"Although pricey, it's a great place for a special occasion. We celebrated a milestone anniversary, but have dined there before. Was a little dismayed, however, to see that the menu set-up had changed. They decided to offer only set choices at a set price instead of pricing each item separately - seemed to make it a little more expensive than before. Otherwise, a really special evening."

"The food was superb, delicious and beautiful. The service had glitches and the wine markup was excessive. Instead of asking people at the table which wines they wanted to drink, everyone got a glass for each bottle ordered. I suppose this is protocol, but from a practical perspective, there were just too many glasses on the table. The white wine was not chilled enough. White wine can often be overchilled, but this was the opposite. It came straight from the cellar which was probably a fine temperature for storage, but not for serving. I felt that the wine markup was excessive. I am familiar with prices and markup, and it was excessive at Everest. But the food was fantastic!"

"The food at Everest is no doubt outstanding and the view is wonderful (though not all tables are able to enjoy this); however at this price point I expect not just a great dinner, but an amazing overall dining experience. This is where Everest falls short when comparing to Chicago's very best restaurants where there is just a bit more of a wow factor with the food, more creativity, service is as personable as it is polished and the ambiance not just upscale but also trendy. That said Everest is extremely solid and is operating at a high level (literally and figuratively) - it is only when comparing to Chicago's top few venues that Everest has some weaknesses exposed. For those into fine dining Everest is well worth visiting."

"I don't think it was the restaurants fault, since when I called they said there was no guarantee of the view. Me and my husband had one of the worst seatings for the view of the city, I could not see it at all. I requested it months before and called the same day. Also, the review we read said it would cost around 200, our bill was close to 500. We both had 2 drinks a piece and ordered specific things from the menu. They have a tasting menu and maybe that is cheaper. Was really hard to have a conversation with my husband, I felt if I talked too loud I would disturb the table right beside us, there was no way we could move closer to each other. For the price, not worth it."

"Americans frustrated about sampling more traditional French cuisine in Paris, given current trends, would not be disappointed by Everest. My wife and I enjoyed a nearly three hour dinner entranced by a view from the 40th floor that covered much of western Chicago and beyond. It was the food, wine and superb service that proved even more entrancing. The traditional Alsatian favorites are still very much front and center but do not shy away from any of the other dishes, particularly seafood. The breads and deserts made it even easier to envision a night in Paris. Our paired wines were superb and for those hoping to find fine French cuisine in Chicago this is a must. Chicago is lucky that Everest's French chef found his way to town."

"We flew to Chicago for a long weekend and this was the highlight. We did the tasting menu and each course was excellent. The food was superbly prepared and served. It was honestly one of the best meals I have had. All of the staff worked together to make every thing seem perfect. I will be back next time in Chicago."

"Food was fantastic - much better than Les Nomades for traditional French fine dining. I was surprised at how empty the restaurant was on a Saturday night, but the meal was superb. We went for a four course prix-fixe with two starters (oysters and signature buttered lobster), an entree (duck breast with turnips) and a chocolate souffle for dessert. I had a vintage Dom Perignon champagne that paired very well with all of my food.
My only quibble is that we didn't really have a view since we were seated very far inside, nowhere near the windows. Oh, and the bread was disappointing. The bread service at restaurants like Grace, L2O and Sixteen is much superior.

"Beautiful restaurant tucked away atop a very private and very secure building in downtown Chicago. You have to know where you're going. Only real difficulty was finding a cab after dinner. On a side street. Not well traveled. Would be nice if they provided a call service. Nonetheless restaurant was elegant and small. Excellent food. Beautifully presented. Pleasant and knowledgeable waitstaff. Breathtaking view if you are fortunate to have a window table which we were. Pricey. But overall a wonderful dining experience."

"We had one of the set menus and enjoyed two starters and a main dish but no sweets - too full at that stage! However complimentary candies were offered with coffee. All dishes were exceptionally tasty and well presented. The venue was convienienly situated close to the Loop train station. The view from the 40th floor was good and the decor was simple and relaxing with works of art on the tables. The ratio of staff to number of tables was high which enabled excellent service throughout the meal."

"Husband made the reservation for my birthday. We had the tasting menu and daughter also had the roasted maine lobster. First, the amuse bouche was excellent. Best butternut squash soup I have EVER had. Everything in the tasting menu, except the venison, was great. The venison course was not bad, but not outstanding either, compared to others that evening. I have eaten venison at fine dining establishment even before I was in my teens--and I love venison. so this doesn't impress me. The lobster was impressive, and I can see why it is the chef's famous dish. But what I find absolutely memorable that night was the "Elderberry and Champagne Gelee, Winter tangerine". Staffs were excellent, and the sommelier's recommendation was SPOT ON!"

We called ahead to let them know what was happening and the staff could not have been nicer. They kept tabs on the train delay and welcomed our friends into the restaurant while they waited for us. Dinner was superb and the wine list was extensive. We had a wonderful time and we feel it was in large part due to the staff. We hope to return!"

"Everest is a gem of a restaurant. But calling it a restaurant is not sufficient, it is a beautiful experience for the senses. The staff is one of the finest in the city, the chef and kitchen do not miss on anything, the room and view has few to compare to. We have dined here off and on for years, the restaurant blends its exemplary past with keeping pace with the present. There is nothing staid, stuffy or out of date. Instead Everest only demonstrates the finest care for its patrons and in its preparation of the restaurant's cuisine."

"Upscale dinning, top service, unparallel food. Please note vallet is on financial street, not on LaSalle. One detail is they have limited beer selection (only 1 option). Not a big deal if you are not a beer aficionado, to me it was important. Never the less it was outstanding experience overall, from food (exquiste and complex) to service. Dinner x 2 with 3 glasses of wine $420 including 20% tip ( a must withe that level of service) very well worth it."

"Wonderful French restaurant. Very expensive ($500 for a couple which included a really nice bottle of wine and three other drinks.). Beautiful view of the city.
Food is an adventure and the service is incredible without being over-solicitous.
Would highly recommend for a special occasion. It's a little out of the way but worth the trip."

"The service and food was spectacular. We went for a prix fix theather menu and the food was wonderful. The portions were somewhat small but you get lots of extras. The amuse bouche was three little bites that were awesome. The appetizer and entree were delicious as well as the lava center chocolate souflee. They offer wonderful fresh baked breads during dinner and delicious small desserts after the meal. Everest was an experience. The dinning room is elegant with a stunning view. The staff are friendly, knowledgable and professional."

"Food was superb, especially the specialities of the house that we had, e.g. foie gras and the duck breast. But for an elite restaurant of this type, the service was abysmal, especially when one gets better service at Denny's - the filling of a water glass without prompting, the removal of finished tableware - these things did not occur for us at our visit. Better service seems easily correctable, but at least the food remains remarkable.
For a scenic view in the windowed dining room overlooking the city, it seems a reservation at the first sitting is necessary. Otherwise, a reservation at a later dining time with a requested window seat made a month earlier will just get you a disappointing seating in the overflow room."
