Winner of the Best Restaurant Awards from DIABLO MAGAZINE and THE EASTBAY EXPRESS. Postino is located in a historic brick and slate-roofed Carr Jones designed former post office in downtown Lafayette. Inspired by the traditions of Italy with an American inclination, Postino delivers a seasonal menu using the finest local and imported ingredients. We serve the full menu at bar and have walk in tables available in the lounge and patio. Private rooms and banquet spaces seat 6 to 250.

"Took my Mom for Mother's Day Lunch and was not pleased - first course came before the drinks so they did not have the timing right with the bar, the kitchen and the wait staff. The second course ( this was a fixed menu) , salmon, was dry and the rice was flavorless. Furthermore, they forgot to wrap it up for my Mom who ate less than 1/2 of it which I guess was just as well since it wasn't good to begin with, however that is not point since she asked. Been to Postino many times before and have been satisfied. Not sure if this was fluke so I may return. However with so many restaurants of this type to choose from in the area, it might be a long while before this happens."

"Nice setting in the shade outdoors. Food adequate but not spectacular. Party of 7, waitress made a lot of mistakes--forgot completely about one guest's order, forgot about request for salt and pepper, slow service, etc. Automatic tip of 20% added, but certainly not earned or deserved. Think that's a bit steep for the automatic add on for larger party."

"We are strict vegetarians - no seafood either. We always order small plates at nicer restaurants, and were surprised to find many vegetarian choices in small plates. We ordered Mozarella/Strawberry salad, Grilled Asparagus, Grilled Broccolini, Egg Plant Parmesan, and Penne with tomato sauce (kid). Every thing was done outstanding - perfectly cooked, with right amount of salt. Ordered Rosemary-Olive Oil cake - very unique and delicious. The service was also great - the waiter was very prompt, polite and everything he ordered was delicious. Good selection of wines as well. It is definitely noisy but very kid friendly. Would go there again.
Great for romantic dinner or with kids or even for large parties. Downside is parking!!"

"I have dined at Postino several times. This is the first time I felt underwhelmed by the experience. Starting with having made a reservation and asked for a quiet space since three of us are hearing impaired. We were seated in a large open space with lots of hard surfaces - a hearing disaster, especially when other diners were seated nearby. The food was adequate but not memorable. I am sorry to have had this experience at one of Lafayette's "finest"."

"We visited Postino for the first time and were blown away by the food and service! Everything we ordered was delicious - Scacciatta appetizer, Pappardelle pasta, and Costata entree. We wanted to share the pasta and entree, so our server had the kitchen split both dishes and bring them out as separate courses, which made the meal much more enjoyable. Split dishes were wonderful portion size. Can't say enough good things about Postino!"

"I love Postino! The experiance for the bar and/or dining is always great. You will want to try the daily specials or keep with your favoriate choice (mine is the Costata, Braised short ribs, provolone polenta, english peas, onions, veal reduction)
My husband and I were married on the patio at Postino, then took our guests (around 150) inside for a wonderful party. Everyone enjoyed our celebration, even the staff."

"terrible soup that was sent back by one and was taken off the bill. for some reason the second soup eater wasn't comped for their soup because they did not reorder something else - they ended up just not eating. "Very disappointing... I made reservations for a 40th bday for 7:30. Walked in the door at 7:34 waited for 20 minutes only to be walked to a table that was set for 8. When I got back up to the front they told me that the table was being reset for 12. After I explained that there was no way that 12 people could sit comfortably (10 max) they told me that they had another party paying and we would get there table when they left. After waiting 45 minutes it was clear the table had no intention of leaving so we left. The hostess were very rude and really could care less that they ruined our evening. When I asked them what happened they tried to blame it on the fact that we were late (all of 4 min which I called to tell them)"

"First time dining here. Greeted by two hosts at the door who were particularly unfriendly. No welcome, no eye contact, one looks at the seating chart, says "Table 18" to the other one and we're lead to our table. Food arrived quickly but was from beginning to end rather pedestrian and, ultimately, forgettable. An okay pizetta, a bland Caesar salad, a rabbit ragu that was muddled in flavors, an eggplant entree the size of an appetizer. The food and decor transported us back to 1987. I didn't like the '80s then, no need to relive it now."

"Our overall experience was wonderful except for the receptionist who could not find our reservation--she acted very put out (Saturday, March 2, 2013). We had to show her our reservation through our IPad. I had previously written on Open Table that I would like a romantic table for two, she put us right in the middle of the kitchen dining. It was like she was punishing us for the reservation not being on her books. We were thankful we could prove it on the IPad!!! We told the girl who sat us that the table was unsatisfactory and she moved us to a fireplace table which was very nice..."

"I've celebrated my anniversary and a friend's birthday at Postino as well as come for weekday lunch. I'm a new customer in the last 2 mos. Postino feels "special" and I feel like I've marked the occasion well. Here are the food choices I love so far: beef short ribs, eggplant parmesan, tiramisu, chocolate torte (gluten-free), apple toffee cake, lentil soup, penne pasta, bread basket with fun spread, Portofino nonalcoholic drink, calamari appetizer, brussels sprout appetizer. Was not wild about caesar or waldorf salads. The wine selection and service were very good. I'm so taken with this place that I booked it for a future party."

"Postino is a beautiful restaurant that packs in too many tables and guests. I have eaten in this restaurant before, but this time it was a disappointment from A to Z! As soon as the 4 of us were seated at the table we felt pressured to order quickly, eat quickly, and leave. The server, Richard, was terrible-- most unconcerned and inattentive, wanting only to hurry us along. He could not hide his feelings that we had brought a bottle of wine and belittled our choice of wine with his body language. I have allergies to certain spices and asked him how the brussel sprouts salad was made. I ended up with a dish of boiled, tasteless sprouts without the other ingredients (other than spice) normally in this dish. My friend had ordered this"

"My wife and I went to Postino for Date Night, a follow up to Valentines Day. We had reservations for 8:15, arrived and we seated right away. The main part of the resturaunt and bar was very noisy be we scored a table away from the hussle and bussle. We had the Carne Misto... a must have appetizer and split the ceasar for starters. The bread and garlic butter was the bomb !! I had the short ribs with polenta, and my wife the special, chicken over risotto (a little too basily) but other than the risotto everything was a smash !! out of the park delish !! Recommended a great place to take your date !! price tag was good, the waiter even waived our corkage fee, for a spot of RFW wine my wife couldnt finish !! All in all a great experience !"

"Always enjoy our dining experience at Postino. They are very accommodating. I ordered something that I didn't like and they replaced it with something else immediately. I almost never have something not turn out as well as I would like so this was a rare occasion. The potato leek soup was superb. Wine list is admirable."

"Great meal - got our requested seat close to the fireplace and started with well made cocktails (they carry Boodles gin, a real plus). Terrific new entree - veal scallapini. We requested a cheese plate, not on the menu for dessert and it was excellent. One of our favorites - we've already booked a table for New Year's 2013!"

"This has always been one of my favorite restaurants but not this time. They had several private parties that extended into the main dining room and the noise level was so loud that it was hard to have a conversation. The tables were very close together and nearly impossible to leave the table when we were through eating. The butternut squash was delicious as was the fritto with calamari and laughing bird shrimp. But, the veal piccata was so-so with mashed potatoes that were very heavy on the garlic. Our server was very nice and helpful."
