"As a 40 year local resident I can say that in my opinion Las Canarias is one of only two truly outstanding restaurants on the Riverwalk (Biga on the Banks is the other). As usual our meals were prepared to perfection. The beef tenderloin was cooked exactly as requested and vegetable substitutions were accommodated with delight. The braised beef short ribs were superb and so tender that a knife was hardly needed. Excellent wine list and deserts. Weather permitting try dining on the outdoor patio. On a nice day it can't be beat!"

"Out of state friend was staying at the hotel so we decided to try the restaurant. This had to be one of the most romantic spots I've ever been in! We had a corner table with a window that overlooked the river. The restaurant was quiet though there were a few other tables seated and it felt like the waiters were only there for us. Loved the hummus cheese spread for the bread and I don't even like hummus!! Delicious meal and exceptional time. I wish the table hadn't been so small. I do understand the closeness factor. It was so romantic and dimly lit. Between the hustle and bustle of the tourists on the Riverwalk and the quiet charm inside Las Canarias, I was surprised at how lost I could get in their food! 4.5 for ambience & overall, not 4!"

"Nice place, but for the prices, everything should be superb! The cheese board had no grapes and only 2 small slices of cheese. They could have left off the mini 3 jars of spreads. Bread offers are very nice....presented on array to each diner for a choice. Service very good. Wines by the glass limited and pricey, but nice offers of about 9 each for red and white. Good wine list. No sides come with the entrees, must order in addition. There were four of us, and two of the fish dishes were a bit over cooked. Duck dish was superb. Nice guitarist playing. 4 glasses of wine, 4 entrees, 2 salads equaled a $250 tab. For that price, things were nice but not over the top."

"My uncle has to have brunch here every Sunday after church, and now I know why. Brunch is delicious here! Omelet bar, fresh fruit, seafood, salads galore. Did I mention bottomless Mimosas? I enjoyed myself! The service was outstanding, as if they treat you like royalty. In my opinion, brunch is your best option for dining. I really didn't care for the dinner menu during the Fiesta River Parade. This place is casual, wear your khaki shorts & sandals, you'll fit right in. I have never had better service in San Antonio, than on the Property at La Mansion."

"We had a 6:00 reservation and even after we told the waiter that we needed to be out for an 8:00 show, we almost missed the start. We had to ask for the check and cancel dessert. That doesn't take away from the great food and the otherwise attentive service though. We really enjoy this restaurant. "Las Canarias is hard to explain to someone who's never been to San Antonio's Riverwalk. It's a rare find--a hotel restaurant that's truly a special place to dine in a five-star hotel that appears to be straight from San Antonio's origins as a Spanish mission. Inside is fairly intimate--outside you enjoy the wonderful ambiance of the Riverwalk as you dine on one of the multiple terrace layers just outside the restaurant. We first dined at Las Canarias about 30 years ago and the food is still as exquisite as it was then. The portions are right-sized, the menu has an interesting variety of tastes and the presentation and attention of the wait-staff is just right. Enjoy!"

"The food was incredible. My husband had the roast chicken. He said it was equivalent or better to the chicken he had at Emeril's. I had the veal, something I typically do not eat due to personal opinion about how they are raised, but it was excellent. We sat outside, which was fun. Watching everyone walk by was entertaining. It is quiet inside but very chilly. When we go downtown we typically eat at Bohannon's. This place was wonderful , not as loud Bohannon's . The deserts were good but they need some chocolate choices."

"I was there for dinner with a group of 9. The food was excellent, but the service was not great. We had to ask to get our water glasses filled, and they did not come back with additional bread. The wait was long between courses. The entire evening took way too long!"

"Poor from start to finish. It took 5 minutes to be greeted and when I was greeted it was by a server that was too young to serve alcohol so she had to relay the message. I ordered a cheese plate and the NY Strip. The server could not tell me what cheeses would be on the plate only that they would be good. After 19 minutes my cheese plate arrived as a drop and dash, zero explanation as to what the cheeses were. I waited another 11 minutes for my server to check in to which I asked did you find out what the cheeses were. He still did not know.The cheeses were a cheap Brie and some cheddar a that tasted like Craft. The NY Strip was not prime, $55 too much. Brass tax, too expensive and horrible management."

"This was our fourth time to dine here in the past 10 years, and we will never eat here again.
The experience was like a roller coaster.
The appetizers and salads were excellent.
The entrees were terrible and took an hour to serve.
The beef rib was dry and the filet was over salted to the point that I could feel the salt granules in my teeth.
The dessert was excellent.

"Friendly and very attentive service. Knowledgeable staff. The food was outstanding. And the best of it all, sitting at the San Antonio Riverwalk on a mild spring evening with an excellent bottle of French Chablis, can life be better than that. Also, outstanding desserts."

"We recently were in San Antonio for a convention and decided to have a staff dinner for 12 at Las Canarias. Their venue is not set up to accomodate large groups, and we had been seated for 90 minutes before our main entrees arrived, and when they did, the dinners were quite cold and disappointing. I would not recommend this restaurant if you have a large group."

"Las Carnarias is a lovely restaurant along the Riverwalk. We always try to get there when we are in San Antonio. The ambiance of the restaurant is lovely and the service is always good. We started with cocktails that were excellent. We didn't have salads as we just attended an industry reception which had appetizers. I ordered a fish dish and requested spinach instead of the lima bean vegetable. I also ordered the fish well done. Unfortunately the meal came out with the lima beans and the fish wasn't cooked through. Once they realized the vegetable issue they took care of it. My husband had a wonderful chicken dish that he really enjoyed. Even with the mix-up, we enjoyed our dinner and the lovely restaurant."

"I adore the Sunday brunch experience here. There really is nothing else like it on the Riverwalk and is always a "must" when visiting San Antonio. My only complaints this time is that there was no shrimp cocktail. I had always raved about the beautiful shrimp served at this Sunday brunch, and it was absent. The only other thing is that the quiches, although pretty, were very overdone and, thus very dry. The crust was also not crisp and flaky like it usually is.
Service, as always, was spectacular. Danel did a wonderful job, was spot on with his service and was charming to boot."

"The maitre'd is warm and inviting. He starts your experience out in a lovely fashion. You are eating in an old mission. The floors are terra cotta in the main thorough fares. There are fresh roses on each table. The ambiance is superb. There is an assortment of freshly baked breads hand served. I had the salmon. It was moist, pink and flavorful. It was a wonderful experience from entry to exit!"
