The minute you walk into Poseidon, you’ll be swept by the fabulous view. You couldn’t be closer to the sand and the beach than sitting at Poseidon on their beautiful outdoor patio. With such a spectacular ocean view, you’ll experience breathtaking sunsets and during the right season even catch a glimpse of the whales migrating up or down the coast. The bar offers a large circular firepit, which is nice on those chilly fall or winter nights. Off to the side of the bar is a split level dining room offering every table a panoramic view of the beach and the ocean. For over 33 years, Poseidon has delighted both local San Diegans and the tourists that love the beach. An excellent menu, a favorite with all the locals is designed to cater to all appetites and pocketbooks.

"Usually, my guests and I have an excellent dining experience at Poseidon. This time, our margaritas were served in small glasses, watered down w/ little flavor and my cup of clam chowder was the smallest cup I've ever had. The salmon and the crab were excellent."

"Good upscale dining in casual atmosphere on the beach in Carlsbad, popular for all age groups. Nice menu, food well prepared, tasty, plentiful portions, dessert and beverage list to complement your meal. Outdoor seating can be enclosed when windy which it was this evening. Service was very good, especially considering our waiter had a group of 13 in his rotation at the same time we sat down. Here from out of town, would come back if in the area."

"I haven't been to this restaurant in many years and was pleasantly surprise how much it has improved in service and food

"View is amazing, right on the beach! Lunch was delicious, Coconut shrimp, ceviche, crab cake sandwich, thai chicken salad, all yummm! The service was 2nd rate. We got forgotten by our server, dripped on, spilled on and one of the entrees was not made correctly and it never came out until we flagged down a random server and asked for it. Hopefully just an off day for service, might try again, or I may just go down the street to Jakes, where I feel more valued."

"I've been here many times before and lunch this time was just so-so. I ordered the ahi tuna salad. The tuna was bland, there was enough greens for a hutch of rabbits and the salad dressing was tasteless and practically non-existent. Maybe dressing on the side? I'm so unimpressed with my last visit that it will not be choice when we want to dine on the beach."

"Service was awful! No water refills, had to ask multiple times for bread, never saw server, didn't come back to check on us to see how we were doing, my soup came out with my meal, which was wrong. When I told her she brought the wrong meal she stated you ordered the halibut right? I said no I ordered seabass...she said oh we are out of seabass so I brought you this. Who just brings you something instead of what you ordered unless they ask you first??? I read yelp reviews about Poseidon and they all stated "bad service" I ignored them thinking it was just a few bad experiences. Boy, was I wrong! This place is horrible for service!!"

Very flexible with the fish tacos, as they let us have one of each: grilled and battered.One person decided to try the pastrami sandwich and decided to go back to the Fish & Chips next time. "My husband and I have eaten here over the years but not recently and went because we had a coupon about to expire. What a disappointment! Our first choice of wine was out; the alternative was $52 for a wine we get at Costco for $10. The beet salad we shared was very tasty, but consisted of a few slices of beets with a few shreds of arugula, hardly worth $12. My husband's diver's scallops were 3 small scallops and a few swirls of mashed potatoes, hardly a $32 entree. I had the seafood mac & cheese, the one dish that was a reasonable size portion and good value. The ultimate insult was getting the bill and finding only the food was discounted, not the wine. Our waitress pointed to the fine print, which we had overlooked. We won't return!"

"We went to Poseidon with relatives from out of town. They do have a wonderful view of the beach, especially of sunset. The food selection is good but everyone considered their steak and fish dishes average and the price is pretty spendy for average. Service was slow and our server needed to be reminded a couple times about forgotten things. The valet service is great and prompt, a good deal for $4. All in all, there are other choices along the beach with better food, service and prices."

"I made a reservation 3-4 days in advance and asked for a table with a best view. I arrived right on time and was told there would be a wait for a table with a good view. There were 3 unoccupied 4-tops right next to the beach but I was seated inside with a peek of a view. One can only wonder who the prime tables were being saved for.
We had 4 different servers during our meal. While we occasionally had to chase one down they were all cheerful and helpful and did a remarkably good job considering how busy they were. I guess they used the team approach to prevent food getting cold waiting for one particular server. For a casual dining place that is probably a good system."

"When checking on line it was rated $$ for price. I thought it was more like $$$ for lunch. I'll come back on special occasions only because of the prices of lunch and wine. Our server was awesome. The gentleman who served us was wonderful: got what we needed and lit the heater, even having to get a new tank, but was so cheerful.
Thanks much for a great experience and food.

"Dining on the heated patio at sunset is a must! There is nothing like watching the sun slip over the horizon to set a romantic mood. The food is delicious, with something for everyone. I tried a chef special of swordfish that was the best swordfish I have ever had. The inside of Poseidon is lovely; the outside is not as nicely done, but you don't come to look at the furnishings. The Pacific is the star!"

"We were looking for a place where we could dine and watch the sun set. Poseidon was the perfect place. We sat in the outdoor area with one of those heating devices next to us. It was cozy, yet outdoors. The sunset was spectacular. The food was great. The wine nicely complimented the meal. And our attendant was really outstanding. She was genuinely friendly. We had a wonderful and memorable time--just what we wanted.

"The food was very good, at a level I would expect for this type of restaurant. I could pick apart a few details on the food, but it would be just that: picky.
Service was outstanding - server "Scott" was fun, knowlegdable, and prompt. We were seated immediately at our reservation time with a nice view. The was a dinner out for work associates. The menu is not huge, but quite varied. All palates should be able to find what they want.
Don't choose Poseidon for a quiet romantic dinner. The place is just too hopping. But for a fun chatty night out, it's a solid choice."

"On the beach view, fantastic. Been twice recently, and servers had attitude! Shouldn't need to ask for daily specials, bread basket, more water... Bar charges for each soda refill, even club soda.... Coconut shrimp appy, dismal, no flavor, deep fried batter mostly, tiny shrimp... fish n chips tasty, but small portions for price...salad with chicken chunks, thrown together. Parking is $4, valet only. Outdoor patio is noisy, if 'see thru plastic windows' are down, view is ruined. Bring jacket just in case, you want windows up for view, but they are slow (cheap?) to turn on outside heaters... better yet, pick up sandwiches to go 5 blanket & eat on grassy area at 15!th street."

"NOT our first time here and a bit of a disappointment. The view was great, as always, from our beachside table. The service was fair. Not major problems but not overly attentive or helpful. Adequate I guess would define it. The food was where the real disappointment came in. Could this seaside restaurant be serving frozen crab cakes? My appetizer was 4 small cakes that looked machine pressed. Worse, I could find no crab in these crab cakes. They looked identical inside and out and that would be to say they looked like filler. There may have been shredds of crab but I couldn't find them and certainly no lumps. Futher my husbands Sea Bass was overdone and dry. Can not recommend Poseidon anymore and won't return."
