The Hyde Street Seafood House specializes in 'En Papillote' cooking, a traditional French technique of baking in parchment paper. Julienned vegetables, fresh herbs, white wine, and a selection of fresh seafood are wrapped in parchment paper and baked to perfection, sealing in the food's natural flavors and juices.
"This is a high quality, healthy choice for seafood at a reasonable price. Also, you can get in for dinner same day on the weekends, which is no small feat for a quality restaurant in San Francisco. They seated us right on time with our reservation and the service was attentive without being overbearing. Two of us had the fresh halibut prepared in parchment paper with vegetables and potato, which was one "catch of the day" and it was both spectacular and low fat, finished with an orange zest. My daughter, who is a CIA trained and a total foodie, had the cioppino and said is was really good also. In addition, we had a Russian River Zin to wash it down which was a very good wine and again, reasonably priced for Russian Hill. I will return."

"Lived up to reviews posted on Open Table. Somewhat limited fresh fish menu, but what was available was very tasty. Try the oysters. On the Hyde Street cable car line which makes access very handy. Knowledgable wait staff."

"I used to live in the neighborhood - The Raw Bar was a special place to drink wine and wave at the tourists passing by on the cable car - It was a Romantic Friday Evening Experience. After 12 years away from The City, I returned to find that Old City neighborhood charm still there and the owners still personally attending to their patrons. And the food was great.
The date didn't work out, but the Seafood House & Raw Bar is a true San Francisco Gem"

"I love Hyde Street Seafood. Their food is awesome! Always fresh tasting, and healthy too! For seafood, it is also very reasonably priced, especially for the portions you get. I can't wait to go again!"

"I absolutely loved this place! I picked the restaurant off of Yelp reviews and personal taste. This place doesn't get extremely busy during the week and is small, neighborhood-like. It is also across the street from a Wine Bar if you'd like to go before/after dinner for some additional wine tasting."

"Pretty quick service, good selection of seafood, but the lobster was horrible. It was terribly tough, and when we asked about it the waiter said he would check but that because it is baked and not steamed, its harder to pull the meat out. He came back and said, yes, that is how it is supposed to be. I could not even chew some pieces. I was surprised they did not care at all that the meal was so bad. The halibut was great. I think you need to stick to their specialty- don't order the lobster. Cute place overall but doubt I'll go back."

"I really appreciate restaurants like the Hyde Street Seafood House, truly a unique neighborhood gem, and a vanishing breed in today's trend of the month" style of cuisine. After a short cable car ride up the hill (my daughter's first), my small family was treated to a wonderful evening meal at very good prices. The staff is THE friendliest, most down to earth group I have ever seen in SF- a town where hipness, smugness, condescension and an anti-child mentality pervades the industry. I love the homey, locals feel, and the deliciously simple style of their dishes.
I will be returning here every time we come back to visit SF. Excellent."

"Good food, but don't go on a Friday night. Our reservation was for 8:30 and we were seated at 9:15. They were over-booked and should not have taken my reservation. Because there were so many people waiting it was very noisy. I have been there during the week when they are not so busy and it was much better."

"We had been referred to Hyde Street by friends and it was just as they told us. We were late for our reservation and they were very accommodating. Our table was soon ready and the service was excellent. There were moments when there seemed to be a delay in service but it was really part of the flow. Food was excellent and the choices were great. The parchment roasting was great. Servers were attentive to our needs. Overall, we were very pleased with our visit and would return on another trip to San Francisco. Pricing was very agreeable."

"The beer was fantastic! The food was pretty good, but I wasn't blown away, except for the oysters which I loved. The people were nice and very attentive."

"It's good for seafood comfort food and the basics like oysters and clam chowder. But don't expect great cuisine for fresh fish. The crab cakes we're fairly gooey, but the spicy shrimp was good."

"The wait at our table for our main course was quite long (maybe at least 40 minutes?), but the food was excellent. And it was a Saturday night. Servers were very nice."
