"Good place to go if you want to talk. Pretty setting . Food was good nothing very special. Fair prices. Service was good. They have a good deal for Sunday night supper where you get the salad and dessert bar with a selection of meals."

"The food was an ordinary buffet, but with some cold shrimp and oysters on the half shell that were very good. All the other items were your normal buffet type hot dishes and salads There was quite a large selection though, so most people could find something they could eat."

"Wonderful selection of seafood at the brunch. Lots of seafood salads. Cold shrimp and good oysters on the half shell. A little pricey, but the champagne is unlimited. Excellent service and glasses are refilled as desired. No meat carving or omlet stations. Breakfast and lunch hot dish selections, but not a large variety."

"Not the greatest experience this time.
We asked for a water refill 3 times.We were about to get our own when we finally got a refil l( ordered drinks also).
We had a coupon for buy an entree, get one free. our server added his own tip onto our bill, despite the coupon read nothing about a tip being added.

"I have heard nothing but how wonderful and upscale this place is since I moved here 6 years ago. We finally went for a friend's birthday, to make it special, and what a miserable thing it was. The only thing good were the twice baked potatoes, the steak was done right and the server was ok. The price was too high, the rolls were stale and not even made on site like one would expect for the reputation this place hypes for itself. The desert bar (yes, it is so classy they have a desert bar, serve yourself, why did we tip 19%? because they added it on automatically) was full of old, stale horrible tasting things I could barely identify. I will never return nor will I ever recommend it to anyone, not even an enemy."

"It had been a long time since we were last at Allgauer's. We went on a Sunday evening following a reception held by the Northbrook Symphony after its April 7th concert. On this particular occasion the fact that many of the diners had just come from the reception contributed to a temporary overload in the dining room that made service slow. To his credit, our waiter acknowledged the problem and did things to try to make up for the long wait. Once served, the food was worth the wait. This one less-than-expected quality of service will not keep us from going there again."

"Recently moved to the area from downtown and wanted to try the local restaurants. Cannot recommend Allgauer's. Went on a Saturday and restaurant was not crowded. Seated promptly, but waited for over an hour for food to arrive at the table: 7:30PM reservation and 8:35PM appetizers arrived. Waitress brought wrong bottle of wine and took 20 minutes to return with the correct one. Calamari was expensive and unremarkable. Salads were good as was the steak. Several at our table ordered soup which never arrived. Restaurant did not seem understaffed, but no one seemed to be in charge. Waitress was apologetic, but we observed apologies being made to other tables for similar reasons. Perhaps it was an off night, but I won't be back."

"Pretty depressing. Never got busy on a Saturday night, and I can see why. The food, while very reasonably priced, was ordinary at best. The appearance of the dining room seemed worn down. Nobody eating there was under the age of 70. Nothing interesting on the menu. I would add that our waiter was responsive."
