"I wanted to have lunch by the ocean on my birthday, which is why I choose The Lobster. It lived up to my expectations. While the service was a little slower than expected for lunchtime, everything else was great. The view of the pier and the ocean was spectacular. The Caesar salad and crab cakes were delicious. The service was friendly. I will be back!"

"The Lobster - while in quite the touristy hot spot of the Santa Monica pier has got things down pat. While they were very busy - we were taken to our table exactly on time - the service was great and the food was visually appealing and tasted wonderful.

Specialties were explained very well by our server, however, the service of our meal and drinks were too slow come to the table but overall it will not stop us from a return visit with more friends. "I had reservations about having dinner here as the location screams "tourist trap". I couldn't have been more wrong. The management has managed to take a tourist location and create a beautiful restaurant with first rate food, without the tourist tax on the menu. It is not cheap, but you get what you pay for. We had the seafood platter for two that was a meal in itself. Our waitress Natalie was a true gem. She made our evening one that we will not soon forget. Thank you Loster, and Natalie."

"My husband received a birthday notice via email, so we redeemed it for his birthday. I couldn't get a table at sunset, only 5:45 or 9. We opted to go earlier, and watched the sunset on the pier.
Dinner was great. We had the special thai falvored fish appetizer, which was great. The hamachi we also ordered was just ok, by comparison. we also had the special fish entree on a bed of red quiona, snap peas, leeks and horseradish yougurt, also quite tasty. I had the thai cocktail, which was different and good, and my husband had the mojitos, for which he paid the price the next morning.
Our waiter, who I blieve we had before was great."

"The Lobster is a nice restaurant with exceptional views of the ocean. It's perfect for a special occasion. The wait staff is attentive and extremely polite, which added to our already enjoyable experience. The only challenging part was the noise level rose quickly as more patrons entered the restaurant, which is to be expected. "Despite having a reservation and arriving early, we had to wait approximately 15 past our reservation time for a table. The restaurant is extremely crowded and noisy, I know the point is to have as many customers to make as much money as possible but they could've taken out a few tables so you didn't feel like you were packed in like sardines. The tables are literally elbow to elbow and the noise level is just shy of ear-bleeding. Food was good, although expensive and small portions. Won't go out of my way to go there again, was a special occasion and I was disappointed after flying literally across the country and planning to go there because it looked so good."

"We were celebrating our son's engagement with him and our future daughter-in-law. We did mention that fact to our waiter and he brought a sweet desert with a candle at the end of the meal.
Also, I had requested a "quiet" table, if possible, and we were accommodated with a booth which was as quiet as the space allowed.
We arrived on time and were seated immediately at the time of our reservation (12:45 PM Sunday noon). Our waiter indicated that a tour group of 70 people had JUST arrived before us. In spite of that potential problem, there was absolutely no delay in our receiving our food orders; the restaurant obviously had ramped up their wait staff to accommodate the group.
Our food was all delicious. A lovely experience."

"The food is excellent, and the wine list is two pages of small print, a pretty good selection overall. I gave the service an "outstanding" because it was attentive and prompt, the waiter was personable without being too familiar and quite knowledgeable about the menu items (content and prep)that we asked about. I rated the ambiance only three because we thought the pace of the meal was a bit too quick, not rushed, but almost. We ordered a bottle of wine plus an appetizer in addition to our entrees, and from the time we were seated until we were walking out the door was exactly 60 minutes. One thing we found perhaps a bit odd was that there were only men servers and bus staff, no women in sight that were employed there except the hostess."

"We had previously visited six weeks before and loved our experience. As it was my husbands birthday wanted it to be extra special, we requested a window seat. When we arrived the only seats available (side by side) were away from the window. One strike. We were seated and asked if we wanted cocktails. We ordered cosmopolitans. When we received them they tasted and looked like margaritas., even the witness commented. She brought us two more. They were so strong you couldn't drink them and again not sure they were vodka. We finally got a couple that were good but very strong. Strike two. Lobster! Couldn't wait!! Our lobsters arrived and they were not wht we had been served previously. No spiny anything last time. Strike three."

"As usual the food was outstanding. We both an alcoholic drink and started with the sashimi and oysters then we both had the sea scallops. After our main course we waited 40 minutes hoping the waiter would come back to ask whether we wanted dessert since it was a birthday lunch. He finally appeared with the bill!!! I come often to The Lobster as a private party or with my company. It never happened before! I was so disappointed. We left feeling thrown out! I usually leave at least 20% for tip; I only left 12% and I thought I was being generous!"

"Willing to accommodate my group when it grew by two. Great views from many places in the dining room. Excellent food. People said that there drinks were good too. Spinach pasta, a Spanish fish dish , and crab cakes were great. Caesar salad was one of the best I have had."

"The highlight of our two day stay in Santa Monica was lunch at The Lobster! Had a great window seat with a view of the pier. Steak & fries + 1/2 lobster was amazingly delicious! Manila Clam Chowder was the best I have ever eaten. Can't wait to return."

"Bad experience.. It was my bf birthday, I called a day early to request for a nice table next to the glass windows so we can see a view but when we get there we end up on a table that is away from the glass window as i requested. Whats the point of calling early if your not getting what you requested right? Anyway, after we ordered our food after a few minutes our waiter came back and said they are out of american lobster, i was like are you serious? So we end up getting a diffrent kind of lobster.. I was really upset cuz everything seems so wrong and off as i planned out. The food is so dry, specially the seared new bedford day boat scallops,i didnt really liked it. The lobster was ok nothing special. No complimentary dessert for birthday"

"I always enjoy The Lobster. The food is good. My server was wonderful. She had an energetic and engaging personality. She checked on us just enough and even though we had a table near a busy walking space,it wasn't too bad. The parking should be lower, in light of what you may spend at lunch or dinner and the parking attendant only takes cash, which was almost a problem, if it hadn't been for my client and me pulling our dollars together."

"We (foursome) had an a very nice evening with good food and an excellent view of the pier and Pacific ocean (which was the high point of the evening). The lobster was good rating a 7/10 score, somewhat tough on the ends. The lobster came without any accompaniment so a side dish of carrots (very good) was ordered. The scallops were slightly undercooked and the accompanying vegetable medley was heavily sauted in oil lending a greasy character to it. The bread, although fresh, can definitely be improved upon. We had an excellent wine which was priced right. We found nothing on the dessert menu that interested us. All in all, the ambience and view are the forte of the restaurant. More attention needs to be paid to food quality."

"Great location, great view, great food, and great service. The menu isn't extensive but the steak and lobster were both excellent. The desert was incredible. We had to wait a bit in the bar and the staff there were incredibly friendly and entertaining. Almost felt like we didn't wait at all. And the service at the table was also wonderful. Good place for a date. The view is romantic with the ocean and pier right nearby and the tightly packed dining room feels energetic and warm."
