Cicada is a masterful combination of art deco style and contemporary cuisine. The food is the star and the restaurant is the cinema. From the 30-foot gold leaf ceiling to the plush custom-designed bar and lounge, Cicada has combined 1920s Art Deco with contemporary design elements to create an extraordinary atmosphere. The European style is further complemented by a sophisticated Northern Italian and California fusion menu. 15,000 square feet--ideal for weddings, special events, and private parties.
"Our entrees took an hour (2 people). The good news is they are quick with the drink orders while you starve. Once the food arrived, it was exceptional. Maybe the kitchen was slammed from all the prom parties? We would try this restaurant again and hopefully the kitchen will be on it."

"Food and ser vice were comenserate with the price and quality of the dinner .The room is magnifiscent.WWe never feel disapoited when we vivst. The biggest negative is the wine list. Its overpriced ,narrow and too expensive .More than 85% of the wines are priced over $100 and that number would be on the cheap side."

"The restaurant is architecturally beautiful but run-down, and uses temporary tables and chairs (the sort you'd rent for weddings or other functions), which gives the room a very unpolished feel.
The food is a huge disappointment, especially for the price. Appetizers - the tuna tartar smothered in too-sweet sauce and a salad with prosciutto and melon had some strange mustard sauce that was really out of place. Main course: Served with supermarket bread. Veal that was decent but tasted like pork and grilled lamb chops that were charred and then drowned in sauce.
Service: Great waiter but the rest of the staff was very unpolished.
Avoid. The best part was leaving and getting dessert at a much better place down the street."

"Only go to Cicada if you know the final price. Super expensive even with travelzoo. Be sure not to tell the matre di you are on a coupon. Crabby and cranky. Ask for Mike. He made up for the Mr. Cranky"

"Drop-dead gorgeous all original Art Deco dining room straight from 1920's Paris. We were seated and served like VIPs. Love the view from the balcony/mezzanine overlooking the dance floor. Next time we stay for big swing band dancing!"

"LOVED this place. I have lived in downtown LA for over 2 years and had never even heard of it. Every dish was done to perfection. Our server was fun, professional and attentive as was all the other staff. We didn't have to ask for water once! The building is unique and the ambience romantic. I am surprised that this place is not plastered all over the news. It is one of the top 3 in downtown in my view."

"The service was superb but the food was average. We bought a voucher through Travelzoo since the restaurant had a high rating but the food was a dissapointment in comparison other fine dining establishments. Would not be returning."

"Great place with great staff, food, design and history. I would recommend this place more for couples than a group. The food was very good. Expect to pay a high premium to dine here."

"Lobster spaghetti and fettuccine with bolognese sauce was fair. After we finished dinner we had to wait over 20 minutes to finally get our check. When we got the check, there was no pen. Then valet could not find the key to our car. Another 20 min"

"Cicada is in a gorgeous old art-deco building. When you walk in, the grandeur overwhelms the senses. This is only to be heightened by the tremendous wait staff and impeccably prepared culinary marvel. While it is expensive, it is well worth it. The night my wife and I went to Cicada, there was a travelzoo special which we did not know about. The special was a super good deal, so my advice: keep an eye out for future coupons and specials."

"Chose Cicada for a very special Valentine's Day dinner where I proposed to my girlfriend. She said yes :) The food, from a set course menu, was delicious and elegantly presented. The band played romantic jazz numbers all throughout the evening. The staff was smart and attentive, and in particular, the general manager, Mr. Liberman, ensured my special request (which included a certain song to be played by the band) was met. A most memorable and beautiful experience!"

"The Cicada Restaurant is a great place in all aspects. The food was great and tasty, service was a main factor to all staff, the featured band that specific night was on point and the overall ambience was just amazing and romantic. The whole feeling like your fine dining back in the 1930's -1940's is pretty awesome. 5 stars all the way!!!"

"Cicada was not only an absolutely beautiful place, but our experience that night was memorable. We know that Valentine's was a busy night, but our waiter Michael was always quick to attend us and never missed a beat. My husband and I will definitely be back to Cicada and will spread the word to our friends about what an amazing treasure we have in our own back yard.
THANK YOU!"

"We went on Valentine's Day, we were seated on the main floor and it appeared that a lot of extra tables were squeezed into the main dining room. Although we expected that service would be a little slow on such a busy night, the prix fix menu should have helped to move things along. When we were seated, we got drinks and bread immediately. It took 30 minutes to get soup, another 25 minutes for the pasta course, and 50 minutes before the main course arrived. Did I mention that it took 1 hour and 45 minutes before dinner was placed in front of me with a prix fix menu. The food was just average, the waiter was friendly but useless, and when we finally asked to take our desert to go, it took another 25 minutes before we escaped! Not Good!"

"The Cicada is an experience, but I'm not sure that the price of the food justifies that experience. We were charged $8 for 2 bottle of still water (we didn't ask for bottled, mind you.) The wait staff was fine, but seemed to be slightly disorganized. I can't put my finger on it, but something seemed to be off. The live music was nice and the restaurant itself is beautiful, but it seemed to be lacking that thing that moves the experience from "nice enough" to "I'm definitely going back.""

"The terribly slow service made everything else undesirable. I feel like I wasted $130. The place is really beautiful. But after the dining experience, I felt as if I had been taken. The cuisine was slightly above mediocre. This place's inflated prices are unjustified. It was easily the worst part of a very special night."

"Cicada is beautiful and full of charm. However the service was by far the worst I've experienced. After being seated it took 10 minutes for a menu to be brought to our table. After finally receiving a food menu we requested a wine list which took 30 minutes to arrive to our table, and was only delivered due to my second request for one... This time to the busboy. Our dinner arrived to our table promptly after being ordered, however our waiter never returned to our table to take our beverage order . Our waiter returned to our table 5 minutes after our plates had been cleared to take our cocktail orders. Needless to say there was no wine consumed during our dinner at Cicada. It took an additional 15-30 for our check to arrive."

"Romantic ambience of the 1920s-era Oviatt Building can't be beat. The mostly Italian menu could use a little kick-starting in the inventiveness category, but the preparation is excellent, and the service is old-school good."

"The service was not very good. The waitress was not able to tell us much about the menu. Also my order was not what it said it was. I sent it back and it again was not what the menu described. It was good but just odd."

"This is definitely one of the coolest looking rooms I have ever dined in. It's an old art deco building and the room is dark wood, dark carpet, very high ceilings and brings you right back to 1920's. Tables are spread out nicely so not on top of everyone and makes it much more quiet. Very dim lighting and very romantic. The history that this place holds was very cool and interesting. It was a nice, quiet, romantic dinner."
