"first and foremost the food was excellent. absolutely top notch. the server was just not engaged in the experience. i simply wanted to substitute the standard side for one of the premium sides, which should be easy and i would assume better for business and of course her tip. she spoke as if it was a huge change to do this. my drinks were empty twice, which drives me insane. the salad never came, and it took about 20 minutes just to get drinks to start with."

"Server took so long to come take our order, and she wasn't knowledgeable about the menu..didn't feel being at a luxury restaurant considering the prices. Steak was okay, chicken piccatta was terrible, too much sauce. space is very small considering to the amount of table and people there and piano player was good but too loud."

"The filet was amazing! The shrimp cocktail was by far the biggest shrimps I have had any where for a longtime. They were awesome My husband and I enjoyed the whole experience and will definitely be back!"

"The Top is a restaurant that everyone who lives in the central Ohio area should go to at least once. The food is amazing and the drinks are the best in town. This is a restaurant that is important because they truly believe that the diner should have not just dinner but a dining experience. You can't help but leave The Top with a smile on your face."

"We had the special bone in ribeye that night and it was spectacular. I highly recommend having them add the garlic butter for that extra bit of flavor. The dressing on the house salad is very tasty. A little bit tangy and a little bit sweet and not too much heat. The only disappointing piece was the mac & cheese. For as much as I saw people rave about it in the reviews, for us it was just ok and nothing great."

"We have been loyal customers for twenty plus years. Never had a bad meal yet!! We live in Sunbury now but still head back often. If you have never had the sauteed mushrooms you are in for a treat!! The ribs are also a hidden gem."

"The atmosphere is a throwback to the supper clubs my parents would take us to on special occasions. The place is showing it's age a bit, but that is part of the charm. The piano bar also featured a bass player and a singer the night we were there. Charming. The steaks and king crab legs were to die for. Huge portions, some of the best flavors we ever put in our mouths. If you haven't been to this place, you are missing out on the best steak experience in Columbus."

"I made a reservation to celebrate my fiancées 30th birthday at The Top, having heard very good things. I called ahead and asked for a bottle of champagne to be ready upon our arrival, as a surprise. No problem, she said.
When we arrived, it was clear that the hostess had completely forgotten about this request. A waiter seemed to have forgotten as well. They did not seem very apologetic about their mistake. The service overall was average at best. I expected much better at what I was told was one of Columbus' best restaurants. I had hoped for much better ... especially on my fiancée's 30th birthday.
The good news? The ambience is terrific and the piano player is a wonderful touch for a romantic evening."

Everything was fine until a group of four including one loud individual were seated right in the middle of the room. Although other tables in the room noticed the staff did not react to it.
We ordered two lobster tail dinners with baked potato and salad / vegetable. The lobster was rough (a LOT OF SCRAP). The vegetable was hard (undercooked).
We go there 5 or 6 times a year (over last 20 years) always for the lobster. Quality was never an issue. Customers pay $150 for two lobster tails (not including tip). One should expect quality. This was not the case. Very Disappointing."

"Was visiting Columbus for a production of Les-Mis. Post musical high, this meal was the perfect ending to a perfect evening. A retro feel accompanied one of the best steaks I've ever had. A surprise bagpipe performance added to the quirky charm of the restaurant. So pleased to have found this gem and would certainly return in the event that we visit Columbus again."

"I liked that the amount of food you get for the price is a very good deal. I really enjoyed the house Italian dressing. The Kansas Strip Steak lacked some flavor. It was nice sitting outside until the smokers showed up. The Top should make their outdoor dining area non-smoking. They were accomodating when my party asked to move back inside due to the cigarette smoke."

"We stood at the entrance for at least 10 minutes before we caught someone to inquire about our reservations. We sat at our table for 10 minutes until we stopped a random employee to ask for menus. This was the theme the rest of the night . Felt like they were to bothered to care for us. Food was great but for the price expected better service."

"We had not been back to The Top for a number of years, since we live out of town. We were so happy to find that it remains a truly memorable dining experience. Delicious food, wine, martini, and excellent service and ambience. Love, love, loved listening to Dave Powers sing and play the piano. "The Top is a superb steakhouse. It's not pretentious or trendy, the food is the focus. I had the 12-ounce filet on 5/3/13, which may have been the best filet I've ever had. I love the '60s atmosphere, with the piano playing in the background, and the reasonably priced drinks and dinners. Considering that the entire dinner cost less than just the entrée at Mitchell''s Steakhouse, and was far superior, this is the best value in high-end steaks in the city."

"We have been eating at this restaurant for over 40years. Many owners, but the food quality continues to remain constant. This dinner my wife and I had 2 four ounce lobster tail, very well done hash browns and a salad for $21 each. The waiter said this was a special because the chef said to sell them. we were there on April 15 Monday night and the waiter again said this maybe a Monday night special. My wife had a shrimp coctail with five large shrimp and very tasty. Overall the food remains the best part of the evening and more than enough to eat. Enjoy the taste and enjoy the special price for the lobster tails."

"The Top is a throwback to a 60's steak house, and that is meant in a good way. The main dining area is small, dark, and intimate, and the bar is ample in comparison. The service is impressive: it's obvious that the wait staff have been well-trained, as they are attentive but not in-your-face. Of course, the standout is the food, and the steaks can go up against all the other primo steak houses in Central Ohio. I also like the fact that this restaurant is not part of a larger franchise, as is the case with the other aforementioned steak houses in town."

"Service was terrible, appetizers brought out with dinner, no drink refills, didn't check to make sure the meal was good, set our food on the floor when it was boxed up after waiting 20 for someone to offer assistance."

"Really enjoyed the food. I have lived by the top most of my life, but this was only my third trip. I really enjoyed my steak, but thought it was very expensive.I was told it was a special which was fine. It was a tbone special. I got the bill, and it was $57. I was a little shocked to find this out, since the menu didn't list anything over $48."

"The Top has fantastic steak, but the atmosphere is a little lacking. The bar area is huge, but the tables are stuck in a tiny little section. If you aren't in a booth the servers will run into you, bump into the table, etc. The space is crowded, and loud. It was nice having live music but you couldn't really hear over the piano. There was plenty of staff, and they were all attentive and almost chatty. The food, though, was fantastic. And really, that's what counts."

"I had the prime rib and veggie medley with a salad and french fries. The Prime Rib was good but I probly should have gotten it medium rare instead of medium since it tasted too much like roast beef medium. The veggie medley was Outstanding. The salad was very good too with the kind of dressing only found in good restaurants. If you go to The Top you MUST order the BEST french fries you'll ever have!! They musy fry them in fat and the skin is left on for even more flavor. My fiance had the Rb Eye which was OUTSTANDING!You can taste the grill on the steak. MMMM. FYI dont let them sit you next to the fireplace. It's very hot."

"This was my first visit to The Top and I will definitely be back! The mussel appetizer with a white wine marinara and chorizo was out of this world. I would go back just for that. My friend ordered the filet and I ordered the prime rib. Both cuts of meat were perfectly prepared. The tossed salad was a good size and the house dressing has just the right mix of tang and sweet. We skipped out on dessert but only because we were so full from our delicious meals!"

"The primary reason for only two stars for service is because we weren't sat until 45 minutes after our reservation time, and while waiting we were asked what our name was on four different occasions. The table service could have been better, but we weren't in any hurry so maybe didn't mind it so much."
