The signature dish at Legal Sea Foods – really fresh fish.
Our restaurant is located inside The Mall at Short Hills on the lower level. You may choose to beach yourself in our dining room or at our bar. Either way, we’ll think you walk on water - be sure to see our aquarium of koi fish built into the floor.

"I LOVE Legal's Seafood - Short Hills. Let me repeat. I LOVE Legal's Seafood - Short Hills. Great food and great service, especially when Stephanie is my waitress. She's attentive and always gets my order right. Even when she isn't waiting on me, Stephanie stops at my table to say hello. There's another waitress, not sure of her name right now. She's short and appears to be of Hispanic/Indian descent. She's awesome as well. Both are very accommodating. Judy, the hostess is also a gem of a hostess. She remembers her regular customers and always tries to accommodate me seating wise.
What can I say about the food? The best grilled shrimp, fried shrimp, spring salad and.....CRAB CAKE in all of the U.S. Absolutely awesome!!!"

"It was okay... it seemed kind of run down and harried...not enough attention to detail that I expect of restaurants in this price range with such a good wine list. The calamari was okay but didn't seem like a lot of food for $11.95. The entrees were much better and very good!!!"

"We had a 7:15 reservation and were kept waiting until 7:45. We were not the only ones. The scene by the door was chaotic with plenty of people complaining about their reservations not being honored. I have to give the front desk staff credit for not losing their cool, and trying their best to manage an unmanageable situation.
And then, once we sat down, the food was just OK. The waiter was great and service was prompt, but my sense was that they couldn't wait to get rid of us so they could give our table to the next guests.
I will not be going back any time soon."

"For a chain, this restaurant always outdoes itself. From the moment you walk in, the service from host to waitress is above and beyond. The waitress explains all the specials, but also recommends items not on the menu. The everything all spiced ahi tuna, is a favorite, not on the menu, but can be easily prepared.
HIghly recommend making a reservation, whatever time you think youll be eating. Otherwise your wait will be over an hour. Very prompt service, clean bathrooms, and overall A+ dining experience. Enjoy your food!"

"Consistently delicious; fish is always tasty, fresh and prepared perfectly; service was good and wait staff listened well. Wine list good - always have a good variety. Ask for chopped greek salad, with dressing on side and salmon cooked medium. It is a great lunch or late dinned entree. It is not on the menu but I order it and get it at least 1x/month!"

"Generally our food was good, and I ordered Nutty Salmon which is an almond encrusted salmon dish with a side of mushroom ravioli. I was very disappointed that the ravioli appeared a bit shriveled with their corners turned upward. They seemed overcooked and tough. The salmon was good though."

"The food we had was excellent as was the service from our waiter. Good fish prepared in a tasty manner. However the way our seating was handled was awful. We arrived 5 minutes early for a 6:45PM reservation for 4. We waited to be seated for about 25 minutes. During that time, a party of 4 that had no reservation was seated as well as another of party of 4 that had a 7PM reservation and were seated at 6:50. After our wait, the staff was very apologetic but did not offer anything for our inconvenience."

"Surprised at how poor the service was; very poorly trained staff. Served meal & quickly scurried away; never returned though we needed several things and there was a mistake to the order... we waited... & waited.... Tossed bill on table without so much as looking at us (literally dropped the bill on table while walking to another table). Servers hoarde together in packs... 5 or 6 huddle in one place. Same with the maitre'ds (plural). FOUR ladies huddled in a pack behind the desk... all four stared dumbly at us, as if wondering why we wandered into the joint. When my 6 year old got his dessert he said, "Oh, thank you" to the server... who scurried away without a response. Really lame. Food below avg. Would not return."

"Our reservation was for a busy Saturday evening, but the service did not suffer at all. The food was excellent, the staff was friendly. An enjoyable evening all around. The ambient noise was a little excessive, there was loud music on top of the typical sounds of dinner. In close quarters it's going to be loud, that's expected, but the music on top made it a bit harder to carry on conversation. That would be the only negative of the evening."

"Met a friend there for a lunch recently for a long overdue catch up session. We ordered the fried and raw oysters, and they were excellent. We also shared our main dishes - Grilled Mediterranean Salmon and Everything Spiced Tuna. They were both pretty good, but not particularly memorable. I was debating whether to rate the Food a '4', but I would give it a 3+ if I could.(sorry, am bit of a foodie)
The service was excellent, with nice and attentive servers. No one rushed us, and we felt comfortable to stay 2 hours, even though it was on a Saturday. The wine that was recommended was great, and the surprise of the day was when we were presented with a free dessert. So unexpected and nice! Definitely plan to return next time I'm in the area"

"Appetizers were great. Lobster bisque was disappointing and not as good as I remember it. Tasted like it was bought (not made) and then just had a couple of pieces of lobster added. Not what I would have expected. Main courses were very good but small portions. They filled the plates with vegetables to make it look like more."

"Consistently excellent seafood. While we will occasionally see a new server, most appear to have been there quite awhile...so tells me it's a good place to work. Service ranges from very good to outstanding.
Two of my favorite things on the menu: New England Lite Clam Chowder (each portion is made individually) and Steamed Clams."

"The quality of food served here is quite good, but on weekends at least, it is not at all uncommon to have a (say) 7:30PM reservation, and have to wait until 8:15 to be seated. Rather annoying as for those without reservations they hand out the blinking beepers, and will seat some of these people before honoring their reservations. Bottom line: make your reservation earlier than you plan to dine, show up at that time, and plan on having a drink or three at the bar while you wait.
Also, the decor is quite nice, and wait staff a bit above average, but tables are tightly packed, and the noise level is, well to be polite, "energetic.""
