Firebox Restaurant, located in the historic Billings Forge, one block from the State Capitol, serves seasonal contemporary American cuisine, in a casually elegant setting. Guests enjoy the white-washed brick, warm fireplace and handmade Amish farm tables of our back dining rooms. The impressive front bar area with it's exposed brick, wood beams and vaulted ceilings, houses a lively bar scene focusing on innovative cocktails and an impressive wine selection.

"Great service. We arrived 30 minutes past our reservation when they were closing the kitchen and I told them we were late because of a long-running ceremony and they were more than compliant in seating us. Beer selection was excellent and the food was rather delicious. Even the vegetarian option was amazing. The only qualm I have is that the meat dishes provided little meat yet had plenty of vegetable filler."

"Five of us had brunch at the Firebox this week and although the food was wonderful, creative, and fresh, the time it took to get the food once our order was taken was unacceptable. It was at least 45 minutes from order taking to food delivery. The server did not check on us so we could ask about the time. Everyone was starving by the time the food arrived. We have been here multiple times and have not had this issue before. Usually, the pace is perfect. Hopefully, this is not the new normal."

"The food was quite good, but the server was so clearly overwhelmed by the fact that the restaurant was uncharacterically busy that she constantly communicated her stress to us. When we left the restaurant, we found that my car window had been smashed while I ate dinner. It was parked on the street, just down from the restaurant."

"We celebrated our daughters graduation at the Firebox. We were not in a hurry, but the staff immediately asked us if we were attending a performance or just enjoying a night out so they could gauge the speed of their service. Two separate rooms distance diners who wish a more moderate to quiet atmosphere from patrons visiting and dining in the bar area (and any musical group playing for the afternoon or evening). Food at Firebox consistently is outstanding, as is the service. Plating is beautiful and diners know that this restaurant is truly a "gem.""

"Firebox was a great find and beyond my expectations. We were in town from Montreal for a wedding and it was our first time in Hartford. Firebox definitely ranks up there with the best that Montreal has to offer. All the courses from start to finish were prepared with fresh ingredients, creative and well balanced throughout. Nice selection of cocktails and brews to start and a good wine list. Well done Firebox."

Only downer was that we asked for a quiet table but were put in the back room where a group of 10 very enthusiastic ladies were celebrating a special occasion. We noticed other restaurant guests were also bothered by the sound levels emanating from that table.
PS We have been to Firebox for brunch when there were more people in total but were able to hear ourselves."

"Overall it was a good experience. Now that it's off my bucket list I likely will not return. The ambiance, physical structure, decor, etc is very cool and unique. The old foundry restored is a great space for a restuarant and they did a great job. The food was very good, though the portions were quite small. My party of six also felt the prices were through the roof. For six people we shared three appetizers. Each had our own dinner. We also shared three deserts. We only ordered 11 mixed drinks and beers - no wine or bottles and the tab was nearly $500.00 without tip. Overall experience was for the moeny spent we could have dined elsewhere and saved $200.00."

"Waitress knew we when we arrived that we had a tight time line (50 minutes) before we had to be at an event. Gave her our order, in Tavern, immediatey unpon arriving. She brought drinks, then disappeared. After 35 minutes we had to get up to track her down. One meal arrived, other did not. Told her never mind, but she said it was just put on the grill and brought it anyway, as we were leaving the table. Boxed it to go and didn't charge us, but doesn't make up for no meal and absent waitress."

"A terrific restaurant and one we regret not trying until our daughter is about to graduate from Trinity College. It's nestled in the heart of a gritty neighborhood, just down the street from Trinity College. The neighborhood is a busy one for locals and people not used to that kind of scene may be put off by the location, but just go... it's a fabulous place. Our family of four had Sunday brunch and everything was beautifully presented. The ingredients are fresh and the combination of flavors exceptional. We had the Eggs Benny, Waffles and the Burger, all cooked to perfection. Why did we wait so long to try this place?!?!"
