Boulevard
Since its opening in 1993, Boulevard restaurant has been hailed as one of the best restaurants in San Francisco. Created in partnership with designer Pat Kuleto, the elegant, yet warm and welcoming interior of Boulevard is the essence of the Belle Époque style. It is a glorious setting for Chef Nancy Oakes hearty, flavorful, beautiful cuisine. American regional flavors, French influenced style, enthralling design, form the entire experience at Boulevard. Located in the heart of the San Francisco's revived waterfront area, the historic Audiffred Building is the ideal home for Boulevard. Among many wards received, Boulevard was proud to announce being granted the James Beard Award for Outstanding Restaurant 2012.

"I was very disappointed because our experience was not nearly as good as when we last visited. Had not been to Boulevard in years and this visit our server was unfriendly and inattentive. He visited our table to take our order, his every stop by our table was hurried and perfunctory. He seemed extremely overwhelmed and annoyed by our questions regarding preparation of the dishes. Part of the past enjoyable experience at Boulevard was the excellent service. The food is still very good, but there are many excellent restaurants in San Francisco and there is no reason to go to Boulevard when the service is not outstanding, especially in the price range of Boulevard.

"We had reservation & we arrived 10 minutes early. Host made us wait for another 10 minutes after our reservation time without even letting us know that they are having some trouble with the seating. Staff looked like they were stress and not very friendly at all. Probably would not go thee again."

"This place, albiet a bit on the pricey side, absolutely deserves its reputation as one of the best restaurants in San Fran. Every dish we ordered was amazing and even the gluten free member of our party (due to extreme allergies) was totally satisfied with the choices as over 1/2 the menu was GF or could be altered slightly. With a great view of the Golden Gate Bridge and warm atmosphere, I will visit this gem if a restaurant again."

"This restaurant was recommended by a friend and definitely was worth every bite! The food and service were exceptional (ask for Jeff). Both my husband and I had the Filet and it was "melt in your mouth" delicious. We also had the dark chocolate dessert with the lemon sorbet, this was an incredible delight for the palate. Definitely will eat here again when we visit San Francisco again!"

"We went on a Friday night. We had a 9:45pm reservation but when we arrived a couple hours early to relax at the bar, they had our table by 8pm. Service both at the bar and table was high end. The Filet Mignon was expensive but large and deserves to be highly rated. The ambience is both romantic and a bit energetic. A good combination. Overall, it's a top end restaurant."

"We arrived for our reservation at 5:30 -- the woman at the door didn't look up or acknowledge us -- she was busy putting pens in a little wooden cigar box. Finally, she looked up and said "do you need someting?" We advised of our 5:30 reservation, and she said, "well we're just opening . . ." How rude. Seriously. Her behavior set the tone for the entire evening. The waiter was good, but kept hounding us for an order even though we had just started a cocktail . . . Oh well. We used to come frequently and touted Boulevard as a must-visit restaurant. No more. I never leave reviews on restuarants, good bad or otherwise, but couldn't let this experience go because we were so just absolutely disappointed."

"We enjoyed our meal very much. The food was outstanding. The scallop appetizer and the fish (halibut and swordfish) were wonderful and the portions were generous. The wine list was amazing with many fine selections by the glass. Service was nice but wasn't as attentive as I thought it should be for a $200 (for two) dinner. The noise was louder than I would have liked but because we had a table off to the side it wasn't overwhelming. While we enjoyed the meal we probably wouldn't go back, preferring to try another place."

"Very busy restaurant and an early rez seems necessary, even for our rather late dining. But once seated at our table away from the busy bar and with a view of the now-lighted Bay Bridge, my wife and I felt very at ease and un-rushed. While perhaps not what you would call a romantic place, we found it easy to share conversation of a personal nature. Food and wine selections were ample and what you would expect, and the service and presentation surpassed our rather high expectations. Service was attentive and very professional, and left nothing to be desired. Overall, a very pleasant dining experience."

We started off sitting at a small bar table behind the bar and once we were able to get a seat at the bar, our amazing bartender was wonderful and made great recommendations. "The food was very good. The service was terrible. It took almost 3 hours for dinner for a party of 4 and that is not because we eat slowly.
The restaurant was over-filled because there was an ophthalmology conference in SF. The noise level was very high and conversation was difficult.The experience of dining at Boulevard that evening was extremely unpleasant."

"Have been many times and had thought of Boulevard as the epitome of the fine dining experience in SF. Well, at that level expectations are high and sadly were not met on this trip. The food is elegant, but they try too hard... The food has become overly complex, and seems to lack a central taste theme. But the experience was really mared by the server. He brought the wrong entree which basically sets the entire meal off, and ruins the tempo of the meal.
This does happen, but not at this level of dining. He apologized but that was basically it; no complimentary anything was offered? No desert, no nothing. Additionally, several tables around us were served an Chef's starter, but not our table. We will not return."

"Went on a Tuesday around 9. It was still pretty crowded when we got there but they tapered off quickly. I didn't feel like alcohol that night, but they have a great selection of non-alcoholic cocktails, and the Harmony was delicious. My food was great (but not spectacular) as well, though my girlfriend thought her dish was just ok. Service was not so great. The kitchen (which is open to watch) was very slow, and we had several servers come by to tell us that our dinner would be ready soon (it wasn't). Our particular server seemed like she would rather be anywhere else. This was supposed to be a romantic first evening in SF, and it definitely was not."

"We decided to dine at Boulevard based upon family input as well as that of noted reviewers. We found all courses perfect and worthy of the praise. Of special accolade were the fish dishes.....the halibut and swordfish were exceptionally fine. The service was very attentive and the staff allowed us to experience a leisurely evening, as requested. Our wine, a Bordeaux Blanc, was enjoyable. We did, however, experience two moments of staff confusion: The wine steward delivered a non-ordered bottle of wine to our table, after our selected Bordeaux was opened, and commenced to initiate opening before we stopped him...he then departed to locate the correct table. Also, our server provided an initial incorrect bill with a $50 overcharge."

"Based on previous visits our expectations were high. My wife had Salmon and felt it was good. I had halibut and found it under cooked.
We asked if the $14 salad we were interested in was big enough to split. We were told it was very small. And, to split it would be an additional $4. We figured it couldn't be that small and ordered it split. We were wrong. The two split portions together wouldn't provide a reasonable amount for one person. We mentioned it to the server and she said pointed out that she told us it was small.
We knew Boulevard was expensive, but always felt it was worth it. This time it was not. And, our impression was that their success had created an attitude they didn't need our business. Probably true. Goodby"
