The signature dish at Legal Sea Foods – really fresh fish.
Virginia is for lovers (of seafood)! Our two-story restaurant is double the fun with entrances on both levels for easy entrée. Choose to make a splash in the downstairs dining room or in the bar upstairs. Our landscaped interior patio is also a popular lure.

"I met a business colleague for a discussion over lunch. I wanted to make a good impression without being pretentious. We were promptly seated by a courteous staff which was solicitous without being too attentive. Service was very prompt. Advice was informed. The food (crab cakes, greek salad with salmon) was very good - the food was flavorful, well-prepared, and properly (not over-) seasoned. We had a booth which was comfortable for a business discussion. Legals Tysons is now on my short list for business meals."

"It was a very relaxing meal. Since I was in no hurry that was fine. Had I been in a hurry, I would have found it slow. Great wine experience with their "Flight" of Chilean wines. Generous portions as most restaurants have. I had planned to order take out for my husband, but took half of my meal home for him instead. The food was good. I had catfish with shrimp and andouille sausage; my daughter had fish and chips (but instead of chips had vegetables). It was easy to substitute items on the menu - which was appeciated. There is sufficient room between tables for you to feel you can have a reasonably private conversation. The noise level was not nearly as high as in many restaurants - again, much appreciated."

"Legal has good seafood. The crowd mix at 6pm / Saturday was families with kids, couples, and prom dates. On time table. The kids made it loud inside, so we asked to be seated “outside”, which is in the mall. The noise level was not BAD inside and but was a bit better. The prom dates made for good entertainment.
We like the seafood, ordered oysters (fresh and meaty), mix grill, cioppino, grilled salmon, all good with large servings. Teenage son hates seafood and ordered chicken. Liked it. Wish they had more non-seafood alternatives.
Service was great. There when we needed her and not there when we did not. I think we got manager attention because we used opentable. She comp’ed a spoon-size dessert for each. Nice touch. It was a good meal."

"Our main reason for going was the crab dip and on Mother's day we were told they had run out! So my 96 year old mother was very disappointed.
Also her favorite dessert of banana's foster is no longer on the menu. So she was not as happy as we had planned for this mother's day celebration.

"It was a great place to have our girls' night dinner mother's day weekend. It was appropriate for both my daughter as well as family members with discerning tastes. I didn't feel like we garnered stares or distaste for bringing a 2.5 year old, and we didn't have any trouble finding things for her to eat either. Great all around fit."

"My husband raved about this place and he order what he thought was the perfect dish for me. The dish had catfish, rice, shrimp and sasauges. The fish just taste like butter with no other seasoning. My husband wasn't too impressed with his meal either. However, the Moscato was the best I ever tasted. We were trying to have a romatic dinner and ended up with an expensive meal that was unflavorful. I don't think I would want to go back here again."

"I found it disappointing for the money it cost. I ordered the shrimp and it was extremely bland, so I asked for some cocktail sauce. The sauce also had no taste and it was as if it was out of a bottle, and not a good bottle. The calamari was good though. I expect excellent food for that kind of money and that is not what we received. We will not be returning!"

"Our lobsters were delicious, and we very much enjoyed our dinner here, but you just can't get away from the fact that you are sitting in a shopping mall, as most of the tables (in the main downstairs section) look out into the shopping centre. This does impact on the whole dining experience, especially when eating something like lobster, which is generally (to me) regarded as a treat! The upstairs section is a little more intimate."

"Be careful when dealing with the hostess, as they may need additional instruction. My hostess failed to locate my reservation confirmation for a lunchtime table of 4, despite being told that I had made one via open table. As a result, I thought I was waiting for my party to arrive. However, the same hostess had previously sat my 3 guests at a another table (on the other side of the restaurant). Despite my guests giving clear instruction to her, the hostess did not realize that a reservation was already made (even after I tried to provide the reservation number)."

"Overall, excellent. Two areas for improvement: the "crispy" calamari, while good was not that crispy & we were bombarded with mamager, assist. mgr, I think, and waitresses asking how our food was. Once or twice is plenty. More becomes annoying. Waitress said, after the fact, we could have asked for the calamri to be very crisp. We just thought it would arrive that way given the desciption.
Salmon and Rainbow Trout were delicious. Waitress cheery and efficient. They all seemed VERY anxious for us to be happy."

"First time at this particular restaurant though I am a frequent visitor to other LS sites elsewhere. Overall a very good experience. House offered a free sampler dish for first time opentabler. Good food. Waitress was the most friendly. Would recmd to mall shoppers."

"We eat here fairly often. The seafood is dependably fresh and it is one of the few places this Connecticut Yankee can find fried whole belly Ipswich clams. I rarely eat dessert, but had the Boston Cream Pie on Saturday night. Wow, not your average pie! It was delicious."

"I really loved our wait attendant-Cassie! She was attentive, pleasant and made solid food recommendations. The dish I had-almond crusted salmon was good. Too much butter and sauce which took away from the excellent food combinations. The spinach was dripping in butter-way overboard. My guest had the stuffed shrimp and were not impressed. When you consider the price of the dishes it didn't align with the final product. I don't think our hostess was fully engaged in the process of selecting tables or assessing the size of the group. I am over 6 ft tall and over 200 lbs and one of my guest is close to 300 lbs. She took us to a booth. Of course we suggested a table and she redirected us."

"We have been there before, and had a great time, but I think they were just having a bad night. I went there specifically for the catfish, which they ran out of. So, I ordered the Cod, which was flavorless. I asked for a side of risotto and was told that the chef had only prepared enough for the entree that it was served with. I was told by the manager to "call ahead" the next time I was coming if I had any special requests like that. She gave me her business card with someone's name, address, and phone number on the back - so I gave it back to her. SERIOUSLY?? I need to call ahead to make sure that their kitchen has prepped enough food?? It is doubtful we will ever go back to that location."

"My plate had five items - three 3 ounces pieces of fish, shrimp and scallops. All three pieces of fish were undercooked yet both the shrimp and scallops were overcooked and tough. How does that happen? Line cooking with no attention to detail or individual plates is my guess.

"The service was excellent, though the food was disappointing. We went to have fish on a Friday in Lent. My whole entree was bland- the fish was not seasoned at all, my broccoli was tough and watery, and the potatoes were fair at best. My husband's meal was not much better, with the andouille sausage as the only flavor in his louisiana catfish entree. Our server, however, was very pleasant and attentive."

"Several of us ordered the lobster roll which is only on the lunch menu but is available if you ask at dinner. Always good. They have a gluten free menu and brought two gluten free rolls for my granddaughter which she enjoyed. Have never had a bad meal there."
