Markt is an authentic Belgian brasserie offering traditional fare including mussels and frites, carbonnade, lobster, steak-frites, an extensive raw bar...plus waffles and plenty of Belgian chocolate! An antique marble and zinc bar features 32 Belgian brews and a tasty assortment of cocktails. Outdoor seats provide the perfect spot for enjoying it all.
"the restaurant has great hours (one of the earlier ones if you can't make it to bunch time!), good mussels, croque madames, and an amazing selection of belgian beers. can't complain as it's kept my HANGER (hunger + anger) levels down when i've been in a pinch for food! i really do love the hours and the fact that i can take my dog there and sit outside on nice days."

"I got the waffle and it was absolutely delicious. The only thing I wished for was a little more food. It wasn't a very heavy waffle which was nice, but I don't really eat a lot in general. I should not have needed to order more!"

"Fabulous selection of beer, each served in its own specialty glass, as it should be. Delicious mussels and frites. A lively place to go off the beaten tourist track of the city, but if you're looking for intimacy, don't go at peak times--it can get very loud and you'll be sitting shoulder to shoulder with people at neighbouring tables, plus the staff gets rushed off their feet and may not be as attentive. If you want a real European experience, this is it."

"Great Belgian food, ales and atmosphere. We loved the interior. I can not call this place romantic because it is really really loud inside. They have excellent wine and beer selection which attracts lots of people from around the town. Food was A+++ Highly recommended, especially for those who know what real beer taste like."

"I brought my Belgian friends to Markt because they wanted to see if the food was similar to the way it is cooked in Belgium. They did find the food tasty albeit a bit too salty for our taste, which might not be a problem for other diners. They loved the decor which made them feel like they were back in Belgium. However they felt that the staff was not warm and friendly, except for the bus boy. I will not return because there are other Belgian restaurants to check out, which might have friendlier staff and less salty food."

"I always stop here when I am in the city. Whether you are having a burger or lobster the food is incredible. The Dutch specialities are amazing. I highly recommend the lobster in the pan. Split lobster with julienne vegetables. Yum yum The salads are great. Get an order of the French fries. Best fries anywhere"

"I have been a long-time customer of Markt back to when they were in the Meatpacking District. There mussels are wonderful paired with the frites...mmmm. But the service has diminished over the past couple years - to a new low a couple of days ago. The wait and bus staff seem to be really unhappy and uncaring. Our busboy was muttering under his breath everytime he came to the table and never spoke - even when asked a question.
I recommend stopping in briefly for the mussels. But go somewhere else if service is important."

"The food here is normally decent, and it's definitely one of the better lunch/dinner options around 6th Ave. My burger, though ordered rare, came out close to well done, and the cheese, which I had declined, was on it anyway. The waiter sort of shrugged this off. Shouldn't be so hard to get something right when it's as simple as a burger."

"Very nice brunch. $3 for each cup of coffee was a little steep in this particular setting, especially when not clear from the menu, which caused me to take away a star (for value) in the overall category."

"I went here for brunch once, the food was pretty good so I decided to give dinner a try because this place has a great beer selection. My girlfriend and I ordered a salad that was small, not that special, and priced more than it should have been. My girlfriend's mussel dish came out tasting like salt and my dinner was pretty good, though not memorable. I'd stop into this place and get some beers any day, possibly an appetizer, but this would not be a place I'd sit down and eat."

"Our cousin works here and has been telling us about how good the food is for quite some time. We finally decided to try it so we grabbed another couple and off to the City we went. It was a Sunday reservation so both the atmosphere & ambience was very relaxed and welcoming. The waitress attended to us right away so that was pleasing. We ordered the Lobsterbisque (delish), Curry Mussels (super delish), lobster pot pie (OMG Slap yo' momma type DELISH), Scallops (Very tasty) and the tuna tartar (yum yum yum)! To wet the palate we went straight for the Belgian delights. That triple fruity beer was amazing! We were pleasantly stuffed when we left there. The couple that tagged along w/us is still talking about the food @Markt and so are we!!"

"An early dinner in a sunny room on 6th Avenue. Excellent endive salad. Limited choice of wine by the glass. Moules were OK but somehow a little disappointing. Bread could have been better; frites were fine. Glad we ate there."

"I had been in Belgium the week before, so this was a chance to verify how authentic this cozy Belgian bistro really is. The beer list is excellent and all te dishes are tasty and authentic. A great experience."

"Efficient service, very good food. Fresh seafood cooked as per customer spec. Popular but no feeling of being rushed. Could be good for business meet or a date, though not particularly family friendly."

"As a single diner at the bar, my male bartender (Robert?) was the most accommodating Ive had in ages. He made me feel valued as a single stressed traveler when all the restaurant was abuzz with large, loud groups. I'd return if he is the way that service goes here."

"Nice ambiance lacking stuffy pretension. The portions were generous, especially the pate starter and the mussels. While the servers were very nice, they were not as attentive as we would have liked (eg. we had to ask for more water several times)."

"I was hoping to have a relaxing date night with my partner but felt insanely rushed. We both ordered oysters, soup, and an entree and the entire dining experience lasted 30 minutes. The service here was just plain poor. The food runner slammed down our plates multiple times and palmed our drinks to move them out of his way. (Thanks for your germs sir!). Our soup and entrees came out together even though we asked to have multiple courses. Our server failed to follow up with us once she knew the kitchen made an error. We barely touched our soups and got through half our entrees since everything got cold so quickly and we just felt overwhelmed/rushed. Only service minded person was the hostess. This is not a place for a relaxing evening."

"I can't wait to return ! The food and service were outstanding. I went with a group of 8 for brunch and we had a wonderful time. The cocktail menu was delicious, and the brunch menu was among one of the greatest I've encountered. The location was perfect and our reservation was ready when we arrived. Our server was attentive and genuine . I am a vegetarian and there were plenty of options on the menu. The tuna nicoise was amazing!"
