Devereaux's
Devereaux's is fast becoming recognized as a culinary destination in downtown Greenville. The restaurant is located in a century-old cigar factory that has been transformed to provide a warm, relaxed atmosphere with outside patio seating and private dining in the Vintage Room. The friendly, highly-trained staff will serve you from Chef Spencer Thomson’s contemporary American menu, which features French, Asian and Southern-influence dishes. Prepared in the open-air kitchen, each creative and inventive dish combines unexpected and delightful flavors into a true masterpiece. Guests may choose from Devereaux's A la Carte menu or two Tasting Menu options including a 10 course "Ultimate Menu". The ambiance is elegant and yet relaxed. Devereaux's offers private dining in the wine cellar for up to 28 guests , outside patio seating and complimentary valet parking.

"Although the restaurant was full it didn't feel overcrowded and noise level allowed quiet conversation. The food was outstanding (we had the 5 course sampler) but we felt rushed with a couple of the courses. The service was almost too good. My companion found she had to leave a bit of food on her plate to keep the waiter from rushing to take the plate away to serve the next one. The wait staff was very polite but maybe over-efficient. Overall the experience was top notch and we will return and would without reservation recommend the restaurant."

Staff was highly attentive, friendly not stuffy, and intimate with the food and wine offerings. We have enjoyed star restaurants around the world, and Devereaux's ranks among the best. No kidding."

"When someone asks, I have no problem stating what restaurant is best in Greenville - Deveraeux's. The chef's selection dinners are excellent. The best part is it has a variety - it's not a steak place that has other things like a lot of the fine dining restaurants do in Greenville. It has an extensive wine list, which is a must. I eliminate most places in Greenville on their wine list alone. Devereaux's has one Achilles Heel and that's the bar. It has the basics, but it very lacking in top end liquors, particularly scotches. A great dinner without a good scotch is like seven days of rain. The bar is the only reason I do not give the restaurant five stars."

"When we went to Devereaux's for the first time about 7 years ago, it was a true dining experience. We could not say enough good things about it. We have been there six or seven times since, and don't think we wil be back. The service and ambience has not changed. Still great. What has changed is the food. At this price point it should be a gourmet experience. It used to be you looked at the menu, ordered something, didn't mattter what, the creative presentation and flavors were phenomenal. For lack of a better way to put it, now it is just good food. But there are numerous places in the area, easier on the cost, that have good food. Would only recommend it for a special occasion because of the great service and ambience."

"Definitely one of the top three restaurants in Greenville. I had the asparagus/arugula/poached duck egg starter which was creative and excellent. The grouper was surprising in its quantity, thankfully not overcooked, overall very nice but I didn't care too much for the accompanying pickled garlic and veggies. I split the Irish Coffee Creme Brulee with my wife and we both found it excellent. The wait staff was very professional, no complaints at all, but he host was aloof, didn't seem to care that we were there, though we were seated promptly. I've had nothing but good experiences here over the years, this one marred only slightly by the host."

"I would actually give 3 1/2 stars. We had a bad start there from which there was just no possible complete recovery. We called in to say that we would be late for our reservation but were told no problem. Upon arrival, no hostess for about 10 min. When she showed, she said we would be seated in 5 min. Spent 35 min at the bar. After being seated, sat at table for 15 min before a waiter came - I actually got up and went to find a waiter who then had our waiter stop by. He seemed offended. Explained that he was doing a "wine presentation" (yikes - give me a break!). Food was good, but rather average to above average for a foodie haunt. Nothing amazing. The chef was considerate. Evening ended with major red wine spill. Left red and soaked."

"My wife and I are foodies and had dinner for the first time at Deveraux's. This was without a doubt the best restaurant experience we've had in the upstate. We had the 10-course tasting menu and every course was creative with great flavor combinations. "Inventive food, phenomenally prepared and served with outstanding personal attention. My wife has severe dietary restrictions, but the chef came to our table and custom-designed a meal for her that was one of her most memorable culinary experiences.
We ate off the a la carte menu -- snapper for me, scallops for her -- but next time I'm tempted to try one of their tastings, where the kitchen staff really gets to show their stuff. Pricey but worth it for a special occasion. One observation: we went on a Sunday night and virtually had the restaurant to ourselves, so if you're looking for a little more energy you may want to pick another night."

"This is the second time my wife and I have been to Devereaux's. This is by far my favorite restaurant I have ever been to. It is definitely not cheap but in my opinion well worth the money. My wife and I visited about a year ago. Somehow one of the servers remembered us and told us good to see us in the restaurant again. Fantastic restaurant. Do yourself a favor and treat you and a special someone to this place!"

"By far the enthusiasm for customer service from the entire staff was the most important part of our dining experience on our wedding anniversary. Our waiter was informed through the online reservation service of our anniversary, and he seemed genuinely interested about anything we wanted to tell him about our life together. Without being intrusive at all, he actively asked questions to show his interest in helping us celebrate. The food was hot, fresh, tasty and served with passionate introduction. New and interesting flavors were found in each dish. The chef was creative, and the food was almost too pretty to eat! I have never paid so much for a meal,but the most important thing to ask about cost is, "Was it worth it?" YES!"

"NOT impressed with restaurant. It was our first time there and I reserved a table earlier in the week for a nice quiet table away from noise, kitchen and sorts. When we arrived the restaurant was pretty empty and they seated us in a area that I wasn't too impressed by, then 10 minutes later I realize the server station is right behind me. My husband's entree was pure salt (steak). We had to send it back because there was no way he was going to be able to eat it. I sat there with my meal in front of me, with my husband just sitting there. I wasn't overly impressed by the meal. They server never once asked to keep my meal warm until his was prepared. She told him to eat around it We came to the restaurant to eat a meal together!!!"

"We've never had anything other than a good meal at Devereaux's but the most recent was excellent, though I think the quality of the appetizers (and how imaginative they were) seems higher than that of the entrees.
