"The ambience is lovely; the drinks are unique and quite good; the wine list is very good. Having dined here before, I was expecting the same caliber of food and service that I had experienced on our first visit. We asked to sit by the window and were told that the tables were reserved--though one table remained open the entire evening. All of us had steaks, and no one's was prepared as requested. There was no "WOW" factor. The food should be so good that it interrupts the conversation. It did not. For the cost of dining here, the entire experience should be memorable for days afterwards. Sadly, it was not.

"Imaginative menu with fresh local ingredients. Mothers day brunch was included homemade doughnuts and jam, a salad of watercress and arrugula with murani cheese and fresh cherries, an entree choice of morel mushroom quiche with warm lobster and mache and arrugula or filet mignon on asparagus and steak fries and topped with an egg over easy, all finished with a raspberry pavlova with vanilla gelato. The service was attentive without smothering. The ambiance is elegant and understated with dark woods, soft greys and chocolate brown accents. The bar is staffed by serious mixologists and is remarkably well stocked."

"The first thing I ate was a salad that had red onions. From that point on that is all I could taste? Had I known onions would have been in the salad I would have asked not to have them. The salad description did not list onions? The quiche and lobster was almost cold? The best thing was the dessert but again, there was a taste of onions in my mouth. The service and the fact that I got to treat my Mom for Mothers Day made it ok. Not sure I will go back anytime soon.............Good, but I was expecting GREAT for $45 per person."

"Great waitress, a pro. Mushroom soup and Halibut excellent. Calamari with chorizo very good, but my husband's fish entree was good, but underwhelming. Needs more assertive seasoning? Think it was sea bass, had artichoke hearts and other veggies. Deserts to die for. Tab with moderate wine and good tip over $225, so is a special occasion place for us."

"This was my first time at Hawks and I had the short ribs which were fantastic. My only complaint it that they seated us at a funky little table in the middle to dining room that abutted a large round table the waters used to store wine bottles and pour wine into decanters. We had made our reservations several weeks earlier and confirmed it the day before; it seems they couls have done a little better in seating us."

"A comfortable restaurant. Lovely decor, great small bar area. Food is exceptional. Wait staff is very good. Tables are will appointed. Always eat here when in Roseville/granite Bay Area. Prices are comparable for the quality of food. Salads are really good. One way I judge a restaurant is the care of the delicate greens and how they are dressed. Salads are yummy. Food selection is outstanding. You won't be disappointed."

"Our server was rather inattentive and we found ourselves waiting at the end of our meal for a dessert menu and our check. He seemed to be constantly preoccupied with customers at another table (friends, family, regulars?); good for them, not for us!
We have always had good meals at Hawk's, and usually go for special occasions; our last visit was for my wife's birthday. We've had the same server mentioned above on one other occasion; we were underwhelmed then too!"

"Every dish was a treat, but I have to say that the dessert beignets are the best. I'd forgo all the appetizers and entrees and go right to the dessert, except that the tuna tartare, and the duck confit were spectacular too. The waitstaff (Mike) was particularly helpful, explaining preparation when asked, even to the history of the vodka in a signature cocktail.Even though a large party was seated in the nearby private room, the noise level was fine. We've gotten used to area restaurants where you can hardly hear your tablemates due to terrible acoustics. Hawks is an exception to this disturbing trend, the ambience was pleasant, tables far enough apart to ensure some privacy and help in good conversation to go with great food."

"We had Easter brunch at Hawk's. Perhaps it was our fault for choosing a late reservation (1:30), but the dessert we were served did not include the candied carrots as described. We saw it delivered to other tables earlier, but nothing was said when I was brought to the table. We assumed they ran out, but would have been nice for them to acknowledge it.
Also felt the salmon was not warm enough and slightly undercooked.
We've eaten at Hawk's before and this was not one of better experiences.
And perhaps it was because we had two hearing impaired people in our party, but the noise level was pretty intense.
On the plus side, the coffee drinkers (both caffeinated and decaf) remarked on the delicious (and hot) coffee."

"We had a party of 4 for Easter Brunch and everyone loved the main entree (3 had flat iron steak and 1 had salmon). The food issue was that there was only 1 salad option even though it was for a specific type of palat and the main desert item was carrot cake which only 1 person likes, regardless of how well it was made.
The service was good but not great, no complaints just not special.
The table was next to a window with a very nice view but we were in a small room with a large table that had kids running around most of time.
Overall, we understand it was Easter Brunch and the quality of the main course and window view will definitely bring us back. Plain salad and chocolate desert options would have made the overall rating very good."

"We lunched on the outdoor patio overlooking the pond. Our server recommended we share a salad and order one entree per person. Excellent advice. The fresh pea and asparagus salad was the essence of Spring. The risotto was the star of the lamb dish, and the spinach in the pork scalopini really made the dish. The butterscotch pudding tasted perfect, but the coconut gelato lacked a coconut taste. We found great pleasure in our meal at Hawk's."

"From the moment you walk in the door, you realize the service is going to be impeccable. The well dressed host is there to greet you with a smile and escort you to your table. From there the server takes over, taking care of every detail. The food then becomes the highlight of the show. From wild game, to fresh fish, complemented with farm to table vegetables, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The burrata prosciutto salad was to die for. The freshness of a pan seared sole over a creamy orzo was obvious. Homemade sorbets finished our meal. The chef sent out salted chocolate cookies and homemade marshmallows as a final treat. "We went to hawks for our anniversary looking for an amazing meal in an intimate setting, and Hawks did not disappoint! We opted for the tasting menu, and all seven courses, plus the amose bouche were fabulous! When we were told that one of the dessert courses was blue cheesecake (my wife does not like cheese), they were kind enough to accommodate us with a refreshing raspberry sorbet with white chocolate and shortbread crumbles. Our favorite course was the duck breast with pork belly, and the veal and short ribs. The service was impeccable on all levels!!"

"Our new favorite place. We used to always go to Slocum House for great patio dining and special occasions. Then we liked Mulvaneys a lot-until our last visit there on Valentine's Day. Service was simply lousy. Hawks offers great service and great food. the patio looks excellent although we havent tried it yet. Highly recommended- although not inexpensive. Guaranteed you get what you pay for though! Well worth it!"

"My wife and i ordered the 5 course tasting menu together with the wine pairings. While the food was outstanding (when it arrived), and the wine pairings nearly worked, the service was less than stellar, and the noise level was painful. The kitchen was apparently a bit overwhelmed by the crowd that evening as the dishes came out unevenly. Specifically the ceasar and mushroom soup came out well after the wine for each of those courses was poured. The server was hard to understand in the din especially since she seemed to swallow her words and turn away when presenting the dishes. I did appreciate her recommendation that we try again on a weekday for a more quiet experience. We'll try that next time before crossing Hawks off our list."

"We had a group of 9, the only complaint was that our food all had various temperatures when served. I personally had the veal, the flavors, etc were fantastic, it should have been served hot though, my wife had the short rib and I could actually see the steam, so it was clear my food sat."
