Mon Ami Gabi - Oakbrook
Mon Ami Gabi is a classic French bistro and steakhouse. The traditional menu features classics such as the warm Onion Soup Au Gratin, Frisée & Bacon Salad with a soft-poached egg and croutons, Roast Chicken grand-mère style with mushrooms, bacon and pearl onions, as well as the trademark Steak Frites. At lunch, we offer lighter fare including crepes, quiches and seasonal salads. Come in Saturday and Sunday for our weekend brunch, featuring a Build-Your-Own Bloody Mary Bar.
To complement the cuisine, an extensive selection of over 80 boutique French wine varietals are served by the glass or bottle from our signature rolling wine cart.

"It was my daughter's birthday and she loves a good cheese-plate. Mon Ami Gabi had exactly what we were all looking for. My son (9) loved the mini steak and frittes for kids and my daughter loved the dessert - banana crepes foster (Amazing)"

"We were seated 45 minutes after our reservation time, which had NEVER happened to us at this restaurant before. The manager more than made up for and our service once we sat down was amazing. The food was excellent -- as always -- especially the soup."

"I was kind of hoping for a bit broader brunch menu for Mother's Day, as the restaurant was promoting their brunch. We ended up just ordering off the regular menu and the food was good, not great. I've had better experiences there in the past. I think they're better at dinner than brunch."

"Took my partner and my folks out for Mothers Day dinner with a 6:45 reservation. Finally we're seated at about 7:15 and the waiter was right there to get drink and appetizer orders from our hungry crowd. Before he finished, the GM was there paying for our apps because of the wait. Smoked salmon and steamed mussels dispensed with -- both were very nice -- we moved on to soups and salads. My small Caesar salad would fit in the palm of my hand! Entrees were good not great. First choice of roasted chicken was 86-ed right before we ordered. Dad's hangar steak was tough cooked med-well. Mom's scallops were perfect, partner's trout was very good and my end cut prime rib was most excellent."

"The prices are way too high for what you get. We went to brunch and I ordered the Vanilla French Toast which was $11.00! All I got was 2 slices of dry french toast and a tablespoon of spiced apples. My daughter had the steak frites which she said was oily and only so so. This place is better for a drink and salad when the weather is warm and you can sit outside. Also it is a convenient location for people coming from all directions."

"We go to Mon Ami Gabi frequently, always a nice time, this past time was Mothers Day and I couldn't believe the circus! With reservations we waited almost 30 minutes for our table. The waiting area was extremely cramped and vey frustrating. I just don't under stand how with reservations they make you wait like that. It was a big turnoff and despite the food service from our waiter, I think we will not return."

"We have been going to this restaurant twice a year for many years. This time we took our 21 year old son and 87 year old father for a mothers day celebration. It was well below expectations. We felt we were an imposition to our waitress. She offered nothing special.The bus boy gave us far more attention. It was a special occasion for us (which we mentioned in our reservation) but no effort was made by the restaurant to recognize it. It was a super busy night and we felt herded as a result...didn't feel like special guests at all. Food was just average and my son's fish and chips was unappetizing to us all. (between the four of us, we didn't finish it). It'll be a while before we go back...overall, a disappointment for the first time."

"My wife and I went here for our anniversary and found it to be charming - with a true, european feel to both the restaurant and the food. We both had variations on the steak, which was cooked perfectly. We had a wonderful corner table and while the restaurant was packed, the noise level was such that you could still carry on a conversation.The wine list and choices were exceptional
I would note that you will want reservations as the wait without would have been around 2.5 hours on Saturday at 6:30
Overall, a fun and unique experience that we will definately repeat."

"First timers. We thought the restaraunt was a great find. Everything was wonderful starting with the valet attendents, to the hostess and to Bonnie our server. She was very frinedly and knowledgeable. The food was excellent and the atmosphere very pleasing.

"We had the Dover Sole Muenier and it was fantastic. Our server, Jim, was very knowledgeable of all aspects of the menu and wine list. We had the chicken liver mousse as an appetizer and it was delicious. The Chocolate Souffle was the best we ever had. It was not to sweet as many desserts tend to be.
We were disappointed in the serving of the bread. While the bread was warm, crusty and delicious, a knife and cutting board would have been nice. Also, the souffle was just placed on the table for us to serve ourselves. Most restaurants of this caliber would have served us."

"The wine list has taken a serious downgrade over the past couple of years (mostly since late 2011) and the food quality has deteriorated from its high point in the same timeframe. My last visit was almost six months ago, and I was hoping to see some recovery. The restaurant is well decorated and inviting with a French flair. The service is great. The food was fair. Steak Classique, a signature item, was prepared as requested, but was tough and chewy - apparently made from a substandard steak. The roast pork included large chunks of tough fat and connective tissue, indicating a rushed preparation, rather than the slow roasting that the meat requires. Sides, sauces, and desserts were great, the core meal, though, left us disappointed."

"I had a reservation for 7:30, arrived on time and was told by the hostess our table was ready and we would be seated momentarily. Based on this, we did not go enjoy a drink at the bar, but waited to be seated. 25 minutes later (and several inquiries about the "ready" table) we were seated. Had she simply told me our table was not ready, I would've gladly enjoyed a drink or two at the bar. But she kept insisting we would be seated "momentarily", so we stood waiting patiently."

"This is one of my go to restaurants. The food is usually very good, very good. The wait staff on the other hand just isn't consistent. They can be abrupt and rushed, not return to follow up on an item that's been served, refills on water are always good, but refills for iced/hot tea, coffee, and soft drinks are usually missed....anyway, service is hit or miss. "I really love the consistency, good food, great service and overall wonderful-ness of Mon Ami Gabi. Yes, it is in a mall which stinks, but it is in Oak Brook so you will either be in a mall, a stripe mall or alone mall like building. Although parking is annoying, the valet is a measly $4.00. Fast and efficient. The service her is great, the wine list is very good for being relatively small, the food consistently good, and the prices more than acceptable.
Overall we go, we go pretty often and we walk away happy, full and satiated.
Also, they are good with kids and highchairs if you call ahead and you have well behaved munchkins."

"everything we ordered was terrific and our waiter was extremely attentive throughout the meal, without being intrusive! as this rather high level of service was in stark contrast to what we've experienced in numerous Paris bistros, for greater authenticity, we suggest that MAG wait staff learn to display complete indifference and require a search party to be found after each order is placed. :-)"

"We love mon ami and go there often. The purpose of our visit on april 12 was to celebrate our anniversary. I had indicated that on our open table reservation, and also that we wanted a nice corner table for 2 in the main dining room, but that seems to not have been communicated to the person who tried to seat us in the back room next to an infant. Dont get me wrong, Im a grandmother of 4 and love little kids, but this was the opposite of our request. we were reseated in a fine spot, with a great waiter, but it was dissapointing that our special requests had been ignored. No, we did not tell the manager, I suppose we should have, but the system should have worked better. Will we go back, of course."

"The food was good but unfortunately the arrival of food was fairly slow. The appetizer we ordered they had run out of which delayed things. They gave us another option and comped us though. Food was cooked well and good. Unfortunately the crepe we ordered was quite cold. We had requested not to be seated by the kitchen and they seated us as close to the kitchen as they could. We asked and were switched but I hate to have to bring that up. It tends to happen every time we dine there."

"Dinner and service were exceptional here. We made reservations for 6:30 p.m. and were seated promptly. We started with a huge and delicious shrimp cocktail -large enough to share. I had the hanger steak and my husband had the special, which was three filets wrapped in very think bacon. We shared the grilled asparagus. Everything was delicious. The service was impeccable. We were there for our anniversary and the staff treated us like gold - sending over two glasses of champagne and seating us in a corner table/booth that provided some privacy plus a great view of the restaurant. It was a special evening and we highly recommend the restaurant. Make reservations!"

"We love Mon Ami Gabi. The food and service are always exceptional. Our location is extremely popular so I highly recommend reservations ahead of time if at all possible. The frisee salad with bacon and poached egg is phenomenal. Prices are a little higher than average, but worth it for special occasions."

"The food-excellent! My date ordered the special: Bacon Wrapped Filet Medallions which were so tender you could cut them with a fork! The ambiance was that of a Parisian Bistro with beautiful tile floors. Although full of hard surfaces, the restaurant was not loud at all, and lent itself to normal conversation without having to shout across a table to be heard. As it was a VERY busy Saturday evening, the waitstaff was a bit harried and not as attentive as normal, but they cannot be faulted for that as they did their very best to keep up with table requests in a very professional manner. I definitely recommend the Braised Short Rib with root vegetable purée, as well as the Country Pâté which was very authentic. Outstanding!!"

"We went on a Saturday evening. As opposed to the lunch time, this restaurant was overcrowded. They were oversold and the reservation was not respected; 30 minutes late. The place was too noisy and the tables are too close to each other impeding ease of movement for guests and staff. Very uncomfortable feeling and practically no privacy between tables. Food was just ok but service was splendid."
