Since its opening in 1993, Boulevard restaurant has been hailed as one of the best restaurants in San Francisco. "We were visiting San Francisco and tried Boulevard based on book reviews, plus local recommendations. We had a fantastic meal with excellent service. Our waitress was efficient and very personable. The only complaint we had was the bar service prior to our seating. The bartender was a little surly and the drink mixing was sub-par. Overall, we would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting San Francisco."

"We enjoyed the classic blvd and the food was very good (not excellent and certainly overpriced). Unfortunately, our waiter "Bill" was impatient, derogatory, dismissive and borderline rude. I took my friend and her mom out and it was almost embarrasing. He gave the important that he was too busy and we were not worth his time. I will yelp him later also but we wont be going back to this restaurant, overpriced, badservice and just okay food."

"I took my wife here for her birthday since we've both never been before. The Service was excellent. We started with the duck breast which was very tasty and juicy. I ordered the Osso Bucco and my wife ordered the New Zealand Lamb chops. Although my portion was a bit smallish, I was full by the end of the night. However, my wife's lamb chops were tasteless. No salt, no anything. She gave me half of her portion and the very last chop was extremely salty. That was the down side of the food."

"New to the bay area and received a gift certificate to Boulevard from some friends. We decided to use it on our anniversary and our reservation was at 6pm on a Sunday. We were seated immediately, a very nice, romantic table for two -- we both sat on the same side of the table. We ordered the fois gras and the mixed greens salad as starters, which were both excellent. The fois melted in our mouths and was the highlight of our meals. We proceeded with the lobster and the filet, based on our server's recommendation -- both of which were superb. We finished with a dessert that included a huckleberry sauce. It included a piece of milk chocolate with "Happy Anniversary" written on it. Yum! What we will remember is the fois gras!"

"This was my 5th time at Boulevard, and the second time we were disappointed. We made reservations 30 days ahead and requested a nice table, but were not pleased where they seated us. This has happened before. Our server was very nice, but the choices on the menu were limited. The portions are small, and the prices are high. I ordered the scallop appetizer and it looked like one scallop sliced in half to appear as two. The wine list is expensive, and served too warm.
During my first two experiences at Boulevard we were very impressed by the food. They have no problem attracting customers. They are always busy. Next time we will go somewhere else. There are many great restaurants in the area. We like some of the new ones south o"

"Three of us went and sat at a table that was wonderful and comfortable. We had a beautiful view of the bay and Bay Bridge and the food and service were wonderful. We ordered three appetizer and three entrees and 2 deserts. The food is full of flavor and we matched wine's right to the food with the guidance of our wonderful server. He walked us through the choices and encouraged us to try things we would not have normally (how we like it) so we did and the food was wonderful."

"It's easy to see why Michelin awarded a star to Boulevard. I can't think of anything to criticize. This was a perfect lunch experience. The food (slow-braised pork cheeks) was delicious, service was professional (a server- not mine - walked by, noticed my iced tea glass wasn't full so she toppped it off) and I had a view of the traffic-less Bay Bridge. Makes me wonder what a restaurant has to do to get two or more stars!"

"Overall the place was very good. The food was superior and we felt like judges on Iron Chef. The view of the bridge was excellent and the time of day we eat (18:30) was perfect for the lighting. The only odd thing was the forks we were given to eat with, they seem over sized and awkward to handel. We will definitely will return when ever we can."

"We were solidly impressed from the moment we stepped in the door. from the first person we interacted with to the last, everyone was professional without being overly formal (no oddball uses of the third person as in, "how are we enjoying the wine tonight?), friendly without being your best buddy, and on-the-ball without being annoying. service is a key to a great experience, and this place has it down pat. of course the food was also outstanding, and our server was fantastic. highly recommended!"

"Fabulous - the always incrediable menu is fresh, creative and changes often. The crab salad starter, foie gras is wonderful. The starter plates and entrees are all delicious. I've never had a bad bite of food here. We love Boulevard and go very often. It is always excellent with a fantastic helpful staff. Reversations are a must."

"Food was excellent and we had the best server I have ever had, a gentleman who is a native of SF and knew food and wine and was perfect at his timing and attention. Only downside was the table we had (17) was noisy but it was near the open kitchen so I did enjoy watching the chefs but it was hard to hear my wife and occasionally several of the staff would stand right next to us and talk which was annoying."

"The food was quite good and the atmosphere was delightful. Service was above average. The wine list could have had a few lower priced options - it was a little over the top. We spent $85 for a bottle of pinot nior that I can get at the liquor store for $31. All in all a very nice, if not somewhat overly pricey, evening."

"One of the best dining experiences we've had...fantastic food, literally one of the top 5 meals I've ever had! The service was exceptional...very friendly, extremely competent. "We had an excellent experience at Blvd. We location and atmosphere of the restaurant make it very enjoyable. The food was also very good. We really enjoyed the foie gras off the appetizer menu. Our main courses were just okay (swordfish and lamb), each having components we thought didn't really go with the main dish. Dessert was amazing - ice cream cookie sandwiches with gingersnap cookies and pumpkin ice cream. Wine list is expansive in both selection and price. Service was perfect! Overall, a great night out in the city."

"Wonderful dinner! I ate here with my grandmother and her friend, both of whom are a bit hard of hearing. We had requested a quiet table, and the wonderful staff sat us all the way in the back with an amazing view of the bay bridge. The back of the restaurant was perfectly quiet and we were able to easily converse, hearing problems and all."

"I often dine at bouelvard as it has wonderful food I was very disapointed the way I was treated when I took my manager from out of town in for lunch.

I was very disapointed at the way that i was treated for lunch.
I made a reservation for lunch and when I was seated with my manager who came in from Minneapolis they sat us at a tiny corner window table next to the front door, about 70% of the restaurant was empty and there were many many tables available for 2 we were in and out in about 80 minutes due to it being a business lunch.

You could see nothing of the restaurant since we were stuck in the corner, i was horrified as i have made reservations on the same day (this time i did not) and have been seated in a nice area."

"The restaurant itself is amazing and has a great feel about it. Unfortunately the bar has very, very limited seating and less standing room. Those waiting to be seated overflow from the hostess area into the dining room. We were unfortunate to have a the front corner table and ended up being dwarfed by a couple groups waiting on their own table. To top it off they made for an obstacle that our waiter didn't feel compelled to overcome, so our service was disappointing, slow and intermittent. Sad to say, I can't recall the food."

"We took a 6:15 reservation which I would never recommend. We felt rushed. Our first course arrived before the wine and we were completely finished in less than one hour! We should have spoken up when the first course arrived so quickly so that was our fault. But in such a nice and expensive restaurant I think it should be up to the wait staff to be sensitive to rushing people through.
The food was good but not great. The wine was excellent. The dessert flavors were not complementary. Having been there before our expectations were high so we were really dissapointed.
Lesson learned:Dont't take an early reservation if you want to enjoy your meal and the ambiance of the restaurant if it is a "popular" place."

"The food was very good, but far from outstanding. Since this was my first visit, I was surprised how large the restaurant is and, as such, how bustling and, yes, noisy it is. It seems to be a favorite of San Franciscans, but I don't think I'd return there. "Service was impeccable. Waiter anticipated our needs - although missed an opportunity to suggest ordering a full bottle of Billecart-Salmon when 3 of the 5 of us ordered individual glasses of it from the 'by-the-glass' list. lobster with chanterelle risotto was delicious. sancerre was perfect with the lobster. took a taste of the pork chop - excellent. perfect table at the window. noise level fine even though we were sitting near other large groups. hostess very welcoming -table ready when we arrived; bike check for a bike-commuting colleague, car waiting for us when we were done. No rushing us out the door. Valets very amiable and service-oriented. great outing - will return."

"On our recent SF trip, Boulevard was among our options for its rep and reviews. It made the cut because it was close to our hotel. On arriving for an 8:45 p.m. reservation, the place was packed and loud, and the attire was mixed. We wanted some fine dining; not a pub crawl. Then we were seated and, in time, our filets served, and we forgot the room. Those filets might've been the best we've had anywhere, and we're no strangers to elite kitchens. Buttery smooth cuts without fatty richness. And the dessert? Something to elicit delicious moans with every spoonful: a thankfully petite huckleberry tart with halved mission fig and caramel ice cream drizzled with I-don't-remember-what. Sigh. Boulevard's on my favorite-places list."

"The dining experience was great, this was our third time at Boulevard in the last year. The service was great and the food was outstanding. Our lunch consisted of the scallop appetizer, heirloom tomatoes and buffalo mozzarella salad, beef bavette as our main course and we sealed it off with the creme brulee dessert. We had to return after five for the dinner hour to complete our dining experience. We simply could not leave without having the foie gras with a glass of sauternes. In all, loved the food as well as the environment and service!"

"I was disappointed because the food and service were not as good as my last visit to the restaurant 6 months ago when I had a wonderful meal and experience. Also, it seems that the prices have creeped up, especially the appetizers. There was a service glitch with a long delay between the first course and main course, upward of 15-20 minutes with no explanation or apology from the waiter. The food was good, but nothing special for the prices being charged. However, the restaurant has a very nice atmosphere. There was a good choice of wines by the glass at reasonable prices."

"Unfortunately the evening was painfully slow. Not sure why everything went so poorly.
3 Tables seated after us, had appetizers, entree and dessert and were long gone before us.
We passed on dessert mostly because we did not want to spend another half hour waiting for it.
That said, the food was excellent and our waiter was nice enough so we did not complain
on our way out. However, we should have let them know that we thought 2 1/2 hours for
2 course dinner was ridiculous, especially with no apologies for the long delays.
There are too many wonderful restaurants in SF to bother going back here."

"We always love to romantic ambience of Boulevard and our visit to the restaurant this time was no exception. We arrived way early and enjoyed a kir royal followed by a nice glass of wine before checking in for our reservation. The restaurant was lovely, the service kind and caring, and the food delicious. All in all about 2.5 hours on a lovely San Francisco evening. Memorable."

"Our meals were very elegantly and creatively presented. The portion sizes are very small, the prices are high. Perhaps, considering that this is a San Francisco restaurant, the prices might be just average for a high end dining experience. I orered lobster but the dish was not a Maine lobster that I would have expected elsewhere. Very small tail.....it seemed to be the size of a baby lobster, if there is such a thing! The dungeness crab salad was exquisite as was the Pork Prime Rib.

The tables are too small and too close together. We could hear everyone's conversation around us.

Service was excellent. Very attentive waiter."

"Great service and very good food but seriously overpriced for this economy. Also the kitchen was clearly working with tight portion controls in place, again at these prices serving half a quail is really unforgiveable. My fifth time eating at the restaurant but unless someone else is paying too many other great options in the Bay Area. Also the vent system in the kitchen was not keeeping up as the evening progressed."

"Boulevard is one of the most consistent restaurants is San Francisco. I wouldn’t say that the food is out of this world (but again I am not an average person as food goes) but is pretty good. The atmosphere is always great. The service is always very good (and sometime they catch such small details that it is almost impressive). This time we had to wait for a sommelier for about 20 minutes but he sure made up for all that waiting.... and in my book - the result is what really matters – so no complaints. I strongly recommend Boulevard."

"Really disappointed in the food. I'm a chef, love, love, love the cookbook and everything Nancy and staff have done to innovate California cuisine but honestly, and I'm sad to say, Everything fell really short. The very first bite of scallop and chorizo was sublime and then it was downhill. The Squash blossom was bland and the tomato sauce was flat. Main courses, chicken and fish were both just....well, dull. No real accenting flavors, void of season, and just kind of a bummer.
Should've gotten dessert but I'm not used to paying $150 for lunch so i neglected it. Had to pay $27 in a lot for parking too cause the valet was no where in sight. All in all I was fine cause I've always needed to experience this restaurant but now I won't return."

"This was 3d time we have gone to Boulevard in last 3 months and each time was outstanding. Food and service is just unbeatable. We also wanted a special table and were happy to get it. Only down note was we were clearly shepherded along to get us out before the "second seating" arrived....this is first time we felt a little hurried (but also the first time we visited on Saturday, understandably the busiest night of the week). Still we are adopting this as a jewell to return to."
