"We had visitors here for GWU graduation and in advance we raved about Proof. Appetizers were good but the main entree's found two plates of Halibut being dried out and basically overcooked. The lamb loin featured vegetables that were also overcooked and in a "paste" in the bottom of the bowl. The desserts were excellent but for a $400 dinner we had expected more."

"We've been to Proof several times, has always been very very good. Awesome wine list, great sommelier who is super helpful. The food delights, and the scallops were exceptionally fine - although all 3 of us had great salads and entrees. The pacing was perfect, and the selection of after dinner treats appropriate. We left feeling satisfied without bloated, and talked about great memories the next day and beyond. This last visit had no false notes of wine, food, or service."

"Our party of six thought everything was delicious. we shared the Wild Boar Salume, Pâté Campagne with Pistachios and Cherries, Whipped Pipe Dreams and the Sautéed Potato Gnocchi. "We went to celebrate my husband's birthday. It is definitely priced for special occasions (unless you normally spend about $70 +/a person)
The food was hands down amazing. All the ingredients were of the highest quality. We enjoyed everything we ordered. Especially great were the meatballs and the goat cheese dip. Also, the toffee cake was off the charts.

"Such wonderful, creative food, such poor service! We were at Proof at 5:30, with a reservation, and waited 20 min. before a waiter came to our table. We were going to the Caps game at 7:00; we did not get to the game, just across the street, until 7:20. We had to inhale our delicious entree as it did not arrive until 6:50. What a shame!

"The reviews we read were good, but still understated what a terrific restaurant this is. We ate tapas style, and the food was outstanding. The wine list is unbelievable, both in terms of selection as well as price (spend as much as you want!). We ended up ordering several different two-ounce pours, which were very reasonably priced. This allowed us to sample many wines we would otherwise not get the chance to, including six we checked off our Century Club list. If you're lucky enough to get Ann as your server, then you're in for a treat. She was the best!"

"Great spot with unique approach. Serious food and amazing wine list in a more casual, comfortable atmosphere. Lots of different ways to eat also. Charcuterie, cheese and wine with a small plate and desert; a cocktail, appetizer and entree, many choices at different price levels though what you have them bring up from a great wine cellar will mostly determine your bill. If you like great wine and want a great meal in a comfortable atmosphere this is the place to go."

"Proof is a good restaurant, but it is not a Top 10 restaurant - definitely top 30, but not a Top 10.
That being said the food was good and the service was strong - efficient, but lacking in soul. Beer list was okay (it should be better) - we ordered Stillwater Stateside Saison, Unibroue Fin du Monde Trippel (both excellent) and Flying Fish Exit 4 Trippel (poor).
The house made Charcuterie was good, but not exceptional. For the First course we ordered spicy meatballs (excellent) and the House Mozzarella with Heirloom peppers (forgettable). For the second course we ordered the Roasted Chicken Breast (excellent) and the Tagliatelle with Lamb Bolognse (poor). For desert, we ordered Chocolate Hazelnut Cake (average at best)."

"Proof rightly deserves ranking in the top 10 restaurants in D.C. The great thing about Proof, that although it is expensive, it is reasonable in comparison to the other top 10 and uses the traditional menu format--rather than a prix fixe menu. The servers are incredibly knowledgeable of the content of the menu and offer thoughtful suggestions. I love this restaurant and would gladly go back at any time."

"This was our first visit to Proof. The six of us were seated in a large comfortable booth, cozy but not crowded. We ordered a wonderful wine after a suggestion from the sommelier. We shared many small plates, as well as some entrees and desserts. The food was different and delicious. We enjoyed and finished every dish. We would definitely return."

"We greatly enjoyed our dinner at Proof. From the ahi tuna tartare, to the gnocchi, to the tofu napoleon and flat iron steak, everything was well-presented and delicious. The only reason we didn't give it 5 stars is less due to the portion sizes (small but not terribly so...and honestly, it's kind of nice to not walk away completely stuffed) than the price...pretty steep (in the end, for 5 of us, it was $100 each - that did include 1 bottle wine, 4 cocktails). We may go back for a really special occasion, but probably not."

"Consistently wonderful! The service was friendly, accommodating (we wanted to change our table location), timely (everything came out perfectly timed) and the taste and presentation were lovely. The ahi tuna is just perfect and plentiful (a larger portion than many other restaurants) and the cauliflower side dish is tasty and unique, I could go on . . . . . :-)"

"This was our second time at Proof. This time beside me and boyfriend, we took my mom, my brother, and my two daughters (ages ranging from 76 - 11), and everyone had a great time. The food is wonderful, and even though there's a bar scene and the music is kind of classic rock (at just the right volume), it works for everyone. My mom never said it was noisy, my kids (though use to nice resturants) never thought is was to old school boring, or bar like. I don't mark this kid friendly though because my kids have been doing grown-up, more adventurous fare for a long time. So, I don't know howe the chick-nugget crowd would fare. But, my kids certainly felt welcome."
