Perilla is a critically acclaimed neighborhood restaurant opened by Chef Harold Dieterle and Alicia Nosenzo. Located on Jones Street, a quiet block off of West 4th in Greenwich Village, it features a welcoming atmosphere and exceptional food. The menu is seasonal and changes regularly, but a number of customer favorites remain year-round. Complementing the food is an eclectic mix of wines and spirits, focusing on many smaller producers from the U.S. and around the world, meant to be approachable for all palates and price points. Open for dinner seven days a week and brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. The current menu can be found at www.perillanyc.com.
"this restaurant has an incredible menu with delicious options in the appetizers, main course and desserts. I highly recommend the calamari salad and the cauliflower apps as well as the donuts for dessert. Enjoy!"

"Perilla never disappoints. Our server was so lovely--really, that makes such a difference. I've never had a bad meal at Perilla--in a group of four, no one was anything less than pleased, and our selections varied widely. Love those semi-booth tables. Looking forward to returning."

"Second time round. Food was excellent and no complaints. Balance in flavours/textures were fantastic and portions were perfect. We were late for our reso - about 25-30mins to be exact - but even with the restuarant half empty at 7pm, apparently they had to give our original table away and had to be re-seated. Curious. Nevertheless, the food and table service are the highlights."

"We just finished a 3 week culinary extravaganza in New York which included 5 of the 10 top Zagat-rated restaurants (Per Se, Blue Hill, Modern, Gramacy etc.) and our best meal, without a doubt, was at Perilla. This village gem is outstanding. It isn't as formal or complex as the others but the food is inventive, perfectly prepared and sparkles with freshness. Highly recommended!"

"Friendly, and welcoming which was a wonderful surprise after they required a credit card with reservation. Some of the food was superb and other dishes were good, somewhat salty. Best were the pasta appetizer, the artichoke and the duck meatballs. Also, the asparagus entree was quite delicious. The fish dishes were well-cooked but nothing special. Chocolate souffle was incredibly good - wish it had been larger. All and all, a very enjoyable experience."

"Last two times at Perilla have been a disappointment compared to the first few years they were open. Food was overly greasy - we had to use a fork & knife to separate the overly fried plate of salad which was just one giant lump of indistinguishable grease with four small pieces of calamari. Pork belly was one overcooked massive lump and not crispy and the rest of the dish had no real taste or flavor. Our other entree and appetizer were faintly reminiscent of how good Perilla used to be. We sorely miss the old Perilla."

"Fine appetizers such as the spicy duck meatballs (wow!) and the feather-light calamari crispy, wonderful vegetarian entree (asparagus, morels, etc), and a tender chicken in a delightfully complex plating, with great desserts to finish (loved the chocolate soufflé with coffee creme anglaise)."

"The food was good, and innovative. I would have rated my experience higher had the service been better. We arrived around 6 for a 6:15 reservation on a week night, and were lead through a nearly empty restaurant to a table in the far back, right outside the kitchen and a bus station. After we started to sit down I asked if it was possible to be moved away from the kitchen (which was noisy and visible) we were accommodated, but only after the hostess made a point of straightening up the table before we left (moving napkins was all that had happened). We were seated nearer the front, which was fine. We when left at 8 there were still plenty of empty tables around us."

"Best apps...calamari lightly fried with watercress...best ever! Cauliflower Agnolotti brilliant. Lovely ambiance. Great service. Very interesting delicious food. The spicy margarita was so hot we tried to drink...server noticed our slow moving drinks...offered to replace for another cocktail. We did. Just well cared for. Definitely will go back. Nice bar too."

"This restaurant is fabulous! The food was great, the service was outstanding, and the atmosphere was both intimate and vibrant. There were just two of us for dinner but we noticed several large, comfortable booths along the wall that would be nice for larger groups of 4 or 5 people. I loved everything about this restaurant!"

"Great little restaurant in the west village. Upscale but not old and outdated. Great to take people you want to impress or those who have been to a lot of NYC Spots. Great for a date!
The food was a bit overpriced in my opinion but it was delicious none the less. Save room for dessert!"

"The food and service were impeccable. With the three meals including appetizers and desserts, there was not a miss. Our waitress was attentive without interrupting. The decor is understated but elegant. Of note however, the noise level was quiet to moderate when we arrived for our 7PM reservation. By the time we left at 9:30PM it was deafening. We were seated in the bar area however, the back area might be better for a intimate dinner."

"We were in town for a quick getaway, and this was a great spot for a very good dinner. The choice of entrees and appetizers was diverse and imaginative. Each item my wife and I ordered (catfish, bronzini) were perfectly prepared. The housemade ice creams are amazingly fresh and good as was the lemon meringue tart. We would definitely return. One minor note: Our particular waiter seemed to be having an off-night, but that did not take away from the food or overall experience."

"Not bad, but not quite my cup of tea either. Brunch here is a busy and crowded affair, with decent food that hedges more "Br"eakfast than l"unch". Perilla appears enormously popular, and if I was 25 again & looking for breakfast with a group of friends in the Village, I think this place would be perfect. Larger groups (I dined alone) received noticeably superior service until I asserted myself; a BIG peeve of mine as a solo diner."

"Nice atmosphere in a great location. We went on a Sunday and it was rather quiet. Started with the duck meatballs that were delicious. My husband had the steak and I had the fish special, both of which were done very well. I am not sure that we will return (as there are so many other great places to try in the city) but would definitely recommend."

"I love Perilla. Always have for years. It's always amazing. Service, Food, Drinks, Decor - perfection. Our server let us linger a little longer over brunch. (haven't seen my friend in a year!) But we ordered more drinks, so that we didn't wear out our welcome. One couple actually left though because of the 2 screaming children next to their table. We heard them too, but just drowned out the sound with more cava. Chef Howard has a perfect place and it always just gets better each time I dine there."

"This our sixth visit to Perilla, truly one of our favorite restaurants. Although we had to wait 15 minutes for our reservation, the food was again terrific. The himachi and braised artichoke appetizer were extraordinary, as was the pork belly and chicken entre's. Service was impecable, and the ambiance very relaxed and West Village like."

"The food was delicious when it arrived...however it took 45 minutes. The hanger steak was ordered medium and came back very rare. It had to be sent back, and we waited another 8ish minutes.
If the food came more promptly and we didn't have to wait so long, would have definitely given the restaurant all 5 stars."

"On vacation in NYC my wife and I were eager to try Harold Dieterle's Perilla. We had our 6 year old son with us and we all had a great time. I should note that our son does not usually eat off of a kid's menu. He had the roasted chicken, which was excellent and would satisfy both foodies and picky eaters alike. My wife had the duck and loved it and I had the special, which was a pork chop recommended by the waiter. If that is an option then I would strongly recommend it, probably the best pork chop I've ever had."

"Dropped in for brunch. Shared the calamari and watercress salad, so fresh and light. The spicy duck burger was amazing. My husband's grilled mortadella and fontina sandwich was delicious perfection. Our server was attentive and helpful in an unobtrUsive way, exactly how service should be. I regret not trying Perilla sooner. I find myself reviewing the menu online dreaming of my next meal herer."

"We celebrated a significant birthday at the birthday girl's restaurant choice, and we were all very pleased with our first-time dinner experience at Perilla. We shared each others' selections at each course, and with one exception, liked them all. The duck meatballs stand out, and the pork belly and Arctic char were great. Desserts were terrific. One drawback: the scallops ceviche, served in a very tiny portion, could have been more flavorful, and the texture was off. This understated and neighborhood-friendly restaurant is all about the food, and the fine service is also respectful of the meal. All in all, well worth experiencing."

"Great restaurant. Great food. Really solid service. We loved the duck breast, duck meatballs, calamari was ok (tasted too much like Chinese good takeout), the chicken, the risotto ... very, very flavorful. Staff could not have been more accommodating. If I lived in the neighborhood, I'd eat at the bar at least twice a week. Go."

"Had such a wonderful time celebrated my friends 70 birthday, I booked from reviews on line. I own a catering company so it was very important to me to have a perfect evening and we did. Peter was one of our waiters, would love to know his last name so we can follow his career. So him on a soap opera. He was wonderful as was the rest of the staff. The food incredible, what a wonderful experience.Cathy Norfolk, Virginia"
