"The Poseidon has been a long time favorite dining establishment of mine. In the number of years I have dined there, I have grown to appreciate the outstanding customer service and food quality; besides being located right on one of the most beautiful beaches in San Diego. Recently, however, I have noticed that the service has been somewhat diminishing. On my last two recent visits, I have noticed that the servers leave you lingering for long periods of time without checking in to see if you need anything else. Also, since I routinely split my entrees with whomever I am dining with, they are now charging a $5.00 split plate fee. My server strongly suggested that I pay the $5.00 to split the Cioppino and avoid risking getting red sauce on my clothes. Now, while I do realize that this is typical for some restaurants, it is relatively new for the Poseidon; and somewhat of an insult to pay an additional $5.00 to serve one dish onto two plates. To top it off, they seem to have hired a new restaurant manager who is not customer focused at all. Instead, he literally tells the hostess, in front of customers, not to seat people if they don’t have a reservation. Wouldn’t you expect the manager to politely address the customer directly by saying something like, “sorry, but we are overbooked at the moment, we can put your name on a wait list or you could take advantage of the bar area as that is open seating and the dinner menu can also be served three if you like.” And unlike most “other” upper scale establishments, this manager does nothing to greet the customers, ask how their meal was, or if there is anything else they can do for them. You know what they say, the team is only as good as their leader."

"We arrived a little earlier than planned and the hostess with the moistest was kind enough to find us a seat on the patio...even though it was crowded. The waiter was exceptional and the food was delicious....and the weather was incredible as well. The service in the restaurant was so good, that they were inconspicuous...so we were able to enjoy our lunch with friends without being interrupted.
Always a wonderful experience....that is why we all keep coming back.
