"I've been here for lunch. Great burger & fries with a chilled draft - Yum. (They need to add yellow mustard as a condiment)

Recently had dinner, friends and wife found it to be very good; Halibut & Lamb Shank. I had Petaluma chicken - just... ok or I could have returned to the kitchen as blah. The entree salad was exceptional! Service 2 star. Pricey. The restaurant was busy with a large group. Maybe they should have added staff for that event."

"My wife and I dine here several times per year. I never feel taken for granted and always have a great dining experience. I'm treated like a valued customer whether I spend $200 for an elaborate multi-course meal with friends or just $20 for their awesome happy hour drink and snack specials."

"Our Valentine's Day meal was incredible. Every one of the four courses was delectable and presented as artwork. The atmosphere was romantic, yet alive and it felt very much like a special occasion location. The only negative aspect was our server who had a kind of know-it-all haughty attitude. We ordered the pairings of wine with each of the four courses. He served the first wine perfectly; for the second which accompanied a delicious velvety soup, he served a syrah while the menu which he didn't seem to be aware of specified a viognier. The third wine was fine, Chardonnay with lobster and cab with the most tender filet ever. We saw a vouvray listed for last course but received nothing, for $35each for pairings.Disappointed at the end"

"We have been to Hawks before and have enjoyed the food and restaurant staff.
Close to home, quiet, never rushed for an enjoyable dinner.
This time my husband's cod was "mushy" and returned. He was then brought a very nice piece of sole. The waiter commented that the chef had recently not been pleased with the cod. My husbands thoughts were " then why keep it on the menu?"
I had the steak med-well, and it was served well done. The outside was like charcoal.
We will go back and sincerely hope this was just a one time disappointment.
Overall, I'd still give Hawks an 8 out of 10 for a very nice dining experience, based on our previous visits."

"The filet steak was the most tender and perfectly cooked I have tasted anywhere in the country. The ahi tartar with crostini was the perfect appetizer. From the amuse bouche to final Hawks Bar house-special desert we could not have asked for a better dining experience for our 36th anniversary."

"Very tasty entrees. Short ribs were delicious. Food server took too long in between entree and dessert menu causing us not to order dessert due to time constraints. "Very good restaurant. Probably the best food I've had in Placer County. They gave us a very nice table. Wait service was ok, could have been a bit more polished and timely. We had some decent ceaser salads. I had the Black Cod which was just excellent. Lemon Souffle desert was terrific. It's not Napa, San Francisco or Europe, but it's the best we have in Placer."

"WE HAD A PARTY OF 4 AND WE WERE SEATED PROMPTLY. AFTER WE RECIEVED OUR MENUS IT TOOK A LONG TIME TO PLACE OUR ORDER. FOR THE PRICE ON THE MENU FOR THE SHORT RIBS, I WAS IN SHOCK WHEN ONE (1) SHORT RIB WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PLATE WHEN SERVED. THREE STEAKS WERE ORDERED AND WERE COOKED CORRECTLY AND TASTY, HOWEVER, I'AM STILL PERPLEXED AS TO WHY MY STEAK WAS CUT IN HALF LATERALY. I GUESS TO MAKE IT LOOK BIGGER. I AND MY FRIENDS DISCUSSED THE WHOLE EVENT AND DECIDED THAT WE HAVE NO REASON TO RETURN TO HAWKS."

"Our first-time experience was for "Sunday"supper. The $35 fixed-price, four-course menu features an entree of the week. Located in Granite Bay, 30 minutes from Sacramento, in a small up-scale strip mall, the restaurant interior is sophisticated, subtle, and tasteful. The service was attentive, without being overbearing, pleasant and consistent throughout. The broth-based soup was rich in flavors - beef, vegetables, snips of pasta - excellent. The salad of mixed greens was simply dressed. The entree of meatloaf, tiny succulent brussel sprouts, and mashed potatoes represented what "comfort" food is supposed to be! The comfort continued with the chocolate bread pudding topped with a caramel ice cream. We will return with friends. Yum!"

"We moved to Granite Bay from LA and the one thing we really missed was the food. After going to Hawks we have to say we miss the LA food scene much less. Hawks is by far the best restaurant in the Sacramento area. The food is amazing, even dishes I usually wouldn't like are delicious at Hawks. The decor is very stylish and hip while also being extremely romantic. The owners, managers and wait staff are always friendly and on it. There is really nothing I can say that is bad about this place. The menu changes with the seasons which is always a nice treat because as a regular it means I am always finding new favorites on an ever changing menu. If you haven't been to Hawks you are a missing the best food in the area."

"We were celebrating two birthdays in our group of six. It was Fried Chicken Sunday, and it was not as good as we expected. Some of the chicken pieces seemed a bit overfried--the crust was real dark and dry. Also, kale was served, and no one liked it except for me. We felt they should have had something more "all American" to go with the fried chicken. Also, we thought mashed potatoes would have been a good addition, along with the tasty cornbread. The cornbread was excellent. The chef's appetizer was excellent -- some sort of eggnog (not sure of its exact name), and the bean soup was delicious. The chicken and the kale were the primary disappointments. We will not come back on a Sunday."

"we'll go back on a non-holiday - when the persimmons are on the trees at nearby OTOW ORCHARDS - to sample what reads like a delicious regular menu .. xmas eve we had a fixed price menu - sadly underwhelming .. amuse bouche sweet as dessert - why? i didn't want to ask at the time to fluster our already seemingly stressed waitperson .. the rest of the meal needed just a little something to take it to heavenly heights - a squeeze of citrus, a turn of the peppermill .. on the crab salad, the consomme with truffled agnolotti .. our entrees of pan-roasted alaskan black cod and guinea hen ballotine were good, not memorable, quite boring .. perhaps the chef has a more timid palate than we have?"

"Food & service were excellant - we were seated near the entry/exit to the kitchen so the traffic was extremely heavy making it difficult to enjoy the company of our quests. the tables against the wall were more peaceful - but those tables are limited in number. there are a lot of servers & bussers so the passing bodies were plentiful. next time i will request a peripheral table."

"We once frequented Hawks. Last year for Christmas Eve we had the most magnificent meal with wine pairing. As a result, we decided it was the place to be again this Christmas Eve. We were sorely disappointed. The food was comparatively boring. Very basic and unimaginative with prime rib, cod, and hen for choices on a fixed $65 menu ($100 with wine pairing). We checked out the on-line menu, and noted the wines that were being paired. When we arrived all the wine selections had been changed, with no explanation. Our waiter was barely at our table, leaving us feel like he was merely there to deliver an already prepared menu. After this experience we are questioning Hawk's consistency. This was definitely not a $250 meal for two!"

"We are always amazed at how "spot on" every trip we make to Hawk's is. They really have everything down.....I highly recommend this fine dining experience to everyone, or just hang out in the bar, do appetizers and drinks. Susan"

"We enjoyed our lunch and plan to go back. The menu was not large, but the food choices were diverse. Our waitress forgot to bring us ketchup twice, and she actually never brought it. Otherwise, it was a very pleasant experience."

"I have been to Hawks many times and have enjoyed the food and upscale atmosphere. Unfortunately, the service has declined to the point where the owner, Molly, should seriously consider whether the present staff can meet the restaurant's increasing popularity. On my last dinner occasion, the staff was overwhelmed. Consequently food took forever to reach the table. Staff was inexperienced, looked haggard and unfriendly. I spend alot of money entertaining and the price tag for the meal was just not worth the frustration. On a Sunday Bruch many staff members did not show up so the waiters were clearing table and again seemed surly and overwhelmed. I understand the Molly has discontinued brunch which is a wise move. Staff need more training!"

"We have been to Hawks a few times already and our latest experience certainly did not disappoint. The Kitchen made a vegan meal for me which I very much appreciated given that all regular menu items contained seafood, meat or dairy. It was a delicious Israeli couscous with a variety of seasonal vegetables and incredible flavor. Everyone at our table cleaned their plates. The wait staff is so friendly, as is Molly Hawks who came out to say hello to guests with her darling daughter. I am thrilled to have this little gem in our neighborhood."

"My girlfriend and I went there for our anniversary. Ahi tartare was our appetizer. Very well seasoned. Cumin and corriander were great flavors with the lemon zest. We then went with the Halibut and Short Rib plate. Fish was slightly overcooked, but taste awesome. Short rib, potato puree, and leeks were great. Then had the veal duo. Medallions were excellent, shank left more to be desired. Needed to be seasoned. Risotto Milanese was perfect. Finished with trio of gelato. Coconut was a bit too gritty for me, but mango and guava were spot on. My girlfriend grew up in Hawaii and said they tasted like fresh fruit over there.

Service was good. Cody was a cool guy who seemed to handle himself well."
