"Great food, service, and atmosphere. Only negatives were the lighting was so dark at our table that we had an extremely hard time trying to read the menu. Also, we were excited to experiment with the wine carafe program, but they were in the middle of a change and only had one wine available."

"On vacation and heard this was "the place" for lunch. Food was great. I had a beet salad and onion soup and my husband had an open face lamb sandwich that came with with way too many french fries for any one person to eat. We had a small carafe of wine ($45.) The food was very fresh very "California". We had no desert or coffee. The lunch without tip was $145. Way too much for the lunch in my opinion. It was a great lunch, but the price was ridiculous even for California and vacation. The place was packed so the price is not bothering most people. It looked like mostly tourists having lunch - taking lots of photos with digital cameras, etc not a place where there were many locals. It was fun. I will not return."

"This was our first visit to Bouchon. We went there to try it for ourselves since it was a Thomas Keller restaurant and despite some negative reviews. We had a friendly welcome, and were asked if we wanted inside or outdoors since it was sunny. We had escargot, pork belly and steak frites for lunch. The pork belly was amazing with the sauces and it just melted in your mouth. The Zin that the waitress recommended was a great pairing. Service was excellent, never an empty water glass or empty bread plate and our waitress even noticed we were on a schedule because I looked at my watch so she timed the food right and everything was served promptly. Overall, it was a great dining experience and highly recommend it to anyone!"

"We had the opportunity to dine at both French Laundry and Bouchon. There is no comparison, of course, to the FL (totally different dining experience). However, the food at Bouchon was of the highest quality, the service spot on, but it is very noisy and the tables are extremely close together. Not a romantic location. Definitely for foodies! "Server was not helpful at all with the menu which was written in FRENCH, when asked what kind of soups they had, she only mentioned the special: Butter Squash (after being served I saw her served French Onion Soup to another). Not impressed at all with the food: Over kill on the fries, Smoke Sturgeon Salad, what a disappointment, Tuna was very tasteless.

Diabetics~ STAY AWAY.

Received a phone call from the restaurant confirming our reservation not only Tuesday but Wednesday and again on Thursday and TWICE the day of our reservation ANNOYING!!!!!! Should have not shown up just because of the inconvenient of the phone calls."

"Darling, very French! Feels like you are actually in a bistro in Paris. We were there for a late lunch, and I personally did not care for the menu - it was full dinner entrees, and only very limited options for lunch - onion soup, quiche, croque monsieur. Wish there were more salad, sandwich, and some lighter options for lunch. I had quiche florentine and it was delicious, very light and moist and flavorful."

"Beautiful bistro. Lively, fun. Excellent, easy going service. Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs because we kept ordering more and more - the beet salad, the cheese course - both excellent. The sturgeon was delicious, as were the cod and salmon appetizers (the salmon being the most memorable item of the night). The macaroni side was nothing special. Go light on the bread, because more follows!"

"YUM! On our last visit to Yountville/Napa, we made a last minute reservation at Bouchon and were so glad we did. It's difficult to choose a favorite dish from the ones we had. For an appetizer, we shared the salmon rillettes with toasted croutons. If you like salmon, you have to try this. It was SO tasty. Next, I had the trout and my husband had the braised pork belly. The trout was cooked perfectly and the items with it (sunchokes, mushrooms, almonds) complimented it so well. We had pork belly before, but never like this. It just melted in your mouth. It was served with a red wine braised cabbage. Last, we had the meringue dessert (with vanilla & caramel). Heaven!!! We look forward to dining here again."

"Bouchon was a wonderful dining experience.

On arriving the maitre de was very cordigel and give us a wonderful table. Even through we are not regulars we were placed in "siberia". The wait staff was good a little on the
inexperienced side because she had not worked there for a very long time but it did not detract from the overall experience.

It was one of our better dining experiences in the Napa Valley."

"Perhaps my expectations were too high, but the food was merely average. I've had more flavorful food at national chain restaurants. Being from the Midwest, I was also very disappointed in the quality of the beef in my steak frites. Tables were too close together. My party of two was placed along the back wall, between two other twosomes. I had to stand and move our table in order for the people seated on the bench side to get out. Service, however, was impeccable. Much too high a price tag for the food that was served. I wouldn't go back."

"I took my husband here for lunch on his birthday. It was raining and very romantic. We stayed @ Bardessono, right behind the restaurant. My croque madam took my existence to another level. We shared a vibrantly beautiful glass of wine that went perfectly with my sandwich. The experience was sublime and I was caught doing the happy dance and wondering how something could be sooooo good?? I am still wondering..I can't wait to go back. Also the service is professional and attentive. It was worth the $100.00."

"Bouchon is always amazing, the service and ambiance are priceless. Quiche of the day was delicious, but the Bouillabaisse was a bit meager, not hot enough, and overwhelmingly tasting of fennel. Should have gone for my favorite - the Croque Madame (not to be missed!). Still a great spot, but I would recommend ordering one of their other amazing dishes.
Oh, they also have a lemon drop that's to die for."

"A great dining experience. 1st time to this one, several visits to Bouchon LV. I will always dine at these when in the areas.

One down note. Bar experience was really bad. We had 3 different drinks that were all terrible. They tasted like they had a cup of bitters in each. We kept changing because they were so bad. Sazerac, Dark & Stormy, & finally something from the menu, Martinez, I think. Just need to tune it a bit, always need a good barman!"

"Had the oysters, snails, leek something soup, bouillabaisse, chocolate
mousse, Lots of fun. What was more fun was the activity around us. Another local swiss restaurant owner was there making waves to get his dinner comp'd which added to the fun. A couple of winery owners were arguing over their wines. Definitely getting some of the local flavor. It was vibrant in a local way. LOL!"

"Wonderful experience, but... The service was not perfect, a glass of white wine arrived with the cocktail, both for my husband, instead of wine later with first course. My red whine did not come with my pate... Wonderful breads, nice pate, not wine... That was not nice. Maybe too many people to attend for that nice lady? The portions were small."

"Hard to find anything to improve. Austin did a magnificent job serving, the sturgeon was unusual and delicious, the trout so good it didn't even taste like trout and the food combinations unlike anything we've encountered. We'd definitely go again when we return to Napa."

"My wife and I were greeted warmly and seated promptly for a Valentine's Day late lunch at Bouchon. We've dined here a number of times, have always enjoyed it and we weren't disappointed. We always start with the fresh & smoked salmon rillettes, as they are just out of this world good. My wife had the Moules à la Normande (mussels and fries)and they were delectably sweet and tender. I ordered the Bouillabaisse (for the first time) and although each of the ingrediants were individually delicious, the dish did not come together as much as I would have liked or thought. Still very good. Great wine and desert selections (we had the Franz Hills Zin, but didn't have time for dessert unfortunately) Service was exceptional as always."

"We went for lunch and I must say it was a disappointment. The menu didn't have many lunch options. Many of them were heavier dinner type options or if you ordered appetizers, the portions were too small to fill up on. It might be a place that is better suited for dinners. I probably won't go again unless I'm with friends who really want to go to a Keller establishment."

"The entire experience was excellent. I was with a friend in a wheel-scooter and the staff was very helpful in placing us at an accessible table and storing the scooter while we ate.
The food and the wait staff were equally excellent. The last time I was at this restaurant was a family gathering before my wedding a couple of years ago and I am sorry I waited so long to get back to this wonderful spot."

"When we made our dinner reservation, the earliest available time was for 9:30pm. However, we got there at about 8:15pm and there were a number of available tables, so we were able to enjoy an earlier dinner. The food was good and worth trying, but the prices seem rather inflated. The tables are very tightly squeezed together and the noise level is very high. Music is way too loud, making conversations difficult. The menu is also difficult to read."

"Overall we thought the food was ok. The oysters were the best part of our meal. I had the blood sausage and mashed taters (reminded me of simple bangers and mash) and my husband had the steak and fries. His meat was under cooked, we asked for medium well and got medium rare, the fries were cooked prefectly. Wine was good however our service could have been better. Overall it was good but not something we would repeat. Possibly we should have tried the specials?"

"We did an early Valentines lunch at Bouchon and loved it. We had never eaten there and it was well worth the trip from Walnut Creek. Plan ahead to spend a Saturday afternoon walking the town, tasting some wine, and eating at Bouchon. You won't regret it. The wine list fulfilled our every wish, the quiche and scallops were an outstanding prelude to the spectactular seasonal trout we shared as our main course."

"Service like most others wrote before me was only so-so. The place is extremely crowded (they need to pull out the table in order for you to get sit down and push the table back in place so the other person can sit... so it's CROWDED.

I went there for lunch and their French Onion Soup is a must-try. It's not like any other french onion I have ever tried, even those in Paris. It's excellent! Tons of noise during lunch and remember to book ahead of time!"

"As it was our 25th anniversary, we were presented with champagne. We started with a half an order of moules y frites in a saffron sauce. For the main course, I had the roasted chicken and my husband had the pork belly. We shared an order of cauliflower gratin. The food was very tasty and plentiful. For desert, we shared a pot de creme that was infused with coconut and glazed with passionfruit. The whole meal was an excellent experience. We had brought our own bottle of wine but the wine list looked very complete with local wines as well as French. The bill came to less than $100.00, which was also a pleasant surprise. We were expecting to pay much more."

"Mixed. The onion soup superb, the butternut squash soup, very good and the bread also very good. Escargot excellent, as was the pork belly. Chicken with spaetzle, and cauliflower au gratin were awful, both being completely tasteless and bland. "One of a kind with a great menu filled with excellent choices for varied palates. I enjoy the NYC Time Warner cafe but the full-service dining in Napa is the best! The dessert of egg white, creme with Bouchon caramel dessert came with a small sparkler candle helped make our joint birthdays a fun celebration.

"We've been to Bouchon several times before (last time about a year ago) and have always loved it; however, this time, it didn't quite live up to our expectations. The service was a little slow, but we were well cared for in the end. The french onion soup was awesome! But my flank steak was quite tough even though it was cooked appropriately (medium rare). The fresh baked bread was over-baked to way beyond a crunchy crust. My wife's field green salad was pretty uninspired and her bouillabaisse was not as good as we've had at other lesser restaurants. We'll go back again someday, but with less enthusiasm. Hopefully, they can step up the menu a little bit more and recapture the essence that wowed us in the past."

"The food was mediocre, too much publicity for an average restaurant. We used to live in Paris and have dined at many wonderful restaurants, Bouchon was a disappointing experience, not impressive at all. "2nd time there and still not impressed. The boullibaise was a big disappointment; I guess I should be happy there wasn't much in the way of quantity, so I wouldn't continue to be incredulous for a longer time. (It was one of those dishes where you keep on eating because you tell yourself "the food has got to be better than this," but, with every bite, it ISN"T.) Service was mediocre. Coffee cam several minutes atfer dessert was served, we were promised more bread which never came, portions were small enough that you feel like you're being "taken...." My husband's drink had cherries in it instead of a twist of lime.

"My husband & I have been to Bouchon many times & love it each & every time. The bread is the best around & the salmon rillettes are unique & amazingly delicious. Servers can sometimes be frosty, but the runners & rest of staff are always friendly & accommodating. "The truffle risotto was the best we've ever had...and we've eaten a lot of risotto! Overall we rated our dining experience as one of the best we've had in our visits to the Napa/Sonoma areas. The food and service were notable even in comparison to such strong competition in the area. The staff bustled about, but did not rush us into ordering and kept the pace of service just right for us to enjoy the food. I am not a fan of tiny tables in close quarters, but the diners on either side were very gracious while the wait staff managed to get the food served elegantly in such tight spaces. As we noted above the noise level was energetic but not intrusive which kept the ambiance just right for a late dinner."

"This review is based on a lunch experience, so dinner could be different. The soups (Onion Soup and the soup of the day, a celery root soup) were perfect on a cold rainy day. The onion soup is quite heary - beef was a predominant flavor along with the sweet onions. The moules were incredibly sweet, but I strongly recommend that you share this dish. The presentation bowl was packed with these incredible mussels. I ended up taking the remainder home for dinner, and still didn't finish all of them. If you order a dish that includes french fries, expect a MOUND of fries per serving, more than enough for two to share (we took those home, too).

Seating is tight and would have felt too crowded if all tables were filled."

Downside: Crowded, but that is to be expected. However, they could probably lose the bench seating. Way too many big rear ends came close to spoiling someone's lunch trying to get out of their seats!"

"Bouchon was not my first choice for dining. I really wanted to go to French Laundry, but while I was in San Francisco, it was closed for their winter closing. I thought being a Thomas Keller restaurant, Bouchon would be a delightful experience, but I was left a little disappointed by Bouchon. The server was not very friendly but did an adequate job. They seemed to look down their noses at people. The food was not as good as I would have expected. All in all, I think I could have stayed in San Francisco and had a better meal with better service. I would recommend skipping the trip to Yountville for Bouchon."

"Bouchon is a well-oiled machine, with a perfectly executed seasonal bistro menu and outstanding waitstaff. We enjoyed a late lunch and during our nearly three hours were never rushed by our waiter. The winter menu is so delightful that we had difficulty deciding. The French onion soup is redolent of rich beef stock and onions that clearly have carmelized for hours. The pork belly with turnips and prunes was delectable -- the contrasting flavors and textures were perfectly matched. Another star was the cod brandade appetizer, fluffy beignets of salty cod, topped with a sundried tomato and crispy fried sage leaf. If you love upscale French bistro fare with a fresh California twist, in a lively, welcoming atmosphere, you will love Bouchon."

We showed up a half an hour early for our reservation and they seated us right away. We got recommendations from the people next to us, and although it was sometimes hard to hear the server over the buzz of voices, she was more than willing to repeat herself when needed! "I would have appreciated a little more interesting options for Napa Valley wines. We ordered two Fruits des Mer (one regular $62, one large $109) and while parts of the appetizers were excellent (oysters, mussels, crab), others were waterloged or overcooked (lobster and shrimp) and sauces were pretty simplistic. Our entrees were also problematic. Two of us had the roasted chicken. Chicken was flavorful and crispy, but spatzle was cut too small and was badly over-cooked. Another had the gnocchi dish which was undercooked to the point of being stringy. The final guest had the flat iron which was aweful, we were assulted by sharp garlic taste. Our service was terrible. Did not check back for almost an hour after entrees!"

"Croque Monsiuer was delicious. Substituted the black truffle fries for regular ones and they were so good. Portions were huge. "I was very dissapointed dining at this restaurant. I came all the way to Napa to try one of Tom Keller's restaurants. Since the French Laundry was closed, so I picked Buchon. My cousin and I couldn't stand the food. I don't know what was wrong but the French Onion soup was very bitter, the lamb shank was very blend (but the meat is cooked really well), and the seafood bisque sauce is bitter too. My cousin and I couldn't even eat more than half of the foods that we ordered. I'm still shocked ..."

"We had a reservation for late lunch in the middle of winter during the week. As soon as we arrived we were seated. The room was charming, with a lot of very nice touches. We loved that the menu folded around our napkins.
There was a fairly sumptuous choice of menu items, but both my dining partner and I ordered from the specials board. She had pumpkin soup and an open faced lamb sandwich, which she loved. I tried the soup, and while very good, was a little too onion-y for my taste. I had lobster tail on a ravioli with pear and pearl onions in a very nice sauce. This whole combination was too sweet, and would have been better without the lobster."

"Very nice restaurant, classic bistro menu, pleasant and well-organized service. Loved the french fries, also liked the option of adding shaved black truffles to any course. Ordered the rabbit special, rabbit 2 ways. Found the "rabbit sausage" to be bland and very mushy in texture which was rather disappointing. escargot was ok, puff pastry overcooked. Macaroni $ cheese with truffles excellent and leg of lamb was good. Cheap with the bread, table of 3 recieved small torn pice to share. For the money, a full piece of bread from a place known for their bakery isn't really too much to ask for. Had a better meal next door at Bottega for the same price."

"We had a great time at Bouchon. The baguettes and butter that are served at the beginning of the meal are AMAZING. At the suggestion of the waiter, I ordered the trout and it was the BEST trout I have ever had. My boyfriend was very happy with his pork belly, although he admitted that he liked my dish better. We finished our meal off with profiteroles and an eggnog pot de creme (both very tasty). Overall it was an excellent meal and reasonably priced given the excellent quality of the food and service!"

"We might have ordered the wrong things here because when I looked around, other people's entrees looked better than ours. Our salad was very tasty as was the foie gras, although the portion was enormous. My husband ordered the special, which was rabbit 2 ways and I ordered the pork belly. Neither of them came with any side dishes, so we ordered the truffle fries on the recommendation of the waiter. The rabbit was kind of bland. The pork belly was just a big piece of fatty pork, it would've worked better as a smaller portion as an appetizer. The fries were good, but again the portion was huge, we barely made a dent. I would advise trying the steak & frites or the chicken, they both looked really good at a nearby table."

"We were very disappointed with Bouchon. It is very popular because of the Thomas Keller name and his reputation. We were there for lunch and my wife's steak was just OK and she didn't need enough french fries for five people to be served withher steak-- what a waste. I feel that it is over priced for the meal that you receive. We will not eat there again, instead we will have lunch at Hurley's or Redd's and have a great meal and a fair price."

"Even though I made a reservation, I still had to wait about 10 minutes for my table. Then it took the server 10-15 minutes to arrive at our table to go over the daily specials. The place was smaller than I expected so the tables were rather close to each other. Since the restaurant was full, it felt quite crowded. After ordering, we saw our server more often. I sat near the kitchen so servers often brushed up against my chair every time they passed by. The food, however, was amazing. We ordered a steak frites, which was as good as the other reviewers said it was. The escargots were wonderfully buttery and the raw oysters were delicious. Overall, we had a great dining experience and we would be willing to return."

"When you walk into Bouchon, it would be easy to think that you have just walked down a side street and step into a local Bistro in Paris.
The ambience is very French; but in a warmer, friendlier manner. The cocktail list includes their signature Bouchon, which is a must for Martini drinkers. The night we were there, my wife had the Prix Fix meal. It included a Rabbit casserole that may be the best dish I have ever tasted in my life. I had roast leg of lamb, which was also exceptional. The presentation was attractive without being over the top and the service was attentive and friendly, without being intrusive. Wine list was extensive and the servers will gladly pair your selections with wines by the glass. Fabulous desserts. "I'll be back!"

"I have enjoyed dining at Bouchon seveal times in the past and again the service was excellent. While my overall experience was good - two things need help. The salmon tartare was very disappointing - poor flavor and the egg combination didn't work.
Secondly, while the pork belly was outstanding, it was served in an All Clad baking dish. It was ackward to use - no place for your flatware - and dramatically diminished the dining experience. Please leave the baking dishes in the kitchen."

"We were there on a busy Friday night. We had to wait 20 minutes past reservation time for a table. The noise was outrageous. I could not talk to my wife sitting across from me without speaking so loudly that other tables were certain to hear. My wife has a very fine trout which she liked a lot. I had bouillabaisse (one shrimp, a small piece of fish, a scallop (2?), and several small pieces of lobster served with a sauce). The best part was the sauce! As far as I am concerned, the place is overrated. I had much better meals at three other similarly priced restaurants - and I could carry on a reasonable conversation with my wife during the meals."
