"After an uphill climb and walk around Russian Hiil, we were ready for dinner. Frascati was just right in so may ways- food, wine, warmth, and friendliness. It was obvious there are many regular patrons who were greeted by name. Would definitely return."

"My fiancee and I enjoyed this quiet & quaint little mediterranean restaurant in San Francisco. It was in a nice neighborhood setting on Nob Hill with lots of trees surrounding it. The view was pleasant. Service was great; my swordfish was fantastic! After telling the waitres that she liked her fish flaky, my fiancee's halibut was a little undercooked in one area but otherwise tasty."

"My wife and I visited this place and were very pleased. It's nestled in a quiet area of Russian Hill. The staff is very friendly and the wait staff was very helpful. It's really a very pleasant and relaxing place to have a nice dinner. We had the cheese plate to start, which had a brie, goat's milk cheese, a blue cheese, and something else. It was what I expected and was very well presented. The potato gnocchi was also tasty. We had a pasta dish for dinner which was above average. All in all, I liked the place and would recommend it, especially for a romantic dinner."

"Overall excellent. Food was delicious. The sardine appetizer was very tasty and not at all too salty. The duck and spinach salad was excellent--not overdressed and had a good amount of duck. And the halibut was perfectly prepared. With the exception of our server, who was on the edge of unfriendly, service, in general, was very good. We'll be back!"

"To be honest I'm not sure why it was so difficult to get seating here. The risotto my friend has was good and so was the swordfish, but the steak, duck, tagliatelle, and pork chop were bad. The pasta was too dry along with the beef, the duck was overcooked, and the pork chop was not flavored enough and also dry. The Riesling was amazing though. I hope I am able to find this particular bottle."

"Six of us went there after seeing Jersey Boys downtown. Considered taking the cable car to and from but will do that another time. Our reservation was at 6-we got there at 5:20 and found parking out front! Staff welcomed us tho they don't really open till 5:30. Sat upstairs and some of us were able to look down into the energetic amazing ktichen and sou chefs-wow. Food was fantastic, Italian and California organic with lovely options for foodies, vegans, meat lovers. Wonderful wait staff and fun atmosphere. This was my second time there and it continues to delight!

"This is one of our favorite restaurants in SF. Worth trying if one appreciates San Francisco dining where the restaurant has a cozy but vibrant (neighborhood) feel.
Great decor: high ceiling, cross beams, second level and copper everywhere are nice touches. The attentive and energetic wait staff is excellent.
Sitting in Frascati on Russian Hill, watching the trolley cars roll by on Hyde while eating Mediterranean/Californian-style food makes for a memorable evening."

"From the moment we walked in the door we were greeted with smiling faces and escorted to, what I consider, the best table in the restaurant. We were upstairs in the back loft at the corner table that overlooked a beautifully done window overlooking the street.
We sat down and were once again greeted by a super friendly waitress who was very accommodating. The atmosphere inside was relaxing and romantic. We ordered the octopus salad and gnocchi to start which were exceptional, every bite was mouth watering.
Just when we thought it couldn't get any better, we ordered the chicken and monk fish.. Both, incredible from the first bite to the last. Our waitress was timely and friendly the entire time and I really can't think of one negativ"

We chose the gnocchi and duck salad for appetizers - both were nicely portioned and hugely flavoursome, and really created anticipation for what was to come.
For entree, the monk fish was perfectly cooked, with a delicious citrus sauce that balanced the creamy potatoe/fennel puree. The steak was tender, cooked exactly to medium rare and really complimented by the tasty jus.
We could only manage a shared pannacotta, which was silky smooth in texture, made more interesting with a crumb and some fruit.
Service was friendly and attentive, and they didn't clear away my husband's plate until I had finished eating which, to me, is the right way to go. No pressure on the slow eater!"

"Recently visited Frascati and had a nice evening. We had a late-ish siting at 9pm. The staff were polite and cordial but obviously very busy. The food was very good, though the 'energetic' atmosphere made hearing your dinner guests challenging at times. That being said, if you don't mind a bit of noise then it does make for a good positive noise vibe (though maybe not the place for a quiet romantic evening whispering sweet nothings.....!). All in all, would visit again."

"I had the filet mignon, which was excellent. I have steak practically every time I eat out, and this steak had a unique flavor that's hard for me to describe beyond saying that it was fantastic. My wife had the roasted chicken which also had a rich, unique quality that was very good. We didn't have any dessert because there wasn't anything chocolate except for bread pudding--which I hate.
The service was also good. The waitress was warm and friendly without pretending we were long lost friends.
My only complaint was that there were no free refills on soda--maybe it's a San Francisco thing. If I'm dropping a $100 for dinner I'd like a free soda."

"We had a lovely dining experience at Frascati on a Saturday night. We were seated upstairs where the atmosphere is warm and cozy. The mushroom bruschetta, filet mignon, and monk fish were absolutely delicious. Service was very good, too. I had to drive around the neighborhood for 30 minutes before finally finding parking on Chestnut Street. Turns out I was so glad to have parked there, because the view at sunset and after dark is fabulous (esp. from the top of Lombard St)! If you're not interested in the walking hills or taking in the view, then be sure to take a taxi or cable car - there's really no parking in that neighborhood."

"This was our first time at Frascati. Very quaint restaurant on Hyde Street with the cable car running right by. We sat near the kitchen which was exciting and vibrant, but may not be for everyone. There is additional seating on two other levels not so close to the hustle and bustle of the kitchen for patrons who might want a quieter dining experience. The food was delicious, well-presented, easy to share and the perfect portion amount. The wine list was extensive and complimented the food nicely. On overall wonderful experience! We are sure to return!"

"this is a fabulous restaurant ! John greeted us warmly and seated us upstairs with a view of the kitchen. Best in the house. (I had requested upstairs seating) Our server, (whose name I didn't get) was wonderful. I can't say enough about her. She knew the menu intimately, made great recommendations and was just plain charming ! She even switched some salad ingredients for us to suit our tastes. Every course was delicious; pear salad, roasted chicken (to die for), filet mignon and chocolate bread pudding !
Sometimes restaurants as good as this can have an attitude !, but Frascati does not. I highly recommend it!"

"I found this place on trip advisor and made a reservation after reading some the reviews. I was quite surprised that most of the reviews are quite accurate. Small but very homelike atmosphere. The food was very good as well as the service and I had a great view of the chiefs working. Fantastic. A must in SF"

"Found Frascati first time stumbeling around SF. Wow! Everything is delicious. We took our parents here and everyone kept raving about the food and the wine. We had a california Chardonay that was buttery as we like it. We started with the suculent octopus salad and the to die for stake tartar. We then had some phenomenal entres.

"Great food and fantastic service. These folks really know how to treat their customers! We had a GF diner and he ordered something and later realized it had gluten (he didn't tell the waiter beforehand). Even though it was his fault, the waiter promptly had another plate made to his restrictions and gave him a complementary soup in the meantime so he would not be left without a meal while the rest of us were dining. Great folks!"

"The restaurant was charming and inviting and the staff was warm and attentive. The food didn't come close to my expectations. I ordered a pork chop that was not flavorful at all, yet I could taste the excessive pepper on it. My salad was so full of "stuff" that it detracted from the salad. In fact the apples in my salad were browning, and there was way too much of it. None of us were happy with the salad, which should be the easiest dish to make taste terrific."

"I was really impressed by Frascati and highly recommend it to anyone who wants a great meal in a classic San Francisco neighborhood.
We had a 5:30 reservation but came about 15 minutes early. No problem, they seated us at the bar and we had a glass of wine first.
The food was amazing! We had appetizer of gnocchi and the seasonal side of brussel sprouts, then for mains the filet mignon with polenta cake and duck with spatzel and huckleberry. Both entrees were cooked perfectly. I wasn't a huge fan of the sweetness from the huckleberry but otherwise loved my duck. To finish, we had expressos (done very well!) and the famous chocolate bread pudding with ice cream - to die for!
Service was attentive and friendly, but never over-bearing"

"The desserts were to die for. Best apple crumble a la mode I've ever had. Served very warm, not too sweet, and the crumble was partially carmelized. The apples were just ripe and stewed perfectly. The chocolate bread pudding a la mode was divine, and the panna cotta served with carmelized banana was exquisite. We also ordered coconut ice cream ladened with blueberries on a mound of carmelized crackling almonds. SUPERB.
We were disappointed by our starter salad - very uninspired, and the pork chop. Last time we ate here in 2010, the pork chop was superb - juicy, tasty, zesty and very tender. The one we had recently was like out of Safeway. It was cooked and seasoned well, but the quality of the meat was mediocre. Very disappointing."

"Save room for the Chocolate Bread Pudding!! The flavors are well blended, not too strong not too weak. Their menu changes enough that I can come here and be surprised. Sometimes my favorite falls of the list (they often will make something if they took it off the list). However, I recommend trying the different items as they are almost all very good to excellent. The locals keep this in business and I am glad. I have been and will be back often"

"We think Frascati is one of the best restaurants in San Francisco. It was our old neighborhood gem, and we recently returned for a special night out. It was just as good as we remembered, and we were so happy to make it back and sit at our favorite seats at the bar! The food is always consistent and delicious - tasty and perfectly cooked meats with delicious glazes, vegetables, etc. We never have room for dessert because between our mains and our wine - we leave superbly sated and jolly."

"After dining at Frascati for these past nine years, it seems impossible that it can continue to deliver four and five star dining experiences but it does indeed.
A recent evening with friends saw us order both the fish entrees, the duck breast and the pear and octopus salads; all of which were excellent. The restaurant does exceptionally well with its fish entrees although most of the other dishes are well deserving of attention. Desserts are divine and large enough in size for 2+ people to comfortably share.
The wine menu is eclectic with a decidely New World focus and carefully chosen. Wait staff is very knowledgeable and well above average in being trusted to make insightful recommendations.
