"This was a restaurant suggested by my sister who lives in the area. She said it was one of the finest! Well, we took a group of 5 there and had an amazing time, great wine, fabulous meal and an excellent waiter who was very thorough in providing outstanding customer service! We had a fun time, we were not rushed, and felt that we would definitely come back!

"Came here on a date night to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday, and it was perfect for the occasion. The outdoor seating was comfortable and allowed for great people watching. We both started with the pasta sampling, which was delicious but a very small portion. I had the balsamic filet and he has the blueberry. We both agreed the balsamic was better, even though they are famous for the blueberry. My meat was cooked perfectly (medium, even on the rare side). We also had several glasses of the house red wine which was delicious.

The service was excellent. The hostess was pleasant, the waitress had great recommendations, the busboy made sure our water glasses were always full. They gave us a comp. dessert plate for his bday as a surprise."

"The pasta and meat were of nice quality, but the sauces were horrid. All tasted like they'd been frozen and microwaved. Cream sauces were way too thick and pasty. Go anywhere else."

"The food is incredible...the Filetto al Mirtillo (Blueberry Filet) is TO DIE FOR! The Strozzapreti al Pomodoro is scrumptious!
The staff were so helpful and paid just the right amount of attention to us (not too little, not too much) AND they surprised my wifey with a birthday dessert sampler! HOW SWEET IS THAT?!? (no pun intended)

Overall a great dining experience with delicious food and impeccable waitstaff. Will definitely return!"

"The filet mignon in blueberry sauce- imagine blueberry cheesecake topping. That is EXACTLY what it was and a LOT of it. They drowned a steak in sweet, sticky pie filling. I wiped it off- the meat had absolutely NO flavor. This means that the steaks are frozen for WAY too long. I couldn't eat the dish. When the server finally came he said "I wish you had told me." Well, this is the first I've seen you... He said I would have offered you something else. (Would have??) I said how about dessert, then? 5 minutes later he came back and said management said NO to a free dessert! Because I was splitting the steak (we each got pasta tasting and salad and plenty of wine, our bill was $125- I wasn't being cheap) they decided to be ungracious and tacky"

"Went here for a business meeting and it was so great. Try the pasta tasting menu to start, it was very good. The wine list is exceptional--you review the wine list on an ipad very trendy. One of my favorites in the Gaslamp."

"This was our first visit to Acqua Al 2. It will be the start of many. Because we had not experienced the kind of Italian food on this menue we started with the pasta selections. Five differing tastes - each cooked al dente with a variety of unusual sauses like butternut squash, spinach, yellow pepper and tomatoe/herb. What a wonderful introduction !!. We chose signature entrees - never have I had a fillet with blueberry sause or a balsamic reduction sause - a marvellous contrast in flavors and with a shared roasted potatoe dish and arugula salad the meal was simply delightful. Wine selections and pairings are presented on a playbook/tablet so one can see a full description of each. The desert tasting plate was a wonderful finish."

"My wife and I found Acqua Al 2 on Open Table and it did not disappoint. We did the chef's tasting menu and it was awesome. The sauces were not over-seasoned, the meats were cooked just right, and the pastas were outstanding. The service was exceptional as well. Highly recommended."

"We went during Mardi Gras, as the S.D Gaslamp M.G had a restaurant package.

Our server was awesome, the food was awesome, and considering it was Mardi Gras, the noise wasn't an issue. We started with the 5 pasta sampler, and the pasta & pumpkin won out. We could have had that as one of our meals. For our meals, we ordered the Balsamic Filet {Filetto al Aceto Balsamico} and a seafood pasta {muscles, scallops, etc}. Both were amazing. The steak was cooked beautifully, and the seafood pasta, well, I didn't share much :) They have a huge wine selection, and we found a moderately priced {65} bottle from Italy that was just perfect with the meal. {We almost ordered a second bottle}."

"After visiting this restaurant before and telling our friend about the wonderful experience we had we were not only disappointed but embarrassed that we had spoken so highly of this place. It is common for a place to have a bad night BUT when it happens to us one night and then 3 separate parties we tell who are like us visiting San Diego and want a good meal on one of your few nights out and receive a WELL below PAR meal, it was very embarrassing.
We aren't sure what has happened to this once wonderful place but we do hope they regain their form or else others will discover what we did and will have the same result of not returning
As always "your mileage may vary" but it seems in this case only slightly"

"The worst food I have ever had at a fine dining restaurant. All the sauces on the pasta sampler were dry like they have been sitting out for hours. The filet mignon with balsamic glaze was swimming in sauce and the filet had no sear on it. I would never eat there again I was more then disappointed"

"We love Italian food here and in Italy and have been to Acqua al 2 's excellent sister restaurant in Florence. But for the second time we have been disappointed with this restaurant. The food was good but nothing special and does not draw us back. San Diego has many Italian restaurants and so the competition is keen. Acqua Al 2 is not top tier. It is difficult to critique the food as there was really nothing notable about it either good or bad--just that it was mediocre. The pasta which was to be spicy was bland, the steak was good but toomheavynwith the basalmic reduction. The caprese salad was quite good.

"the pasta was good-we had their sampler for a party of 6, but the rest of the food did not shine. There was a special event there that evening, a song and wine "pairing" which was a bit annoying since we were not participating in it, but the volume of the singing overtook the resaurant."
