Masona Grill
Since the opening of Masona Grill in Spring 2006, chef/owner Manuel Sifnugel continues to challenge the boundaries of dining pleasure. Having created a unique dining experience with his previous restaurant Claremont Café, a long time South End favorite, Manuel has introduced the Parkway area and beyond to a fine New American cuisine with Mediterranean influence. Cilantro, lime, cumin, mint and ginger are key ingredients in Manuel’s cooking. His eclectic fare extends to the design and ambience of the restaurant. Colorful artwork, contemporary fixtures, hardwood floors and trendy pillows create a cozy yet upscale dining experience in a neighborhood restaurant.

"We have tried, and retried, this restaurant a number of times over the years. We return because the setting is intimate and casual. The food and service never fails to disappoint. The waitstaff are not friendly or attentive. The food is very average. The cocktails are poorly made. We will not return."

"This was our first visit to Masona Grill. We would highly recommend the ceviche appetizer (fresh, clean, moderately spicy, delicious), the scallop entree (which was a special), and the seafood chupe. I was a little concerned about the "tomato lobster cream" base of the chupe, thinking it may be heavy. I shouldn't have been. It was light, fresh, and divine; the seafood was perfectly cooked . We had a delicious chocolate cake for dessert and cups of decaf that were actually decaf - this happens less often than one would think. The staff was friendly and professional from the moment we walked in and clearly have a real love for the food and an affection for the restaurant in general. We'll be back."

"Friends introduced us to Masona Grill several years ago. Since then, we have become regulars.In fact, we have introduced many of our friends to Masona Grill and they, too have returned many times. The food is always exceptional.Dishes are prepared to maximize flavor and eye appeal. I can truly say that we have always had a wonderful dining experience there.
The wait staff is personable, attentive and accommodating. The owner, Manuel, is involved with all aspects of the restaurant and that contributes to making Masona Grill the kind of dining experience we enjoy most."

"Food & wait staff were great but the manager was not very pleasant and was rather annoyed when I asked if we could sit near some friends even though the table on the other side of us remained empty the whole time we were there. He must have been having a bad day and it was obvious he was not happy being there."

"Masona is a lovely restaurant with very tasty food. Tables are a bit small for 4 people and chairs do not have padded seats, which may make some people uncomfortable. We will return but not often because it is a bit pricey. All in all it is a good restaurant which offers excellent food."

Then no sooner had we received these than we were given our appetizers.
After the appetizers had been distributed, only then was the bread brought.
Literally within 30 secs of having taken away our appetizer plates our our main course was delivered.
Mine & others were dry & overcooked. Obviously they had been sitting out waiting for us to finish our appetizers.
Only after the main course did they slow down the ice!
None of us will be returning to that place."

"This is the second time we've eating at Masona Grill. The food was excellent, the service was excellent and the space, despite full tables, was quiet enough that we could hear each other easily. The space is broken down into small rooms, which helps. I loved the salmon with its little bit of excellent crispiness and the seaweed salad that came with my shrimp ceviche was a nice surprise. The desserts are made on site and I loved the ginger crust with the key lime pie. We had a chocolate torte (sorry, I forgot to pay attention to what it was called) which was out of this world. Later in April they will pair Austrian wines with various dishes. Overall, this place is a great find; we can't wait to return."

"A wonderful restaurant that I have visited several times--most recently during Restaurant Week. As always the food-cornmeal encrusted fried oysters, argentinian steak with chimichurri and fries, and flourless chocolate cake was wonderful with the exception of the steak which was a little tough. "Our server was fantastic and we were seated at a lovely window table with a view of the bar. The food came out hot, in a timely manner and was attractively presented! Portions were larger than I expected and all three courses were TASTY. As a celiac, Masona Grille is a GEM because their menu marks dishes (and there are a lot!) with a GF so you know right away you can eat- no waiting while they ask the kitchen, etc. My wine was very reasonably priced and delicious!I will be going back not just once more, but once a month more! For commuters, this is easy to access on the commuter rail as the stop is right across the street! Parking is also easy and free! Bonus!!!"

"It's only been a month since the last time I came here, but they have already added enough new innovative things to the menu that, once again, our meal felt original. We got the wontons, the eggplant carpaccio, the stuffed acorn squash, and the cod. I would give everything we ordered an A+ for innovation and taste. My wife and I continue coming back here because we get a great new experience every time.

"Waiter was forgetful. We had an 8:00 reservation and the restaurant was already out of the specials for the night. The serviche was too acidic w/ too much raw onion. The tuna entree was drowned to death in a soy/orange/sweet-sweet-sweet sauce that made the vegetables on the plate inedible. I wouldn't consider returning. One of the other patrons had the lamb shank which was incredibly dry and bland - a truly unremarkable dinner experience."

"We had a Groupon for dinner for 2 and I also knew they participated in IDine. The restaurant is a tad pricey, so between the two, you get a nice meal for reasonable cost, after you factor in drinks and full tip. The food was delicious though it took quite a while for our entrees, and it was not packed, at least when we first arrived, nor did our waiter ever advise or apologize for the delay. (He also initially forgot what I had ordered for wine and did not clear the plates after our appetizer, though he had been to the table when we finished.) We had the tuna appetizer, eggplant romana and duck 2 ways for entrees, and took the carrot cake home for dessert."

"My girlfriend and I went to dinner with a Groupon for 1 starter, 2 entrees, and 1 desert. The food wasn't anything to write home about. The mussels were good, cooked in the white wine broth. The sirloin steak,ordered medium rare, was cooked closer to medium. I could tell it was either the seasoning on the steak that wasn't right, or it was not a great cut of meat. The scallops were good alone, but the mushroom creation they sat on top of was bland. The chocolate cake was good. Service was slow, yet polite and friendly. It took over 2 hours to eat dinner, when it could have taken an hour or so. On a happier note, the Alexander Valley Cabernet was delicious."

"My wife had the seared scallops with ravioli and I had the seared tuna with leek dumplings, sweet soy, caramel vinegar and snow peas. They were both good but too sweet for our taste. The leek dumplings were tasty but the tuna was cooked too much and not the medium rare that I expected. In all, the food was good, the experience was nice but not worth $150 for two."

"Been here countless times, but this time I was disappointed. Our wine glasses were never refilled. Mussels were served without the usual utensils. The scallop dish that I had ordered in the past this time was a disappointment. The entire dish was overpowered by the flavor of the ravioli. I would not order it again. Granted, the restaurant was unusually crowded, but that doesn't account for inattentive service."

"Yummy. Generous portion sizes and tasty twist on "regular" food. Would recommend the mushroom bisque, any salad and the pork is always a good bet. I love that they have a gluten free labeled menu. The waiter asked why I eat gluten free and understood the strictness required with celiac disease."
