red wine braised bison short ribs, sautéed wild Manitoba pickerel and Spring Creek Ranch Flat Iron Beef. The restaurant has a capacity of 80 with additional seating at the bar for 10 people and a private dining room for between 2 to 10 people.

"The dollar amount of the bill does not correlate the value of the food. The meal was not that good, fish looked as it was boiled. Great paté though. Place is really nice but probably will go back just for drinks only"

"This restaurant was recommended to us by our daughter and we were not disappointed! The food was some of the best we have had at a restaurant in some time. We really liked the idea of the locally sourced food. We shared the Beet Salad to start. My husband had the Alberta Rib Eye and I enjoyed the herb crusted halibut. Both were delicious! Portions sizes are perfect for us as we are not into huge portions but after the salad and our meals we did not have room for dessert so we went to our concert and returned for a cheese plate and port. Wine list excellent - great selection of half bottles which is nice when there is just 2 dining! Service was outstanding - would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant and we will return again!"

"Our group of seven went to Blink for lunch. It took them over 35 minutes to bring the food. We were starving by the time it came. Portions were extremely small. All of us ate ours within minutes and completely finished our plates. We were still hungry after that though. Waitress did not fill our water glasses. All seven of us had empty glasses and she only remembered to fill them after we ordered the cheque and were almost leaving.
We barely ate and had to leave quickly since some of us had engagements at 1:00. We wasted time on waiting for the food and being thirsty rather than actually eating.
No salt and pepper on the table and the food really needed some seasoning.
I will never use this restaurant again! Totally not worth it."

"Had a wonderful dinner of scallops and Berkshire pork belly while my colleague enjoyed the halibut, which was beautiful and came with fiddleheads - always a treat in my book. We arrived right at the beginning of the dinner seating at 5:00 because we had to write an exam at 7:00, and the waitress was very understanding and attentive and wished us luck when we left. What we really appreciated was the unobtrusive background music. Seems to be the thing to pound your head with trance over dinner these days, but for us distracted, stressed out, slightly ADD, slightly older folks, it is nice to find a place you can still talk without having to yell."

"We've been there 3 times and had the same server every time, and he is great. The food is outstanding, and the prices are reasonable, so it's a great place for a business lunch. We have a couple of vegans that can eat there, so that is important to us, and they appreciate that they can join us for a meal there.
If you have over 5 people, see if the private room is available, it's great. (They put us there without asking for it and it made the lunch special)"

"The food is decadent and varied, the wine list extensive, the decor warm with rich woods and brick yet still modern.
While many Calgary restaurants offer great food and wine, what sets Blink apart is that you also get comfortable seating, from the chairs & benches to tables that are not squished. We had 6 adults that actually sat at a single table for 6 (not 2 moved together). PLUS we could easily carry on a conversation! Energetic background noise and music but lower volume was extremely delightful.
Finally the service was second to none! Friendly, funny, helpful and never overbearing.
This is a must try for any foodie, bring a friend and catch up, you won't be disappointed."

"One of my favorite Calgary restaurants (in addition to the River Café and Rouge). Excellent chef, sophisticated cuisine, friendly and competent staff (a rare occurrence in Calgary) and absence of the arrogance characterizing a restaurant a few doors down on the same street. Excellent wines at a very reasonable cost as compared to most other upscale Calgary restaurants (e.g., I chose a superb Italian wine at $43 per bottle). Staff respects timing issues when going to the CPO after dinner."

"This was an excellent meal, one of the best in a long time. I consider myself a bit of a foodie and this was really good.My partner had the beef tenderloin-amazing! "Our first time at Blink will definitely not be the last. The interiors combine comfort and elegance with no hint of formality or pretense, and the staff were very friendly.
We sat up front in one of the window seats facing out towards 8th Ave, somewhat removed from the rest of the restaurant, but there's the street life and additional natural light. Compliments on a perfect Manhattan cocktail.
Simple green salad and burrata cheese starters - both beautifully plated. The burrata cheese was so fresh with a little olive tappenade, shaved Parmesan and a few Radicchio leaves. Main course, we both opted for the special - rabbit wrapped in proscuitto, with root veggies, and a light mustard sauce. Delish! Deserts and espressos - perfect."

"It was a group lunch for my team from work. Overall we were happy with the experience. However, one of my colleagues ordered medium-well steak, but got a medium-rare in her plate. Because the server only briefly checked how the food was and left without having everybody's response, my colleague couldn't have the opportunity to send it back immediately. Probably, it was because the lunch hour rush, the server didn't come around to check on us as expected. Also, I wished the server advised us it could be a long wait before our main course got served, so we could have ordered some appetizers. "I booked a table of 5 for a business lunch. The decor was contemporary and comfortable and we were seated quickly. The service was great and everyone agreed the food was incredible. The portion size was just right for lunch and the quality and flavors were outstanding. I had the wild caught BC Albacore tuna, with coconut jasmine rice, green hubbard squash, crunchy salsify and warm sesame vinaigrette. It was divine! The flavors and textures mingled nicely, and it was a very attractive dish. It will be hard for me not to order it again."

"I took my friends during The Big Taste event. It was great. I've always walked by so wanted to try it out. From outside it looks really quaint. Once inside, it's got a really nice look to it. Looks modern and simple. We ordered from the Set Menu List. Both the appetizers and the dessert was very good but the main dish was a disappointment. We had ordered Beef tenderloin and it was a really big disappointment. I'd be open to give this place another try for something like another set menu. Or maybe lunch."

"My dining companion and I came for the Big Taste lunch this day. While I have no complaints about the food in general (except my risotto was undercooked) but the service was horrible. Our server was cold and distant. Wouldn't look or address me and only spoke directly to my MALE dining companion. Also, we raised concerns about a $3.25 coke being flat, and the server's response is - it's usually like that. His poor service ruined my meal and if I didn't like the restaurant enough, I wouldn't even consider returning. I will just make sure to never get him as a server again."

"We tried the Big Taste menu at Blink after intending to go for awhile. The service was great. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly. He knew when to interrupt and when to ghost by. He definitely made the dinner even more pleasant than it already was. The restaurant gave a modern loft feel but was cozy and fairly quiet. The food was beautifully done with generous portions and nice plating. The souffle was particularly memorable. The artic char was nice as was the risotto but definitely not as good as the souffle. The dessert was a nice, traditional sticky toffee pudding that made you feel at home. Overall, the menu was well done, the restaurant was beautiful and the service was a great highlight. Definitely worth visiting Blink."

"My fiance and I visited Blink for the Big Taste Calgary special dinner, and welcomed the opportunity to try a new restaurant that we had walked by a number of times. We were delighted by the service, atmosphere, and quality of food. We couldn't stop ourselves from going "mmmmmh" at almost every bite! A great place for a romantic dinner out on the town. This is definitely on top of our list of favorite restaurants, and for a special night worth the price."
