"The server was nowledgable and made very good recommendations. the menu does tend to change from time to time - in a good way - but some favorites are usually there. The service was good, not too attentive but not too forgetful either. The food - fish and beef - was delicious."

"The food was,unexpectedly, delicious. Ambiance very nice except for the noise which prevents intimate conversation. Parking can be a problem but usually can be found. Downstairs is a noisy bar but upstairs a surprisingly we;; decorated except for the closeness of the tables."

"We had a party of 8 for a business dinner. All first timers THOROUGHLY enjoyed our meals. We ordered appetizers, salads, entrees, and dessert. One thing I didn't personally like was the Strawberry Jam Tart, it was dry and nothing to wow about. Someone else had the carrot cake and it was divine! We had an outstanding server who had only started a couple of weeks ago, she was very knowledgeable about all foods and very attentive and pleasant! We vowed to come back soon!"

"Normally, Liberty Tavern is a solid choice, but when we went for lunch, there was one person manning the entire downstairs (including outside). Service was slow and sloppy, and other diners looked frustrated. The food was still good, but the place obviously needs more than one waiter downstairs at lunch peak."

"The food and service were great, but I wish it was a little more quiet. The bar music/noise overflowed upstairs to the dining area. We left just in time, as the DJ was just starting play music and it was ridicuously loud. This started at about 9:45, so I am wondering if that is their way to get lingering diners out of the restaurant...it worked!!!"

"Had a business dinner and wanted to invite my guest to a place he'd never been before while making a good impression. He's a "foodie", but didn't want to travel outside of Arlington for the evening.
I decided that upstairs at Liberty Tavern would provide a vibrant enough atmosphere while still allowing us to speak easily.
We started with the bacon (basically pork belly) and it was marvelous. My Scallops over lentils with roasted beet sauce was TDF (to die for). The service was impeccable and attentive without too much hovering. My associate was duly impressed with our evening and will be returning with his partner next weeked to try other dishes! Thanks Liberty T!"

But the outdoor portion was a big disappointment - right on the sidewalk in the middle of construction and cranes, lots of buses and traffic, no plants or decoration, no attempt to make it cozy or pleasant outside. Better to eliminate the tables on Irving street."

"We were surprised by our visit to Liberty Tavern. We had eaten there in the Fall and the food and menu choices were fantastic, as was the service. On this visit, the menu choices weren't as interesting, and the food was not as well-seasoned and delicious as on our last visit. Most disappointing, however, was the service. On our first visit, we had a wonderful server, while this time our server was inattentive and did not make any menu suggestions. I would have strongly recommended Liberty Tavern after my first visit, but can't recommend it now."

"Food was just OK. I had eaten here before and enjoyed the pizza. This time 3 adults ordered main courses and non was really memorable. One child ordered off the kids menu and thought it was pretty good.
We had mentioned in the reservation that it was a birthday celebration but restaurant never acknowledged it.

"Four of my friends and I went there for brunch. We were all pretty unimpressed with the over all experience. We decided to do the buffet. I had heard good things so was expecting something much better. The service wasn't overly great or bad, the food was fine, nothing really stuck out. One of the people in our party really liked the pizza! The fruit was fresh. Things that I thought would be served cold were room tempature and things that I thought should have been served warm were cold. Probably won't be going back, for brunch at least."

"We have been to Liberty Tavern several times, and the food is always fantastic, however this time the service was exceptionally slow. It took quite a while for the staff to offer us our first drink - nearly 30 minutes. After we had placed our order, another long wait ensued before our appetizers came out.
While I highly recommend the bacon salad and the short-ribs, it is too much for one person in one meal. The short ribs are amazing and should prioritized over the bacon.
Also on a Friday night, expect it be loud. It is OK for kids with the noise, they won't stand out, but it is much more a bar/restaurant."

"Had 5:30 reservation, waited 15 mins for table for 10 and when got upstairs to table, the room was practically empty?! Waiter was excellent, very personable and knowledgeable of menu. Food was marginal, skirt steak too greasy and overdone, Amish chicken bland. Not in a hurry to return for food. Noisy to hold conversation and chairs not comfortable."

"Went for a birthday lunch. Service slow and forgetful, food average at best, fish had been frozen, salad drowned in dressing, bread was awful. Upstairs dining room has all the ambience of a works cafeteria. Downstairs seems nicer, but it is for those looking for the bar experience. Totally mystified how this gets on to the ten food bests in DC so often. Lyon Hall by same owners and nearby is so much better."

"Since this restaurant was on the top 100, I expected something beyond ordinary. It is ordinary, reasonable food, a bit above Friday's or Ruby Tuesday's but at a much higher price. Reservations are taken but not necessary, other local places were booked solid but there were empty tables all around. They seemded to want to seat everyone together and we were crowded into a tiny table despite many, larger tables were available. The salads, scallops, and gnochi were ok, but bland. This is an ok place to take a kid for pizza but definitely not a place to impress a date."

"This is my favorite place to go for Sunday brunch! The food is amazing, and I love the buffet style set up. The best part about my experience this time was my waiter left the restaurant and went to CVS to get me a Gatorade because I was not feeling well. It made me feel truly valued and special. I will definitely be going back because I feel so welcomed every time I walk in and the food is outstanding."

"Food was great as usual. Got the cheese platter again with waiter's picks and the short ribs w ravioli. Ravioli was to die for, short ribs were a bit chewy and gamey but the pasta more than made up for it. Finished up with the cream brûlée. Orange gel thing was a little overwhelming but it was off to the side so I was able to enjoy the cream brûlée without it! My friend's pasta dishes disappeared. He ordered 2 halves and was finished with them before I could take 2 bites.
The best part of this meal as always was our waiter Bryan. He always picks out great cheeses for the and is very timely and attentive with out being overbearing. He is great at describing platters and knows the menu! Kudos to him in a city where service can be subpar!"

"A group of 4 of us went for their brunch buffet on a Sunday. Tip: make it an early reservation! The crowds arrive around 11:00am, and while the staff does a great job of replenishing the buffet, the area doesn't allow for too many people to stand in line. The french toast is very popular, though my favorite is the mulled apple cider and lox spread."
