"My friend and I enjoyed a healthful, tasty vegetarian supper with a bit of scrumptious deep-fried cod before ambling next door for a 7:30 performance at the Shakespeare Theatre. The service was efficient and unobtrusive. A lovely start to a lovely evening in Washington."

"Special night out with my honey visiting from Seattle ~ we were expecting something a little more formal, and were definately overdressed compared to the rest of the clientele. LIked the IPad wine menu and knowledgeable waiter, we could have spent (and did) hours playing with all of the wine notes and descriptions. The food was outstandingly delicious! Very well priced, fantastic The uni dish was spectacular. Had a wonderful romantic dinner and evening; we will be back."

"Jose Andres is one of the few celebrity chef's that still has a strong hold on the food in his restaurants. Jaleo was excellent. Smooth service and each plate we ordered was presented in a playful way. If you want to try Spanish food and can't make it to Madrid, this is your place."

"I went to Jaleo with a friend for the first time and we had a great experience! The space is beautiful, modern and has a clean feel to it and it matches very well with the concept of the restaurant. The food is classic Spanish tapas with a modern twist. Menu options are incredibly varied and they cater to many palettes. This is a great restaurant to take a diverse crowd to, because there is an option for everyone (from meat lovers to vegetarians).
As a vegetarian, I love going to places where both me and my meat-eater friends can eat and all be satisfied. What I love about all of Jose Andres' restaurants is that they have tasty and satisfying options for vegetarians, and Jaleo is no exception."

"Service was very bad during our visit. The restaurant was not particularly full this past Sunday afternoon and there seemed to be plenty of help but we had to wait twenty minutes after finally telling the maitre d that we wanted our check. Even then, I had to go to the front desk to finally get our check. Food delivery was also very slow. The tapas entries that we had were as outstanding as ever but the service has noticeably gone downhill."

"The worst visit ever . I called in to check of we can come earlier since my son's graduation was done early and they said " c'mon in, we will do our best to accommodate you guys" . My daughter is 8 months pregnant and we wind up waiting for an hour standing by the bar. I went to check once to see how long we have to wait and the guy snapped at me and said' I cannot do anything I can't ask the people eating to hurry up and leave" finally after the long wait they seated us in one of the table games and put my daughter by the end with sharp iron sticks right next to her belly. I mean it was a nightmare. Never again!"

"Although I didn't want to go uber-foodie when I chose this - I was interviewing a candidate to work for me - I did want to have a nice ambiance and a good selection of food. Unfortunately, the seating selection was a bit odd - we sat at a large community table - with my candidate in an uncomfortable-looking 2 seat sofa. As we were a bit more engrossed in our conversation in a more formal way, it didn't lend itself to the tapas sampling that I originally envisioned, so my food choice became limited to a salad, as was my candidates. I was hoping for a little more unique experience which is why I was most disappointed to learn it's part of a chain. Nonetheless, I'll try it again."

"Jaleo was such a pleasant surprise. I mean, not truly a surprise since it already had excellent reviews, but I was impressed! The entire service staff is arguably the best part of this restaurant, from the manager to the hostess. Great people and really made my dining experience remarkable after we mentioned we were there for a special occassion. They gave us a slightly quieter table and a free tapa to celebrate. The cocktails are amazing, highly recommend the rum and coke, sounds simple, but they add a lot of touches. The bacon wrapped dates and selection of cheeses were by far my favorite tapas. I would go again!"

"We got off to a slow start - we had to ask for a drink menu (and were given one which we had to share), and then we waited a little too long for our waiter to come by to take our drink orders. But after we finally got his attention, our waiter was pleasant and attentive for the remainder of the evening. We had ten dishes, all of which were well-executed if not overly imaginative. The ingredients seemed fresh and the presentation was very good to excellent (love the way they serve the Jose's choice gin and tonic). All in all, Jaleo can be counted on to deliver a solid if not sublime dining experience."

"A trip to DC would not be complete for us without dining at Jaleo - our favorite tapas place outside Spain! Creamy croquettes, excellent Iberian ham, nice selection of cheeses, spicy shrimp, cod fish, olives, etc. All our favorite foods in small portions so we can enjoy many! It has a large selection of tapas - many restaurants say they have tapas, but only 10 -12 selections. Jaleo has a wide selection so you can enjoy old favorites and try some new ones."

"Really enjoyed the tapas, the sauces and the sangria. Having lived in the Canary Islands, I can tell you from experience their Canary-style mojos are authentic and delicious.
Also, the cocktails looked great. Our waiter gave us great advice on what to order, although with a little more research learned he fibbed us a little on the origins of the gastronomic, Ferran Adriá "Liquid Olives" on the menu.
All and all, a really wonderful night and dining experience."

"Interesting concept not for all. Server had haughty attitude. We had older folks in crowd with lots of questions as they did not understand tapas and concept but excited to try it. Server just made them feel ignorant and was not patient. We came in AFTER lunch hour around 2pm but there is not excuse. The food was good, not exceptional and overall for price and quality would not go back especially with all the other options near by."

"I hadn't been to Jaleo in years, and thought I'd give it a try with a group of three other friends. Sadly, the food was sub-par and dull; the menu was overloaded. Despite making a reservation over a month ago, we were seated in the front area, where the chairs had backs that stopped just below our mid-backs and were totally uncomfortable. The four of us were jammed at a tiny table with two of us seated on corners of the table, and our tapas plates were just as crowded on the table as we were sitting there. The service was adequate, but nothing to write home about. I won't be returning anytime soon."

"My friend and I each had the $30 Fixed Price fare and it was terrific as each of us selected --and then shared --4 different tapas plates PLUS a great dessert each. Notably, the fixed price selections did include almost all of the special dishes listed in the Washingtonian's Top 100 Restaurants list and profiles--except for the amazing acrylic shoe of creamy croquettes --so we ordered that as well. Delicious tastings, interestingly presented, and great fun to boot (or to shoe!). Our waiter who was pleasant but not very present when we needed him; noise level at the front of the restaurant was indeed energetic, but remedied by asking for a table at the back. All in all, a delicious experience--would certainly recommend to others."

"I've heard great things about Jaleo and so we brought my husband's parents here for a nice dinner out. We all enjoyed the tapas that we shared, but were not super impressed at the presentation, the taste, or the quantity of food for the price. The staff was nice, but our waiter was not super attentive - our drinks were emptied about 3/4 through the meal and we weren't asked about refills. The timing of the plates was a bit odd too - the 4 of us went through about 12 plates, ate everything and then waited 10 minutes for one of the first things we had ordered. We left content, but not sure that we'll return. We'll probably stick to Bouqueria and Zaytinya for fancy small plates/tapas/mezze."

"I was disappointed in the food. Clearly, Jose Andres is no longer in the kitchen and the cooks are just preparing from autopilot. Some items were good but many were greasy and poorly cooked. The paella was the worse thing that I had that evening."

"The food was AMAZING. I was part of a party of 2, and our seating was a little odd. They really are trying to maximize our seating, and the servers had to do a little dance to get past each other right where my seat was located. They navigated it well, but it was a little distracting from time to time. The server was very busy, but was knowlegable. He gave good guidance, and despite how busy he and the restaurant were, the orders were correct (and delicious)."

"I can't say enough things about Jaleo. The service was beyond expectations and in the words of my husband the whole experience was a "celebration of food". Every item we ordered was interesting and delicious in it's own way. We did not feel rushed at all in ordering and although the seating was packed in, it still felt very intimate. I can't wait to visit DC again and dine at Jaleo!
You MUST try the Aceitunas Ferrán Adrià (liquid olives) and Pimientos Del Piquillo Don Julian De Tolosa Con Grasa De Jamón Ibérico (sweet red pepper confit with ibérico ham fat). Life changing!"
