Since opening in December 2001, red maple has become the place in Baltimore to experience the modern lounge vibe. "For an amazing, quiet dinner, get there early. The husband and I got there when it opened and ended up having amazing tapas. The gnocchi with brussel sprouts in sage butter was so good we ordered two, the pumpkin dumplings in cardamom cream made me want to lick the plate, and the lemon creme brulee was creamy and tart with the right amount of sweetness. I've heard it gets crowded and crazy in the evenings, but on a Thursday at 7pm it was all ours."

"I loved the tapas menu! There was a variety of options and everything we tried tasted great! The seating was very comfortable and some of the tables even had fireplaces next to them. Overall great experience."

"The food was good and the prices reasonable, but the seating was too uncomfortable for eating a meal. The music level was reasonable when we arrived but about half-way through our meal, the volume increased to a level that required us to shout at each other in order to be heard. Since we were the only customers in the front room (there were a few more in the bar area in back), I asked someone to turn the music down. He made a face to show his annoyance and then turned it off in the front and up in the back. I guess we were messing up his evening..."

"unique and insanely delicious food with small plates fit for sharing. The low tables with sofa seating and overall ambiance was perfect for catching up with friends in a distinguished and sophisticated setting. This was the first time going to Red Maple and it certainly will not be the last - one of the best dining experiences I have ever had!"

"Went to this restaurant for the very first time with 2 girlfriends. The food was good, but came out sporadically. Most tapas restaurants I have been to bring out several dishes at a time, if that is the way they are ordered. At Red Maple, most of our dishes came out separately with wait time between. It was alright, but with three people sharing, it would have been better for the food to come out several items at a time, so all three of us weren't fighting over one small plate. Amelia, our server, was very pleasant. I appreciated that my ice water glass was kept full throughout the night. The one drawback is the seating. The banquette was not firmly attached to the wall; the hassocks are low. Noone with a bad back could sit here!"

"I really enjoyed my visit to Red Maple on Friday night with my girlfriends. The atmosphere was very relaxing and nicely decorated. Cozy couches, fireplace and friendly customer service. They also was doing free makeovers and photo shoots...how great is that ! ;-) The Dj was playing a great mixture of music. Overall very nice upscale place. Oh..did I mention the drinks were awesome ! Lol"

"The menu was very interesting and everything that came to our table tastes fantastic; especially the pumpkin dumplings and the lamb. Our server Erin made our engagement the special occasion we wanted it to be. The only odd thing was the banquette seats against the wall. They were very uncomfortable and awkward. It sounds like a strange thing to complain about but it took away from the otherwise excellent meal!"

"This is my second time going to Red Maple and I was not impressed. The food was mediocre at best. Some of the food felt like it came from the frozen section at your local grocery store. The drinks were pricey and tasted water downed."

"I bought a deal from Living Social for the Red Maple. My guest and I hated the music, seating, table height, and the very low lighting. There are couches along the walls, small tables in front and very small square cushioned seats with no backs across from them. The small seats were uncomfortable and the tables were so low that the food is farther from you. I made a mess. The decor and furniture is for a happy hour crowd but the food is restaurant quality. The pumpkin dumplings with cardamom sauce and lamb burger are delicious! The calamari, lemon creme brulee and mango martini are very good as well. Our server was very attentive and the food was great so we will be back but both of us seated on the couch next time."

"Fair location for having drinks if you just want a good atmosphere. The food was only fair which would be fine if they had fabulous drinks. Both cocktails ordered tasted mass produced and not great. We ordered two separate wines, a cabernet and a pinot noir. Both came looking like fruit juice and had no flavor. It was as if they had been watered down. NOT a foodie experience."

"If you choose to go here on a Saturday night, this is not a restaurant at that time, it's a club; extremely uncomfortable seats, tapas that emerge 45 minutes after ordered, the bar is backed up, drinks that emerge half an hour later and if you reserved a table at 9, you'll have to leave it by 11 to make room for the bottle service booked by promoters. This last bit they'll remind you of at about 5 minutes to 11, while you have the bill on the table waiting for the server to collect it. The food started out well but declined in quality over the course of the evening. Do not be fooled by the first plate of calamari, order it once, it will only get harder later. Club yes, restaurant no."

"While the tapas were excellent, our group would have loved to see how many each plate would feed before ordering. Some of the plates were extremely small and feed 1, but some were larger, like the cheese tray, and feeds 4.

"Great dinner out at Red Maple with a small group! The food was fantastic and creative. The chef nailed the details, down to beautiful presentation, unusual sauces (wasabi-vodka cocktail sauce for coconut shrimp and lemon aoli for lobster cakes - mmmm!) and some pleasantly surprising ingredients. Each dish came with some kind of fresh accent - including fresh herbs and fruits - which made for a nice balance with the richness of the flavors in the main parts of the dishes. The server was helpful with wine suggestions and attentive, and the timing of the courses was perfect, allowing for the right amount of conversation and suspense between courses. Highly recommended for large groups who like to share!"

"The food and service were very good but what a pretentious restaurant!. No sign outside (just look for the trees etched on the glass doors)and all of the seating is low stools and cushions while the tables are coffee-table height. It's lovely to look at but makes eating more difficult than neccessary, and I can't imagine that it's comfortable for the servers. According to our server, the bar really starts hopping around 11 PM, so one would think that the food would be an afterthought, but it was quite good. I had two excellent lobster crab cakes and my spouse had a yummy grilled portabello. But this is so obviously a spot for young people that we won't be back."

"On a Thursday night, we were only one of 3 tables there for dinner. The waitress/hostess was attentive. I had the lamb chop appetizer which completely lacked flavor. It was well cooked, but had no salt and the sauce on top was a bit off. The celery puree it came with was also completely bland. My friend had the gnocchi which was much better. For dinner I had the duck breast. It was cold when it arrived. It was perfectly cooked, but also had no flavor whatsoever. There was clearly no salt or seasoning used. The cherries on top had no seasoning either and were just reconstituted with no sauce. My friend had the short ribs which were also very bland. She didn't eat any of it. Even copious amounts of salt didn't help the food."

"the seating on the upper level is all very uncomfortable. maybe it's good for short people, but there's really no legroom at all. everything *looks* nice, but after about 10 minutes, you feel a bit too close to the group sitting next to you, and your back will start to ache. the chairs are very small and those benches along the long wall are very wobbly and uncomfortable."

"We went for dinner during restaurant week and the food was really good. The ambience is definitely more of a bar/lounge feel than restaurant. The food was very good though. Overall a pleasant experience but it seems like later in the night it turns into a club like scene."
