"We had a tremendous evening celebrating our daughter's college graduation. It was a lively atmosphere whcih added to the occasion. The service was excellent. Our steaks were cooked to perfection and all the dishes were delicous."

"My wife and I took our 86 year old friend and her husband there to celebrate her birthday. The staff was very attentive and wished her happy birthday many times as well as providing her a dessert. The food and service were outstanding."

"am regular customer, just haven't been in few months. place was 30% capacity. the 2 of us were seated at odd table where we had to sit beside each other instead of being able to look at us. was also in intense, harsh lighting. very loud for such small crowd. ordered very expensive steak MED-RARE. quite some time later a well-done steak was presented. had waited so long, was not willing to wait that long again, so "toughed" it out. good choice of words there. a manager came to table, apologized, offered to comp steak AND A DESSERT. bill came. steak was indeed removed. wound up paying for promised free dessert. very disappointed as my date had never been there and I was hoping to make good impression."

"The restaurant accepted and confirmed my reservation for 11 pm on a Thursday (post-concert time) but was closing down when we got there at exactly that time. They had my phone number through OpenTable, but never called me to say "oops, you just booked but there's a problem, we can't take you then." Totally unprofessional"

"The lack of attention to seemingly small details made what could have been a great experience into a just OK experience. Had to wait 25 minutes for a table, despite having reservations. After finally being seated, I felt like we were an afterthought to our server's workload, as he paid little attention to us and we had to flag him down when we needed anything. Although one of our steaks came out very much undercooked, the food in general was very good. I was also very impressed with their wines by the glass, which is great for couples who have differing taste in wines. I will probably go back again to give Sullivan's another chance, but I can't recommend to anyone else yet until I check them out further."

"The reeled us in by sending a free $25 gift card. We each had the 3-course meal for $39 and were not disappointed. All of our selections were very delicious and served in a timely manner. The only drawback to the evening was the waitstaff was very meek and not as personable as we like but a good server nonetheless. We will definitely be back!"

"I have not been back to Sullivan's in many years. In my mind Sullivan's should be on par with Papas Steakhouse and the likes. The prices and mostly the ambiance are. However, in my opinion, the server can make or break the dining experience. Our server was dim and dismal to say it kindly. I was shocked that waiter would be cut loose on the public when he doesn't know the menu.
SUMMARY:
we were seated 50 min post our reservation time
our waiter did not visit our table until 8-10 mins after being seated
it took 10 mins for our bottle of wine to be delivered to our table after we ordered it...which the waiter fumbled with opening

"Special place for special ocassions. The ambience is upscale. Is a nice place to take your date to. It may seem a little bit pricey comparing to other restaurants, but it is totally worth it. I allways care first for the quality of the food, I don't get fooled by sparks and whistles in "fancy" and snob restaurants. Also I don´t like to over pay for a meal, and in this place, you get a lot for your money, in every way. I fully recommend it!"

"I had the opportunity to be in Austin for the first time on a house shopping week and wanted a special dinner to celebrate the trip so I resorted to internet reviews to find the Best of the Best for steak in Austin- unfortunately, the choice I made which was reported as the best wasn't!!
Very disappointed in not only the food but the service. We ordered 3 steaks and they were all cooked differently and not one was as ordered; the sides were pre cooked and tasted "old".
Our waitress "seemed" to be out of it, she whispered as she talked so we could not understand what she was saying and I bought a bottle of wine that I asked to be decanted which she did but she left it on the table and after about 20 minutes I poured the wine."

"This is the second time in a few weeks that the kitchen has mixed up our order. Both times I ordered steak rare and received a medium to medium rare steak. Other people in the party ordered medium rare and received a rare steak - but they didn't mind. On the first visit, I mentioned it to the manager and he brought me a new steak but by that time everyone in our party had finished their meals. He also said next visit to tell him and the steak was on him. I didn't do that. On the second visit, I told our waiter when he came back to check on our food about the steak but it was later and again everyone in the party had finished. Too bad they can't get the orders straight. Will have to reconsider recommending the restaurant or going back"

"I already sent in a review yesterday, but everything was fantastic. the one thing that ruined it was the two orders of sea bass. we have ordered it before and it is to die for. one of my favorite things. It tasted like flounder or just plain fish. it was dry, not a good flavor or texture. it was extremely disappointing.

"Our waitor azil? was stuck up. Didn't really listen - we asked for dressing on the side that didn't happen. We had to ask other waiters for water refills. The food was ok - shrimp over cooked and filet steak was tough. We ordered tempura onion rings and they were your basic fuddruckers rings. Still delicious but nothing to be excited about. The music was great but if you weren't seated near the bar you couldn't hear anything. Just kitchen noise. Overall the seasoning was great on all the food. Service was ok but if your visiting Austin - look for another spot."

"Very extensive wine list and a waitstaff that is exceptionally knowledgeable regarding the wines on it. I had a Bone in rib eye that was very flavorful. My wife had the bone in filet equally tasty. There was a small acoustic band in the bar area that played nice jazzy music and then there is Sullys Bar attached to the restaurant that offers a sports bar atmosphere. It was a very nice last minute dinner choice."

"Went to Sullivan's for a mid-week dinner to celebrate a friend's promotion. We each enjoyed a cocktail, I highly recommend the Blackberry Buck. We started with the Shanghai Calamari appetizer, which was sweet, a little spicy, and delicious. We had Caesar salads, and I felt like the taste was watered down. I had the 8 oz. filet mignon with the bourbon peppercorn sauce, and I felt like the medium-rare was a little closer to rare, but it was flavorful and tender. My friend had the cedar plank salmon and said it was very good. It came with a sauce on top, which she things was steak sauce.
I felt the restaurant was a good choice for a special occasion. For the price the food was good and so was the service."

"Food was very good - service was absolutely terrible. Our waitress would stop by and basically drop something off and get out of there as quick as she could. We initially ordered an appetizer and were finished eating it before our waitress came back to take our order. We had to ask what the specials were as she never offered them. When it came to ordering drinks, I wanted a beer - our waitress had no idea what beers were on the menu. Someone else ended up coming over to tell me what beers they had. After the first beer was finished, the same waitress that brought the first beer took my order for a second beer - it never came."

"For a restaurant this expensive, the kind where every side item is extra, I would expect slightly better service. It was nice ambiance, but nothing special. Our food was very good. The one example of service that I would say should never happen in a restaurant this expensive is that two of us ordered a drink and they brought the wrong drink. It was an honest mistake on the part of the server, so we said we would still take the drinks so they don't go to waste. When we got our check, she never acknowledged the mistake or removed them from the bill. It also happened to be more expensive than what we ordered in the first place. We paid for it without complaint, but I would normally expect it to be comped without even asking."

"Sullivan's used to be one of my favorite steak restaurants. However, over the last 2 years I have seen a steady decline in the overall quality of the experience and the food, specifically the steaks.
The last 2 visits have really re-enforced this observation. My steak the other night could easily have been purchased from a regular grocery store - just not a quality piece of meat. Additionally it seemed to not have been prepared correctly and was tough. And this was a ribeye with plenty of fat to keep that from happening.
Finally, they now also have somewhat gaudy hard paper menus.
I am not sure if this is new ownership, an attempt to increase the profit, or what.

"I am the executive director of a state agency with offices a few blocks from Sullivan's. I often walk to Sullivan's for lunch when I want to discuss business with my agency managers, licensees, their associations and/or other interested parties in a nice business environment. (These lunches are NOT paid for by the state.) The food is good, service is great, the atmosphere is pleasant. and the prices are quite reasonable."

"Each time I go to Sullivan's I have the same reaction. The food is average while the service is very good. There are better Steaks in Austin and better seafood too. Nothing was bad it was just not very good. Given the prices, I would expect more. This is my third or fourth time there and probably my last."

"My wife and I love this place, but because the prices are a bit high, it forces me to visit only for special occasions. Those special occasions are made all the more special with the service and food received there.
The place was packed on my last visit.. Valentines evening! But I was seated as soon as I walked in, as I arrived right on time for my reservation."

"Showed up on time for an 8pm reservation, was told the table wasn't ready. We were seated at 8:20 - not ok in Austin. The waiter was nice and eager to please but clearly new and really sticking to the script and wasn't very knowledgeable. The bisque was nice, but we came in for the featured stone crab claws, which were slightly undercooked which makes them a huge chore to get out of the shell. My NY strip was probably about the medium rare right in the center, but grey for a good 1/4 inch in from each edge, indicating it was cooked in a hurry without any finesse. Even the wedge salad had issues - whoever washed the lettuce didn't do a good job drying it so water mixed with dressing on the plate."

"We love Sullivan's but this night they left us disappointed. With a private company event going on adjacent to the restaurant floor, they over-extended their ability to handle that event and the restaurant crowd felt it with slow service. Overall our dining experience took twice as long as usual. While we will go back again sometime, we will be careful to inquire if they are holding an event at the same time as they proved they can not do both well."
