Ardeo + Bardeo
Ardeo+Bardeo, located in the historic district of Cleveland Park -- four miles from the White House -- is a neighborhood favorite serving modern American cuisine. The restaurant underwent a major renovation in November 2010 to enhance the modern bistro and wine bar, uniting the two restaurants with a 24-seat island bar. Executive Chef Nate Garyantes has crafted a menu which features cured meats, soups and salads, savory snacks, seasonal vegetables dishes and brick oven baked flatbreads. Ardeo+Bardeo has become a virtual “Who’s Who” of Washington. Those who frequent include Madeleine Albright, Jim Lehrer, Alan Greenspan and the former first family, the Clintons.

"I selected Ardeo + Bardeo to host an anniversary dinner for 3 couples celebrating in month of May. Chose it based on the strength of reviews and reputation of its head chef as well as varied menus.
No one was dissapointed! The bold members of our party (me) had rabbit and the timid (my wife et al) enjoyed pizza and hamburgers. Oh well I tried, right? The wonderful part was that from mild to wild & from small to large appetites everyone could find what they were looking for.
Our server Adam was attentive to our needs without being intrusive. One of the better waiters I have experienced in my time here in DC."

"We had some terrific food at Ardeo + Bardero. The butter lettuce salad with shrimp was super. And it was great that they split it when I mentioned that my wife and I were sharing. The seven-hour braised leg of baby pig with grits and peanuts was tops. The pastas are great--more than what you normally get at a restaurant that is not a better-than-average Italian place. The steak was excellent. The deserts were outstanding. The service was extremely good--than you Adam! The upstairs dining room is quieter than the downstairs, but not by much when it gets really busy, but the food and service were worth the excess noise. We are happy to have such a great place close to home. And the prices are moderate!"

"Ardeo + Bardeo was recommended to me by a friend when I told her I was coming to DC for graduation. I was looking for a good brunch place to take my family and we certainly found it! The service was excellent and the menu was full of variety. Everyone ordered something different and enjoyed every bite! I would highly recommend this gem in Woodley Park!"

"We were a party of 12 going to celebrate my graduation. I live Ashok baja's (however u spell it) his other restaurants so wanted to try this one with the family. They definitely impressed and I would go back. Most popular dish is the scallops, which I ordered and devoured. Also, side dish/app for the table: Brussels sprouts and chickpeas- they were SO good."

"I had friends visiting from out of the countrie and decided to take them to Ardeo Bardeo, because it's a local spot and it was getting late. Been sending people there since my first time visiting and never heard anything back but great things and people been really pleased. So was I again on my last visit. An extra heads up to our two waiters on the top floor, they maide our experience a phenomenal! I'll be back soon..."

"I had no idea what to expect from this neighborhood gem. It was absolutely fabulous. We had an early reservation and were seated immediately at a very nice table. Our waiter was attentive but did not hover. He made suggestions. The brussels sprouts were crunchy and flavorful, excellent suggestion. Each of our meals ( 4 people) were different and enjoyed. The scallop schnitzel was out of this world as was the salmon steak.
We will return again. Our only wish is that it was more accessible. They had 10 valet parking spots. It would be great if they opened another location with more parking."

"This was my sixth visit. Took my adult sons Saturday night. Favs were over salted, even for them: beet salad and Brussels sprouts. Hanger steak bites on potato were nice, pizzas, both margarita and the one with red onion and dill were inedible. Waitress was impatient and surly. Nothing like other visits. Had a great bottle of wine."

"The restaurant has 2 levels - the lower level is more energetic, louder, has the bar in the center with barstools on both sides of the room. The upper level is quiet, great for small groups, couples. The small plates were the best. The black Spaghetti was a bit bland. Highly recommend the fried brussel sprouts and the lamb dish. Very distinct flavors. The 4 cheese sampler was also good."

"Ardeo + Bardeo was a last minute choice for a birthday brunch and ended up being one of the best restaurants I've eaten at in DC. Between the brussel sprouts which were notably incredible and the shrimp lemon risotto, the meal was delicious from start to finish. "it is so hard to find a quiet restaurant in the DC metro area but we found one. A+B was simple, quiet and delicious. My husband and I ordered outside of our comfort zone and we were so glad we did. "Although a bit on the noisy side (we had difficulty hearing our servers explain menu items), the entire staff was friendly and professional...and very attentive. The food was delicious...we enjoyed the diversity of the menu. Parking was a problem as the valet lot was apparently full. We were directed to the end of the street to a lot, which was also full. We had to wait there for an opening as we were already inside the lot, which made us late for our reservation. So allow enough time for parking issues. Overall, very enjoyable and would highly recommend."

"Great food. An interesting, but not pretentious menu with excellent variety and intriguing choices. Good service, although the initial snack that we ordered apparently got lost and only arrived with the entree. On a Saturday night, it was very lively with a lot of noise downstairs. We were glad to be given a table upstairs, where we could actually have a conversation. Reservations highly recommended. Not a cheap night out but excellent choice for almost any occasion."

"Upon dining we did not receive our +100 points. Having to know go through Open Table to receive points for reservation. Overall, members of our party were satisfied with their food. However, slow service, and our waitress ignoring our table, made for a long dining experience. And for someone who requires gluten-free, the chef was not very accommodating. I was limited to a salad and the cheese plate, sans bread. We will not be going back, unfortunately."

"In general the dining is pretty good. The service was excellent. Two of the dishes were overly salted, we had to send one back. Our server was great, but the floor manager came to our table and told us he would get another out right away. He said, they liberally salt that dish but if we do not like salt he would prepare one without. Bottom line, if that is standard then they have a big problem. The next one came out on the salty side but at least edible. Go figure, cause I kind of like an appropriate seasoning on my food. On the way home though my mouth dried out and the manager was right, they liberally salt everything. Odd palate them. Not likely to return."

"We thoroughly enjoyed dinner at A+B. having been to other Cleveland park restaurants, this was one of the best dining experiences we have enjoyed. We arrived slightly late and there was no issue, and we were seated promptly. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable, and have out party great recommendations. The food was incredible-the purple haze cheese, burrata eggplant Parmesan, and Parmesan cheese fries were an excellent start to the meal--we licked the plates (literally!). Then for dinner we enjoye two of the pastas--the asparagus fettuccini and the pork cacciatore were both phenomenal. We also appreciated that several members of the team came to ask us about our experience-Thank you for a wonderful evening, we can't wait to come back!"

"I have been here four times and never been disappointed. The food is eclectic, but always wonderful. This time we had an asparagus soup with goat cheese and praline that was exquisite. The secret is to get the small plates and the various appetizers (flatbread) so that you can try different things. No one I have gone with has ever left less than enthused by the food and the service."

"Food was excellent; however, portions are small. Atmosphere was very loud, we had difficulty having a conversation. Facility is cold. Server did not show up for drink order for 15 minutes and disappeared for long periods during the evening. We wanted to order dessert (as we were still hungry) but server diasappeared for so long we gave up and ask the bartender to please find someone to run our check."

"I don't know how they made the Washingtonian top 100. The ambiance at the bar is fine, but the restaurant is down right depressing. Perhaps I ordered unwisely, but after 2 tries I found the food to be either over-concocted (brussel sprouts) or bland (chick peas, pork)."

"Both the scallop schnitzel and the salmon were delicious. Inventive and flavorful without being too clever. My wife had the mushroom pizza which had some smoky and truffle flavors the were both unusual and pleasant. Server was there with what we needed when we needed her. Wasn't when we didn't. "Easter brunch was great; over the phone, they were resistant to adding an extra place setting to our table, but when we got there, they were more helpful, as it was obvious other tables had an extra guest as well. Also, adding a 5th guest to a table of 4 shouldn't be a problem. The setting was nice though it was a little noisy from the multiple large groups. Our server was nice though a little loud."

"We went for Easter brunch. With the champagne option, it was $50 per person. It was not worth $50, either in ambience or presentation. The food was decent but, again, not for $50 per person. The whole time I felt gouged for a regular Sunday brunch just because the word Easter was in front of it. I might go here again for just a regular evening, but it'd be hard because it'd only remind me of an incredibly overpriced Sunday brunch.
Also another note, I didn't appreciate that I found out after I reserved on Open Table that I'd be charged for not using the reservation. That needs to be stated more clearly before I give my credit card info and click reserve, especially since I made my reservation within 72 hours of Easter."

"Perhaps if I had been more adventurous in my entree selection, I would have had a different reaction. I was totally "feeling" their pizzas, however, and was particularly drawn to the rock shrimp pizza in a white sauce. It was edible, but weird. My date got a meatball pizza that was much better, although not spectacular, but she agreed that mine was very odd and disagreeable. The brussels sprout side dish was nice. Decor and vibe was nice, service was good. Food is the thing, though, and there are many places I'd have to try first before coming back.
Yes, I could've sent my pizza back but just was not in the mood for all that rigamarole, especially since date's pizza was ok."

"We eat here often and love the food. On this visit the kitchen was very slow, not the server's fault.
The skate wing is one of my favorites, but this batch was overly salted. Finally, we were seated upstairs at the head of the stairs so it was not a great seat. Watched a parade if people enter and leave. Downstairs is a better seat. Still, would recommend the restaurant."

"Went to Ardeo + Bardeo for Brunch Saturday March 30, 2013 at 1PM, a party of 6. We all had the Bottomless Champagne Brunch. The food is good, not great. I think of myself as a foodie and not a snob. We all ordered different entrees and apps so we could try/share as many dishes as possible. I felt that nothing was amazing or a standout dish. The proportions were small and simple for the price. The service was good. Our waiter was helpful and polite with many of the other staff helping out to keep our drinks full. Note: bottomless champagne ends at 3:00PM and our bill had extraneous items that added more than $35 to our check. They were quickly fixed but this coupled with the difficult parking in the area leaves me reluctant to rush back"
