Located in the heart of the Back Bay (across the street from Trinity Church). Skipjack's has devoted itself to importing the freshest seafood from around the world and offering it at the best prices in town. Skipjack's is a local favorite. Superb seafood, prime steak and a fresh creative sushi menu. Delicious cocktails and libations with an award winning wine list.
"Maine lobster came, just not what I would expect for Boston. 1.5 pound was very small tail piece and not well cooked, very dry although I order it steamed. Only side was a tiny coleslaw and no rice or potatoes when I asked for steamed veggies instead of french fries. Who the cost -- C+."

"Mother's Day lunch was a very pleasant experience at Skipjacks. The food was exceptional and we had a very enjoyable experience. We have been going to Skipjacks for years (at various locations) and always find their food to be top of the line, service to be prompt and accomodating and the overall experience very high quality."

"Although the food was good, the speed of the service left a lot to be desired. It took forever to get our drinks and then our food. It was not crazy busy, so we could not understand why everything was so slow. Given the competetion for good seafood places at this price point, I probably won't return."

"Arrived a few minutes early for our noon reservation, seated right away in a section that was very crowded, we ordered right away since we had to get back to work within the hour or so. We ordered an appitizer for the table and we also gave our server our lunch order at the same time. The appitizer came out promptly and then we waited and waited and waited and waited, when we did see our server he would tell us I am checking the kitchen or it is coming right out. Every other table around us was getting their lunch except us, at 1:00 we got our lunch, he obviously forgot to put our order in."

"used to be a go-to for good seafood but recent trip there with 4 others was very disappointing; service was disjointed and slow during early part of lunch hour (although friendly). Food was subpar; fish was overcooked and over-salted....probably will be a while before I go back and I used to go quite often as I work in the building"

"Was in Boston for first time ever on a business conference... My boss had recommended we have dinner there when we planned the trip... Was very disappointed... Had my heart set on getting a stuffed lobster! Had already studied the menu online in advance... When waiter took our order and told him I wanted the lobster he stated it was in between seasons and they was out of lobsters!!! I was totally heart broken!!!"

"Food was excellent, much better even than I remembered. Skipjack-style fish preparation was delicious, and the vegetables were cooked perfectly. My only complaint would be the awful bread they serve........it was stale, as well as tasteless."

"A friend was in from out of town and fresh seafood is always the number one choice for visitors. I had never been to Skipjack's before, but someone suggested it. The food was delicious! She had lobster bisque and I had calamari (spicy). We each had the wasabi-encrusted salmon and split a waffle dessert. Everything was outstanding. The service was top-notch, and our waitress also patiently took photos of us using two cameras. We never felt rushed, which allowed our conversations to meander except for necessary interruptions. We were very pleased with the amount of the bill as it was less that we anticipated for such a great experience."

"My husband and I dined often at the Skipjack's in Natick years ago and it was always outstanidng. Fast foward to now and the experience was not the same, or perhaps their food/reputation has changed over the years unbeknownst to me. It was restaurant week and the place was empty for a Thurs nite. The server was delightful but the entrees were fair at best. The shrimp cocktail appetizer gets a bigs thumbs up; there were five shrimp that were huge and tasty. Regarding the entrees though, my scallops were chewy and gritty on a few bites. The green beans were not cooked enough - I don't mind al dente but they needed a few more minutes. My husband's swordfish (done Skipjack style) was just "ok"

"Sunday brunch is just that..brunch. The usual seafood favorites are hard to find and the egg based menu is just fair. The "jazz" was reduced to a trio with a machine providing bass notes and fill ins...all just OK...not as great as it once was. Thinking about not going back, but will probably give it one more try."

"We were disappointed. The Ipswitch clams were chewy, the fish and chips were too thick on the batter and though I ordered my salmon well done, it came medium. The "sea salt fries" were just plain french fries and not hot."

"Service was excellent, appreciated call the day before to confirm reservation. Our fish (Salmon and Haddock Skipjack style of course) was amazing. Unbelievably fresh, and melt-in-your mouth tender. Our favorite seafood in Boston!!"

"Everything was fine at Skipjack's except for the seating, lighting and overall "vibe". There is not a private feel to the tables, the chairs are quite uncomfortable (no arms, little padding) and the lighting is harsh. The waiter was great, the food was pretty good. It's a sleepy restaurant, better suited to lunch than dinner. I went on a Friday night and they were shutting down at 11pm."

"The menu has been pared down somewhat, so it offers less variety than it did a couple of months ago. We like Skipjack's a lot, in part because it's near a theater we go to and is much quieter than Post 390 which is deafening and frantic. Not that Skipjack's is dead. It's just right in terms of noise level. The kitchen always produces excellent meals; its fish dishes are truly fresh (and we have never been offered a mis-labeled seafood dish.) The servers know the menu well and are efficient without being brusque."

"Several in our party had the New England fish fry - several items were tough. And when you are paying close to $30 per entree, NOTHING should be tough. I suggest the fresh fish itemsw. Hard to go wrong here."

"Arrived at 6;30 ordered fried clams they were sold out. At 6:30? They comped my meal. A lobster roll, too much bread for me, no tail meat. My wife had fish tacos they ok. Food srrived promptly cold and hot respectively. Service was very good our waiter was attentive and professional. Dining room was not very warm, seemed designed for fast meal service, not a long multi course meal. Overall good, service very good, food good."

"It was Valentines Day-starting with when I walked in the door to meet my dinner companion, they sat us at the bar, despite the fact that hey were not busy and we were not late. They were 20 minutes behind. Once we were seated we were not greeted by a waiter for another 15 minutes. I don't want to relive it so I'll make it quick. Service was a nightmare! I was told that they would have their regular menu in addition to their ale tines day menu. Bad info. Just one menu that nigh and no substitutions of any kind. The longer we stayed the worse it got. We had Ceasar salad, Oysters &Scallops, Shrimp and Salmon no veggie...it was good. The service & wait was so bad that I even tho the food was good I wouldn't go back."

"We were looking to have a good seafood dinner for Valentines Day. I went through Open Table and searched Boston Back Bay and seafood...and Skipjacks was on the list. For some reason, I liked the name. The previous reviews gave it a 4 star rating, and it was near our hotel, so without my usual thorough internet review, I just booked it. Sometimes you just have to follow your instincts, and this time they lead me to the perfect restaurant for our needs! They were having a Valentine's Prix Fixe, and it was a great deal. Food was FANTASTIC! We had a table in a little cubby, which suited us perfectly, and the service was timely and very fast.
My one complaint goes to this and most all restaurants: Make desserts without chocolate!"

"Mixed feelings. Oysters were ok, entree was really poor (too deep fried for my taste), wine list ok. Service was efficient but restaurant was empty, so no noise but no ambiance. First but last time. Try something else in Back Bay."

"I had requested a table in a corner on my open table reservation as we had a business meeting. we were seated instead at a small 4 top that was too close to other tables and barely had room to move. Food was okay, but maybe a little heavy on preparation and sauces such that the seafood itself could not shine."

"I really enjoyed my experience at Skipjack's. I was in Boston for business, and a local recommended it as a good seafood place. I have to say it lived up to it. I had the Skipjack's combination with swordfish, shrimp, and a crabcake, and it was delicious. I particularly enjoyed the crabcake, which was tender, baked, and not greasy. The bread they give you before the meal is quite tasty as well. My colleague order the smallest lobster available, and it was still the biggest lobster I've ever seen. It was also nice they they allowed us to get a three-glass order of wine to split instead of ordering separate glasses and paying more. Overall, I'd say I accomplished my mission of have some good seafood in Boston."

"First visit in recent history, overall quite positive. Requested quiet table for 2 on OpenTable, got nice booth. It was a surprisingly quiet Friday night. Good reliable choices of wine by glass, enjoyed the Alexander Valley Chardonnay - perfect richer wine match to drink before arrival of food and also with the seafood. They offer standard preparations of various fish (broiled, blackened etc) and also a "Skipback's style" which was quite delicious. The hostess described it as similar to blackened, but lighter, with a touch of soy flavor. Had it with the snapper, delicious. Simple accompaniments, which suits me fine. Very competent and appropriately attentive waitress."

"We were a little hesitant at first because there were so few diners. Cocktails were good and the food delicious. We ordered oysters and enjoyed them very much. Both of us ordered seafood minestrone. It was so filling that we didn't feel the need to order entrees. Next time I'm in Boston, I would definitely return.
Vicki, our server, was fabulous!"

"We were looking for authentic, beautiful seafood without any tourist-y frills, and we certainly got it! Food was super-fresh and well-prepared but not fussy. Salad was the right size to share for two, and the servers were very considerate about our splitting of portions among the two of us. Of our two main dishes we tried, the grilled scallops were closer to our ideal -- piping hot, tender, and just beautifully browned on top. Again, one plate was great for sharing. The staff was very attentive and friendly on a busy Saturday night. We would love to return here next time we are in Boston!"

"I wasn't sure if my group would be 8 or 9 people, so I noted that in my reservation. The staff was very flexible when we showed up with 10 people, adding two additional place settings with a smile on their faces. The food was good. We ordered three orders of the crab artichoke spinach dip appetizer for the table, and at $8 apiece it was very good. The majority of us ordered the Pasta Frutti di Mare for our entré, and I think that everyone was as satisfied with theirs as I was. It was a large portion and the sauce had just a touch of spice to it, which offset the seafood nicely. Overall a very good dinner."

"Every time I visit I swear I will try something other than my two favorites. I still haven't succeeded. The Gingered Sea Bass and the Wasabi Encrusted Salmon are two of my ultimate favorite meals. My dining companion had never been to New England. I made sure he tried the chowder (which he enjoyed immensely), and ended up with the same sea bass dish as me, and he enjoyed it just as much."
