"This was my first time to Plaza III and found myself very disappointed. The food was good, but that is really not the description you want for the amount you have to pay, I would have been just as satisfied with a steak at any other restaurant, it did not stand out. The biggest reason for my disappointment would be due to the atmosphere, many of the patrons were not dressed appropriately (shorts, hawiian shirts etc) This was suppose to be a special night out for me and the wife and while we were only dressed business casual we actually felt over dressed in comparison to the other patrons. It felt like a place for the wealthy to grab a quick meal rather than a place to celebrate a special occasion. I will not return on my own dime! Pinky Up!"

"We were driving back to KY, from CO, and stopped over in KC. We decided to try Plaza III. The service was excellent. They bring out veggies to snack on, before you order. The crab cake appetizer was great. We shared a steak entrée. We were tired from our drive and too full for dessert, but our waitress had shown us the desert tray and asked us what we would have picked.
Before we left, she gave us a bag with the 2 desserts we said we would have gotten, had we not been so full. It was a very nice touch. We plan to go back and try some other menu items on our next visit."

"My wife and I went to Plaza III to celebrate a major anniversary. We had not been there for several years, but both remember some of the best steaks we have ever had at the restaurant over the years. We could not have been more disappointed in the quality of the food. I am not a connoisseur, so maybe it was just a poor chef. J. Alexander's in Overland Park has much better steaks at half the price. We could have done Capital Grille or Ruth Chris and had a top quality dinner. The salads were average, at best, and the creamed spinach was generous quantity, but not very good. It is sad for a Kansas City hallmark to be so average."

"Our experience Monday night at The Plaza 3 was not a favorable experience. Our reservations were for 4:00, when we got there we were told the restaurant did not open till 5:00 and they tried to call us, but no answer and no one was there take care of us at this time. We could come back at 4:30 but only for drinks, the servers would be in at 5:00. Both my husband and I checked our phones and no calls were received from the restaurant. So we waited till 5:00. We had a 4 month old baby with us, which they were informed at the time of reservations. The high chair that was given to us to use was old and unstable. Half way through dinner my son's baby FELL our of the chair head first on to the floor. Needless to say we were shocked."

"Ok we have lived in KC for over 5 years and have dined at Plaza III several times just the two of us,and with groups and family. Almost every time it turns into a disaster ! Bad, and I mean bad service , slow and like they dont care, wrong food etc. etc. Well this time was different! Great service Great food and everyone seemed pleasant. You have your choice of upscale steak restaurants in KC and especially on the Plaza but what none of the other restaurants have is the ambiance and the history of the Plaza III. In my opinion if you have not been to Plaza III in a while I would say give it another try, there is no other restaurant in KC like it."

"I think that steakhouses should be able to send out steaks that are properly cooked. We both asked for our steaks to be cooked medium. What came out from the kitchen were two steaks that were cooked to well done. Mine had absolutely no pink. If the focus of the restaurant is on steaks they should know how to properly cook them.
They also do a little tutorial before you order where they show you different types of steaks. Maybe the waiter should have listen to his own speech because he brought me a fillet instead of the Kansas City Strip that I ordered.
Ultimately, I wouldn't recommend this place."

"I had requested a more private table to celebrate my husband's new job, but they seated us right next to a group of stuffy businessmen (who goes to a steakhouse and doesn't order wine?!?) and any conversation felt loud and awkward. The food was delicious as always, but the service was rushed and unexceptional. We will stick with Captial Grille going forward."

"This was our first time having dinner at the Plaza III. We went on a Groupon. I was hoping for the best, but after this and other recent experiences elsewhere, have learned that if a highend established restaurant is running a Groupon, there must be a problem...and I was right. The Porterhouses we both ordered were tough and had zero flavor. For the money, next time I would go to The Capital Grille where I know the food is always good. I hate to say that because I would rather support a KC original instead of a chain, but it is what it is. I feel like a lot of longtime resturants are resting on their laurels these days which won't work for long in the restaurant world."

"For the avid meat eater, there are some places where ordering a steak is often met with buyer's remorse because it doesn't taste much better than a home grilled slice of meat. At Plaza III, they grill meat in a way that can't be experienced at home. The cut is perfect, the color is just as ordered, and the taste is phenomenal. It's not a meal the average person can enjoy on a regular basis, but it is certainly a great choice for special occasions."

"Our first time to this location. Seating was prompt. Waitress was cordial and the explanation of the food choices was very pleasing. The service needs 'tweaking'...too long between seating and the setting of the appetizer bowl (carrots and onions with ranch dressing) and a long wait after the order had been taken until the serving of bread loaf and again a long wait until the serving of our order. We had the prime rib and it came moderately warm but my wife did send her portion back for more heat. The cheddar potatoes were a 'hit' at our table as were the steamed veggies. No offer of a desert item was made. Had to ask for a coffee. I am not one to look a gift horse in the mouth - but I will say - "I miss Fedora's on the Plaza.""

"Very disappointed, won't be returning. Meat was way to chewy for the type of place this is/was. Service was very slow, waiter was nice but seemed like he had to many tables. I got KC Strip Au Poivre and couldn't believe the sauce was served seperatly in a ramakin! If I would have wanted it without the sauce they had a strip steak I could have ordered, so serving it that way was horrible!"

"We ordered the scallops and shrimp, beef tenderloin and shrimp, Large Filet Mignom and the 'notable and kc best prime rib'. With sides of grilled Asparagus and Lionese Potatoes. Everything was great but would not recommemd the prime rib. It was flavorless and alot of fat was on this cut of meat. If your wanting prime rib, go to Capitol Grille. Everything else was flavor full and our server, Angus was great."

"We made reservations for 8:30 and were seated at 8:50. They served me 2 plates of tepid prime rib and a final hot plate with warm prime rib. It took a long tind for the entrees to arrive. We got to see lots of wait staff whisk past our table as the rush was over and trash cans too. Priceless. Like LongHorn steakhouse on a bad day, wait, make that Steak n Shake. Waitress hopes our miserable experience wont affect our decision to come again. Prime was comped...big deal. Guess how fast we will cone back? Umm...that's right. Never."

"We have visited your restaurant on other special occasions, but this time we had the added joy of children. That can sometimes be a challenge for the servers, and us, but everything went very smoothly and I would like to offer my thanks to a wonderful server who knew just what was needed and was there to provide. "While the steak was cooked well, everything else was covered in butter. Our steak tartare appetizer turned out to be covered with mayonnaise and relish, served with cold and tough pieces of toast. The strangest part about the meal was the pushcart that the servers push around to display the choices of raw cuts of beef (and fish) that were on the menu. Very disappointing for a steakhouse on the plaza."

"Plaza III is my favorite steak house in Kansas City. I've been there several times prior to my most recent visit, and was always seated in the main dining area where I loved the ambiance. However, this time my guest and I were seated in a smaller room. The room seemed crowded, and it lacked the atmosphere of the main dining area. This detracted from the overall experience. My steak was cooked to perfection, and the accompanying Sauce Bearnaise was excellent. My guest enjoyed the shrimp and scallops. The service was outstanding."

"I love Plaza III. I go for their steaks and the ambiance. Some nights it is very quiet, and I worry they will go out of business. Other nights, like the night this review is for, it was very busy. So busy, in fact, my reservation was for 7:30, and I didn't get seated until 8. Then the waitress informed me I was lucky that a 12-top reservation had just cancelled so I was able to be seated quickly. I was annoyed, but I was also glad to see the restaurant had patrons, because the steaks cannot be beat. My steak was prepared exactly the way I like it, and the chocolate souffle I had for dessert was the best I've ever tasted. I will definitely return for another special occasion, but I hope next time it won't be so busy."
