"We waited 2 1/2 hours for our entrees. The meal was served in courses, but with huge waits in between each course, and no consideration for the fact that we needed to speed things up. We were very hungry, especially my 1 1/2 year old son who is typically amazingly well-behaved in restaurants. The poor child was so hungry and tired he finally just put his little head down on the table and cried. The waiter took 20 minutes just to bring the milk I had ordered for him. Frankly, we were all hungry and irritable by the end of the night. When you spend this much on a meal, you want to have an enjoyable dinner. The waiter seemed to be avoiding us rather than admitting this was a problem and trying to address it."

"I selected Caffe Boa to celebrate Valentine's Day with my wife. My meal was very tasty, but her duck was cut in chunks instead of thin slices. It was noisier than we wanted, but that may have been a mismatch between our expectations and the ambience sought by the restaurant. I liked the decor and would probably have enjoyed the experience for lunch or a different occasion. I'll probably give them another chance to impress me, but will choose another event for my visit."

"Despite its high prices and reputation as the best restaurant in Tempe, we found Caffe Boa not to be worth all the hype. The food was average: steaks not cooked to order (i.e. medium rare instead of well done), pasta that tasted like they threw the cardboard box in with it, salt brought to the table in a plastic cup. Moreoever, we waited over an hour to get our food and the wait staff was generally not knowledgeable about the menu offerings. The bar and ambience inside Boa is indeed very nice, although the outdoor seating is not as interesting. For all this, one has the pleasure of paying top price ($40/person for 2-courses w/out alcohol). There are plenty of great places to eat in Tempe...this is not one of them."

"The butternut squash pasta was simply amazing. If you've not tried it; you must. The wine list and knowledge of the staff is spectacular so you won't go wrong pairing your meal with your wine...trust them. Our dinner was amazing and I can't think of anything they could do differently to make it a better experience. I also love the fact they locally grow their own produce to ensure we have the best quality available."

"My husband and I looked forward to celebrating Valentines Day at Cafe Boa every year, unfortunately we will not be going back next year. We have dined at Cafe Boa several times and always had a great time and great food. That however was not the case a couple of weeks ago, when we arrived they did not honor our reservation time. We sat at the bar for 15 minutes until we finally decided to sit outside in order to be seated quicker. The menu was completely different, they now offer more pretty food. I use to love the dishes that Boa offered, classic meals, with their Mediterranean twist and distict taste. That however is no longer the case."

"Caffe Boa on Mill Avenue has become my favorite restaurant in the Valley. The food and wine are fantastic. (Matter of fact I fell in love with a wine from Slovenia which you cannot purchase retail. "Compared to previous visits, Cafe Boa must have changed chefs. The menu is still fit for a foodie but the execution was way off. My lobster pasta with a saffron cream sauce was sticky gooey and there wasn't an herb to be found. My husband's pork dish was bland and there isn't a real vegetable to be found anywhere on the menu. I'm sorry because we love the restaurant but we'll think twice about going back for a while."

"They have recently changed the menu and it appears there were only about 5 items that were carried over from the old menu. One of these was the Voodoo Penne and it was changed slightly which unfortunately was for the worse. What used to be white solid chunks of chicken is now a mixture of shredded white and dark meat. I am not a fan of dark meat and unfortunately the dish is not what it used to be. The other items looked interesting but based on what I saw I much preferred the old menu."

"We dined early (4:30)because we had to be somewhere else at 6. Still it surprised us that our waiter disappeared for a while after leaving our salads. He did apologize saying he had staff meeting. Wow, we felt special! We both had the lamb with bee pollen. It was the toughest lamb I've ever had and the bee pollen did nothing for the lamb. On the upside or
Caesar Salad was fresh and the dressing was not over powering. The waiter was very attentive
after his meeting and he introduced us to a delicious Malbec. We didn't have the heart to tell him how bad the lamb was."

"The food was good and the restaurant is lovely. The only thing that was not up to par was that I had made a reservation for lunch since it was a birthday. "Recently the executive chef at this restaurant changed and I no longer am a fan of the food. The menu looks enticing but food profiles were not well balanced, too much salt, and food presentation was no longer desirable. Caffe Boa, while not known for their Middle Eastern or Greek cuisine, used to have the best hummus in town. It was always offered with bread right when you arrived. After the chef change, the worst tragedy is that the hummus is just not that good, in fact it was terrible, too thin, and it had a horrible after taste. This was a real disappointment because I had previously had fantastic experiences at this restaurant and now I cannot see myself paying the asking prices for such low quality food."

"The new chef has redone a lot of the recipes and they are wonderful, mostly by removing a lot of the cream from the recipes. This allows some of the flavors that get lost in the cream sauces to shine and really add some unique flavors that are missed at places that just pile on the fat. "The restaurant is not noted for speed, but the service and food were good. Definitely a European-feel to the place as noted by the relaxed pace that you would find outside of the U.S. If you're in a hurry or looking for the traditional hour-long lunch, go elsewhere. If you have time to spend in quality conversation and your stomach isn't growling too badly, give Caffe Boa a try."

"My wife and I used to frequent the Caffe Boa when it was at it's original location on Mill, and even after it moved to it's current location. It became a very special place for us, as we traditionally went there on our anniversary every year. This year we decided that we would not go back anymore. The new "chef" and "owner" have changed the menu and have taken away menu items that we loved for 7 years. Now Caffe Boa is changing with the Mill Avenue scene - going in a corporate direction. There must be rich ASU students, because when my wife & I went there, we (and others) were grateful for places like Caffe Boa that made great food affordable. Now it's just fair food at Scottsdale prices. Unfortunately, they've changed for the worst!"

"Another fantastic night at Caffe Boa. The food coming from Payton's kitchen continues to get more and more exciting and innovative with the same attention to details and classic flavors as always. "I've been to Cafe Boa many times before for dinner and for happy hour so when I was put in charge of making arrangements for my friend's birthday, I thought Sunday brunch at Cafe Boa was an excellent idea. I brought in a party of 12. There was miscommunication about the size of our group. I was told we could smoke on the patio by the server and then management told us we could not. Our table was not ready at the time of our reservation. The portion of food on the plates for brunch were very small. The server was overwhelmed (understaffed?) therefore he could not keep up with drink orders. We were very disappointed."

"We went as a group and shared many of the dishes. They were all fantastic! The service was good on the food side. They took their time a couple of times with the wine, but barely noticeable. They pride themselves on the food and they should it was great! The 'all-male' waiter staff was pleasing to our female guests, young but cute they told me. I enjoyed the experience overall very much."

"We had made advanced reservations due to the size of our group. Our reservation was for 7:30 p.m. but we finally got everyone sitted by 7:45 p.m. Upon arrival, I advised the hostess and our assigned server that we were in a tight schedule and wanted as much as possible to expedite the service. Unfortunately, after placing our orders with the server, it took almost one hour before the main entrees were served to our table. When our food was finally served clost to 9:00 p.m. the food was not in any way of high quality and a disappointment. In fact, I had to apologize to my guests for the slow service and food quality. Our group included board members and executive management of a very large financial institution in AZ."
